“Comfortable enough”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2013

Meh..
Checked in at 3.30 AM to a fan room (2nd floor) that was about 700/night (right behind the reception counter) and had a common bathroom. My room was clean enough but the walls were too thin that the slightest noise I make, People outside can hear. I did not feel secure...at all. There were 2 shower rooms, one w/ window& light and one w/o window&light (same with toilet). I used the shower room with the light, of course, but then the window, covered by a folded sheet of see-through curtain, was not securely covered, and since the buildings were so close to each other, there was a risk of being seen by a peeping tom. Outside sink was dirty and leaky.
Ended up transferring to a dorm room, because of a tight budget at that time, and found out the bathroom conditions less favorable. 4 bunk beds, living with staff..not so ideal but it was an air-conditioned room..so.. "me gusta"

Staff were great though. Had a lot of free coffee, smoking whenever i wanted in the living room/dining area.

I might get a better room next time...if im not on a tight budget. who knows

I stayed at the Chillout Guesthouse for a total of 3 nights (with my sister, 8-year-old niece, 9-year-old nephew, and uncle) and I can confidently say that we've had a comfortable time staying in the airconditioned rooms. Room 4, though located on the street side, is quite comfortable and can easily fit 3 people. It's very clean (though it would be great if they can provide two towels instead of one although I think you can ask for extra towels). The bathroom is not as big but clean (with only a curtain serving as door). Overall, it's good value for money. The other room, Room 5, is located on the quieter side of the inn and is very spacious (can easily fit 4 or 5 if with kids). I like the fact that the rooms smell good and the linens are clean, pillows as well. Water pressure is great and clean bathrooms as well (bring your own toiletries as there's only tissue available for free). The staff are friendly and accommodating; service is good too. Wifi is free (and good connection too) and there's cable (although I miss news channels like CNN and BBC). There is a mini-pantry and dining area downstairs. You can have your meals there, and there's hot water. Water and beverages are available for sale. The guesthouse is located conveniently close to the corner of Remedios Circle and Remedios street so no problem finding your way. It's a 5 to 10-minute walk to Robinsons Place Manila mall, and there's a 7-11 and Mini-Stop close by. Kudos to the staff and I hope you will be able to maintain the cleanliness and good service. Overall, it was a very good stay for us and I will highly recommend this to all my friends and contacts. - Lynette

Room Tip: Ask for rooms located away from the Remedios St. if you want a more quiet stay.

This Chill-out guest house is in a very good location. Good restaurants near by from local Philippine food to Korean or Japanese among others, also walking distance to Manila bay and other places of interest, easy to take a taxi to take you anywhere..

The room we stayed in was clean, bed sheets too, cable t.v., free wi-f, .A/C, bathroom with hot water. Staff are very friendly.

There is a common room with the basics, tv, a table with chairs, a fan, a fridge etc.. It was nice to see that other guests made use of this space.

Many children in the streets playing at the round about with their families, you might have a kid or two asking you for money but if you do not give they will leave you alone.

We were so happy to get there!
IMPORTANT: The adress of the Chill Out Guesthouse mentioned in the latest Lonely Planet is INCORRECT. Chill Out moved to Remedios Street after their old guesthouse burned down in april 2012!!

We stayed their 3 different times:
They welcomed us with open arms, always explained us how to get which jeepney across town, did the best laundry we ever had in 5 months for a good price (they even sewed some off our clothes that were teared!!)

The fan room is well priced compared to others!

When we arrived there the second time, we came back exhausted from a nightbus from Banaue, and they offered us an 'interim' room until check in, so we could rest and sleep.

The girl who runs the place for the french owners is a real treasure!

We arrived late at night with a dorm booking. The dorm was stuffy and didn't look clean. Beds were ruffled. There were lockers.

For this reason, the next night we changed to a double room which was nice.

The common room is nothing special but there's tables, chairs, sofa, TV, mall kitchen and they have beer fridge so you can buy beer.

Big nightclub down the road so it can be noisy.

The staff was helpful enough. Even let me print my ticket on their printer.

Taxi got us there easily, the street is pretty main it seems. I have nothing in Manila to compare the area to but I cannot say we felt safe. Lots of kids begging in the street, trying to get their digits into your pockets. Security guards with shot guns. But we were in Manila a very short time so maybe it was that just-arrived stage fright?

Fine for a short stay in Manila before heading where you really want to be - the islands!

Room Tip: Dorm was unclean, double was ok.

a maybe 10-15min walk from Intramuros and near all commodities (huge mall 5-10min away).
the staff (French) is very helpful and will make you feel welcome. rooms are basic but clean, soundproof and big, they have a fridge in the lobby and you can have beers with the other travelers in a friendly atmosphere. a cozy and fresh place in Manila's jungle. Location is kinda hard to find though.
