“Hotel great but location too noisy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2009

The hotel staff and cleanliness were fabulous. We were always met with friendly faces. We paid a reasonable fee for our room and this location in general was a good one while staying in Manila. We initially had a room on the "noisy" kareoke side and had a very difficult time sleeping. We asked to be switched to the quiet side and had a small struggle with one receptionist who placed us just a few rooms down. After a little assertion, she moved us to the "non-kareoke" side. Unfortunately, the glass in the windows are so thin that you can still hear every car that goes by during the night and every horn that beeps. It was impossible for me to get a good night's sleep. If it weren't for this noise, then I would love to recommend this hotel. If you are a hard sleeper or can sleep with earplugs, go for it! If not, beware!

Im Balikbayan Filipina from UK working as Account Assistant. I enjoyed stayed here for my 1st 2 nights with my family. It was very lovely, clean and comfortable twin bedroom and especially friendly staff.

But when I came back again on the 10th of April at this hotel from my family and relatives visits in Zamboanga City. I was very tired and exhausted that time when I arrived at 10:45AM. The reception knows I booked advance paid on this hotel for 4 nights with my 1 or 2 of my family. But the reception said I need to wait at 12Lunch for check-in policy. So we waited. After 3 minutes there was 2Ladies foreigner came in asking if there is any available for twin bed, the reception said there is. Then they proceed to check in after 5 minutes. I cant believe it, I was very shock and disgraceful coz of unfairly check-in. We were very tired and hungry that time and we just sacrifice to waited at the lobby with load of things, then their own Filipino kind doesnt welcome fairly. Im very dissappointed, I dont think I can refer this to my friends here at UK even in the Philippines.

Casa Bocobo is a good choice for mid-range travellers. However, if you want to enjoy a good nights' sleep you must request a room overlooking Jorge Bocobo street. As per the last review, there is a blaring karaoke bar on the other side of the hotel which will keep you awake until the wee hours of the morning. We spent one night in one of these rooms and not even ear plugs could block out the noise. Thankfully, we were able to move across the hall and spent the next 2 nights in a karaoke-free world.

The rooms are spotless and the staff ever so attentive. Possibly the best pillows in the Philippines. The location is great and the price is good for Manilla. If you plan to spend at least 3 nights ask about any stay/pay deals. We received 3 nights for the price of 2 which was around PHP5000 total. Otherwise, book through asiatravel.com as the nightly rate is lower than rack rates.

The breakfast is pretty average but it's included in the price. It's no 4 Star but Casa Bocobo is a sure winner if they ever invest in double glazing!

good day to all!
i am josie from mindanao,, i check in last march 31- april 04 in this hotel. it was nice. the place was very well clean.. most of the staff are nice and friendly. i enjoyed my stay this hotel, but there is something missing in their rooms that most of the customer would want to have in their rooms,
me,, in my room, i was lookin for a mini refrigerator and a bath tub,,, but seems,,, they dont have one. but anyway,, in over all,, i enjoyed my stay here.

i am going back to manila this 27th of april, hope that what is missing in the room should be fulfilled. what i mean is refrigerator and a bath tub.
and i am also planning to stay again in this hotel,, if they will have it.

This hotel is the classic example of a 3.5 star hotel that I would like to rate as 'seven out of 10' rather than 'four out of five.'

It opened in August 2008. I obtained a room rate of about P1900 via www.asiatravel.com. slightly cheaper than the P2000 rate charged to walk-ins. There was a 'pay for two nights, stay for three' promotion, based on P2200 a night so I was effectively overcharged by using the Internet site as the cost for two nights should be P4400 not be P5700.

It is conveniently located just off United Nations Avenue in the Ermita tourist area.

Check-in at 0500 after a red-eye flight was swift, but the staff interuppted my sleep at 0700 to give me the breakfast vouchers. The latter even asked for what time I would like the limited breakfast, a request similar to that practised by Australian motels.

The standard rooms are not large, with two single beds pushed together, a desk, wardrobe, good lighting (a bedside incandescent lamp together with fluorescent lighting overhead) and a wardrobe.

The bathrooms are quite small, but the shower is very modern. The hot water was not Australian-style 'hot', but was halfway between 'hot' and 'tepid.'

Casa Bocobo's breakfast is poor. The pancakes came with a single serve of NZ Anchor butter and a small jug of maple syrup. The waiter insisted that only tea or coffee was available 'free' (included in the tariff) but brought me some mango juice after I requested it.

The bed was very comfortable.

One terminal in the lobby provides a very fast Internet conection for P50 per hour - it is noticeably faster than at most Filipino Internet cafes, the latter typically charging around P30 per hour.

However travellers should try to get a room on the Jorge Bocobo street side, as on the other side, there is blaring Filipino kareoke from a second floor premises nearby that goes until 0500 or 0600: it is very loud although the in-room airconditioing blocks it somewhat.

The other 'red flag' is a nearby rooster that crowed almost all night (and early in the morning). This may be amusing once (and hardly noticeable to Filipinos if they are used to it) but for those Westerners like me whose local governments ban chooks, it is very annoying and not conducive to a good night's sleep.

The only other problem is a design flaw in that the doors slam very loudly: steel on steel may be the reason.

Nonetheless this is a good value hotel close to the wonderful Robinsons Place Mall, Manila Ocean Park aquarium and the historic walled city of Intramuros.
