“STAY THERE FOR A SHORT PERIOD ONLY, FOR EXAMPLE IF IN TRANSIT TO LA DIGUE.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 weeks ago

My wife, our 9 years old kid and I spent 1 night in Le Relax Hotel and Restaurant on Mahe Island, before to continue with a 9 nights stay in Le Relax Beach House in La Digue. We arrived by a very small taxi which we ordered via the hotel (it took 3 e-mails to get a confirmation from Le Relax for our transfer request airport-hotel...). Upon arrival, we got the room number 1, which is located just next to the reception, so it can be noisy when people are at the reception or when the phone is ringing, as it seems local staffs are not moving too fast to reply...
We stayed there from 31.03.2015-01.04.2015. We had only 1 day to spend there but were able to use the swimming pool, which was actually very hot and nice to be inside. We also went to the beach located 3-4 minutes by foot from the hotel, as the hotel is located on a higher position than the road passing just below it. The beach was actually very nice and we really enjoyed our time swimming and walking around beach area, so for a short time, it is possible to relax and to enjoy the place. In the evening, we ate at the restaurant, just next to the pool, which was ok. Staff were not in a hurry to work, but this we are used to in Seychelles, no stress, no speed up and not much hurry please... Please be aware also that you will meet/see within the hotel area a lot of animals there, as cats, snails, lizard, moskitos, fly, cockroach, etc.

So to resume our stay, I will say that :

Positive points :
--------------------
1) View from the balcony of room number 1 was very good.
2) Swimming pool was hot and clean.
3) The beach is very close to the hotel and can be reached by 3-4 minutes walk.
4) Staff friendly.
5) Quiet as not too much rooms.
6) Climatisation.
7) Large choice on the menu card of the restaurant.

Points to be improved :
-----------------------------
1) The water coming out from the shower had almost no pressure...
2) No privacy inside room number 1 if your curtains are opened, everybody can see you when passing in front of your room.
3) Bathroom is old style, with curtain for shower, really limit... Must be renovated !
4) Ventilator was very noisy inside the room number 1.
5) Transfer by car by a very small car, because cheaper they said...
6) The room number 1 was very simple, not really being a Deluxe one...
7) To get darkness, only curtains are available inside the room number 1.
8) Hot and cold water are on 2 separated water cock in bathroom !!!

Well, that's it. We will probably not come back to this hotel, but to spend 1-2 nights at correct rate, I think it can be ok, but don't expect too much...

I will soon add some photos to my review so that you can see what I'm talking about.

Room Tip: Take room number 1 if you don't want to walk too much, it's the closest one to swimming poo...

The hotel is at a nice part of Anse Royal, spacious rooms, good breakfast; nice indian food. As on business there, the late openig of the breakfast (7.30h), the high price for internet (9US$ / hour and you have to buy the card in advance) and the lack of the "early morning tea" for which the kettle and cups were there but no tea bags (and I had to ask every night to have them sent to the room) was a bit disappointing. 10 minutes down the road you find the Kaz Kreol, which has WIFI...

Mahe island is the heavenly, bustling hub of the Seychelles archipelago and teaming with accommodation choices - Le Relax is one to be avoided at all costs.

While the location is fantastic - perched on the hillside with spectacular views of the bay, a 15 min drive to the airport, a short walk from the small village of Anse Royale with it's shops, bank, restaurants and hospital the hotel itself is extremely disappointing.

Issues we encountered were as follows:

- our mattress smelled of stale urine
- no hot water in the mornings
- no money in the float for foreign exchange (also at a high rate I noticed should there have been)
- wifi was down for two days and when it was available it was not free
- hotel closes up early before 11pm
- front desk opens late making early morning check-out impossible, had to leave for the airport without this process in place and now we have the problem of remote account reconciliation
- staff were unable to book taxi's for us,which subsequently we easily managed ourselves with the help of a friendly restaurant manager down the road
- hotel restaurant closes very early at 9:30 and food is average at best
- unfriendly and unhelpful staff in general

With MANY accommodation options to choose from there is no reason to ruin your stay on the island at Le Relax, Anse Royale, Hotel & Restaurant.

We stayed at Le Relax Hotel in July 2014. We had such a great holiday that we are going back again in July this year. The staff are friendly and very accommodating. The hotel is situated right across the road from the beach and close to a little town to get shopping. We can definitely recommend this hotel. thanks maxine biasotto

Room Tip: Upstairs facing the sea

Best place to stay if you can't stay without Indian food or even like Indian food. Not a very big place otherwise, not as big as it is seen on the website, specially not the swimming pool. We were there for a week but couldn't use it even for a day, dirty or under repair etc. excuses were given. However, the staff is very friendly and smiling, always ready to help. Their car hires are also good All in all good for family stay.

Room Tip: Garden side rooms are good.

We stay for 12 nights in this Hotel. The service was good. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
We had a room with a beautiful oceanview. Our room was spacy and clean. The cooking was delicious. The location of this Hotel is quiet and for relaxing. The Hotel has Rental Cars and enough place to park with the car. Beach is close to the Hotel about 5 minutes to walk. Beach and Ocean is there calm with nice Rocks and good for snorkeling. We enjoy the stay at the Hotel very much. Thank you very much for the pleasant stay.

Alexander & Heidrun from Germany

Room Tip: Oceanview Rooms are for us the best choice, because of the view.

The location is perfect with proper height on the hill and breathtaking view of the pristine waters.
Food is good and the ambience nicely done.
The best part I like is when employees speak highly about the owner, it reflects their satisfaction and content feel.
However in my case I could relate better because I myself am into hospitality and construction, just as the owner.

The food was authentic Indian with menu varying from samosa( an Indian snack with potato filling) to all main course items.
Overall a must try if you are staying at Mahe.
