Last June 23, we watched Varekai of Cirque de Soleil at Rizal Park. There was a typhoon and the streets were flooded. But, we decided to go and watch the show because the tickets were so expensive.
After the show, the streets were still flooded and traffic was bad. Since ManilaHotel was a few meters from the show venue, we decided to have a light meal in the hotel while waiting for the traffic and flood to subside.
We went to Cafe Ilang-Ilang but it was under renovation. We were directed to the lobby area where we can order light meals. I ordered chicken sandwich and the others ordered bibingka (rice cake). After a few minutes, the waitress came back and informed us that it will take, at least, an hour to serve our order. We asked why. She said that there is a problem in the kitchen. We asked: How many kitchens does Manila Hotel have? Is there only one kitchen? She can't explain what the problem was. She said she came back to warn us that it can take more than an hour to serve our orders.
Manila Hotel is a five-star hotel which was called the Grand Dame of Manila but now has gone to the dogs. Service has really gone bad. One hour for a chicken sandwich. I can prepare my own chicken sandwich with all the trimmings in 5 minutes. Simply unacceptable.
