When I stepped into Rose the first thing I noticed was the little boats of sushi floating around. Instead of the traditional conveyor system of sushi delivery, the owner has installed a "sushi river" filled with little boats that have different types of sushi. The design of Rose is a minimalist and constructivist mixture, with compliments the other elements of the restaurant including the food. My date and I arrived rather late and were the only customers eating. The owner came to our seats and talked to my girlfriend and I. I must have eaten fifteen plates of sushi from the sushi go round. My glass of beer was never empty, and my dates drink was never empty, the service was phenomenal. As for the food, all I can say is that i have lived in Japan for three years due to my work, and this is the best Japanese food I have ever eaten.
The main motivation for me to come to this site and write a review was not only the great food, but the service. My date and I arrived shortly before closing, so naturally a normal restaurant would shy away any more guests and try to shoo us out after we finished our meal. A group of my girlfriend's friends arrived, and we started having a few drinks. Rose remained open serving drinks after their closing time! Naturally the kitchen staff left at their normal time, but the owner and a waiter staid entertaining guests and serving drinks well into the early morning. One of the girls remarked that she was hungry, and the owner and waiter went into the back and fixed her two plates of sushi even though the kitchen was closed, at happy hour prices! I have only been in Manila for a few weeks, and I did not know the owner before last night (or many people here for that matter ha) But, I have to say, Rose is my new favorite restaurant, in my new favorite city.
