“A short stay in Manila during a convention”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

My Fiancee and I were booked into the Manila Pavilion for a few nights whilst she attended a convention also being held in Manila. The hotel is quite easy to get to, being close to Manila Bay and therefore Roxas Boulevard (one of the main roads running north - south in Manila) and is in an area which is replete with nightlife.
We arrived at the front entrance and were guided down into the underground parking, which was most useful as there is no alternative facility available locally that we could find.
Upon arriving in the foyer, we were very impressed with the wide open space and the efficiency of all of the staff, both at the front desk and the portering staff. The elevators were quick and took us to our floor, which is where the hotel started to show it's age. Whilst the lower public areas seem to have benefited from a face lift and some TLC the guest floors have been left to suffer a little, the carpets and paintwork seem a little worn.
Our room, whilst large with a over sized window, was also showing it's age, the room smelled a little musty and the tiles and fittings in the bathroom were definitely from an earlier time. The A/C however was efficient as was the water pressure for the showers.
Breakfast was a little manic, with a large number of people crammed into a relatively small space, however the staff here did their best to keep on top of everything.
The pool area is rather pleasant, being outside a good place to top up the tan, however the noise from the street below may prevent total relaxation.
We stopped off at the bar area adjacent to the foyer, and this is the only major criticism that I have for the hotel, the seating area is pleasant, but the TVs need to be upgraded to significantly larger and better quality items and the price of the drinks needs to be reviewed as one can walk a few blocks or take a short taxi ride and have a much better experience an awful lot cheaper, the venue does not justify the over double price for a simple beer.

I understand that the hotel is undergoing a refurbishment process and I had a refurbished room for 5 nights. The refurbished room I had was well appointed. Plush comfortable super king sized bed and 6 feathered pillows was the highlight for me. Colour scheme was fresh with turquoise hues on cushions and chairs. Air conditioning was working superbly. Large glass windows allowed a generous amount of natural lighting in the day time. Breakfast was buffet styled but can be improved in terms of quality. Location was ideal for me as it was a walking distance to Robinsons.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room.

By all means avoid this hotel!!! While it boasts a beautiful lobbt, once you get in the room you are greeted by bad smell, old and rusty bathroom, cracked and peeling walls, dirty carpet, grey curtain and towels, the dirt of the previous guest still everywhere. The mirror, the furniture, all is incredibly dirty. Internet is not working in my room, cigarette smoke comes in from somewhere, just ridiculous. And you get all that for over 100$/night, tax included. While smiling, the reception desk people are completely unhelpful.

Room Tip: Supposedly there are some renovated rooms at the upper levels but good luck in getting those ones.

During its glorious days, the Manila Waterfront Hotel & Casino was one of the hotels that people talked about.

Now, they are still talked about but from my point of view it is not going be a good review.

The pictures of their rooms posted in their website are far fetched from reality. It almost looked like one of those horror movie scenes and stale stench of dirty carpets linger in the air. The carpets along the hallways were definitely filthy. Even the room has this gore eerie feeling. Carpets with stains all over, curtains with holes, sinks stained with rust, sockets showing their internal wirings, water coming out from the faucet were rusty are just the tip of what I can describe. I didn't have a good night’s rest because I didn’t feel comfortable. And for the price they are charging, it is not worth it. I rather stay in some cheap motel than spend another night in the hotel.

Although they mentioned that their old rooms are being renovated and we haven’t seen them, I think I am already traumatized enough.

I hope they do improve their image because from what my mom told me, it “was” a good hotel.. During those days it was..

Room Tip: They "said" that they are having the old rooms renovated, if so, try to ask for the newly...

Rooms: about average sized and minimally decorated. Mediocre views of the surrounding buildings or the poolside. The beds were comfortable enough but could still be better, and the air-conditioning was still ok. However, there is a lot of room for improvement. While I can accept and, in fact, prefer simplicity, the fact that the rooms still use old CRT TVs is a bit disappointing. Now, if they worked perfectly, this wouldn't have been an issue, but they were so old, that operating them required a bit of getting used to. The picture quality could also have been better. Another BIG downer was the quality of the water. When I tried the water in the bathroom, first it started sputtering, then it started spouting dirty water! It wasn't just the colour, which was bad enough, but the water came with quite an amount of grit. Lastly, the room had a paint-like smell which was quite a turn-off.

The rest of the hotel, meaning public areas, like the lobby and the restaurants, seem to be better maintained though.

Food and Beverage: The breakfast buffet, taken in Seasons, was little better. Although there wasn't anything that put us off the food. A rate of Php1000 per person didn't seem to be value for money. There were quite a bit of choices but there were some options that would've been there at other hotels for the same or even lower rate. There were no cereals (not that I wanted any), and no cheese board. The coffee came from a machine, albeit not too bad, but brewed coffee would've still been preferable. The staff were polite enough but could use a bit more training. The wait staff took used plates quickly enough, but refills for water took longer than necessary and required you to ask for them. Lastly, the chef I encountered at the egg station, although nice enough to greet me good morning, probably hasn't even finished her culinary classes yet. I mean, how could a chef who works at the breakfast station NOT KNOW how to poach an egg?? Head-scratcher there.
We only bought one cake from the Patisserie and it wasn't bad. They sell pastries at a discounted rate before closing but I forgot the details.

Overall: Still not too bad, but the hotel could definitely use a make-over. If they don't address the issues that they have, then there are lots of hotels in the Manila area that could easily take their business. Hope the hotel can return to its former 'grandeur'.

Room Tip: If you want a room with a view, the pool side of the hotel is your best bet. Having said that howeve...

clean, location is accessible to the airport, walking distance to shopping & dining, staff courteous, & helpful. The restroom in the casino is awful, the quest should be train to line up one by one instead of lining up per toilet

This hotel is a mess. Literally. A starter list of the problems include: bad smells coming out of the carpets and air conditioner, mold on the walls and carpet in the room, holes in the ceiling and walls with all sorts of stains and funk growing around them, minimal hot water, tubs that were once white are now brown, bathroom countertops that look like they have never been cleaned, a shower door that does not close, gross carpet with massive stains everywhere, random holes oin the walls, the list goes on and on. I would not recommend that you stay here and encourage you to not be fooled by the look in the lobby, things change dramatically once you take the elevator to a residential floor.

Room Tip: To get a good room, go to a different hotel.
