“Paradise on our own island!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2012 via mobile

Having never been on this type of holiday before, we were a bit unsure as to what to expect (we had never done package holidays). I had read all the reviews on here which were quite mixed so here is as unbiased review as possible.
Firstly, the check in when we arrived on the island was very smooth and quick and we were soon in our air- conditioned room. Lots has been said on here about the rooms but we were quite happy with ours. The air-con was fab and the bed huge and very comfortable. Just a bit of advice, there are only two plug sockets in the room which have bedside lights plugged in. If, like me, you have devices that will need charging, take a plug-board with you! I had emailed well in advance and asked for a room on the hotter side of the island and that is what we got. If you are going there, you may have read about the difference between the two sides, but I doubt they have fully explained it! Considering the island is about 30 yards wide, the difference between the two sides is inexplicable! The side you arrive on (the same side as the pool and bars) is windy. The sea has a lot of sea grass washing up on the beach and there can be some rubbish. The sea can also be choppy as it can be windy. The other side is fabulous - calm clear water, fabulous beach but very hot as there is very little wind.
We spent two weeks on the beach every day. We went on the free snorkelling trips twice which were great, but to be honest we enjoyed snorkelling around the inlet pipe which was on our side of the island just as much. The fish were unbelievable!
We also went on the sunset dolphin cruise, and had about 40 dolphins around our boat for an hour!
The food was delicious with a huge choice every meal. There was no question of us sharing a table as the island was only a third full, but more of that later.
Having read reviews, we were quite sceptical about meeting other people and making friends (never been on a holiday like this before!). However,we met some lovely people and had a number of great nights. I'm sure we will keep in touch now we are home.
Being on the island is like being in a wildlife film! Crabs, birds, flying bats etc! Wonderful.
So, why only 4 stars in my rating? Firstly, the island was only a third full. This was ok in some ways but it meant - particularly at the start of the holiday, the evenings were very quiet and we went to bed quite early.
Secondly, although I knew there were no televisions in the room, I did miss not having one as there was quite a bit of down time in the rooms.
Thirdly, and I guess the bit that annoyed us the most, was the waiter situation. When we arrived I asked our waiter if he was looking after us for our whole holiday, and he said he was. Following suggestions on here I tipped him well at that first meal ($10). About three nights later he got another $2, and then he went missing for a day and a half. When he came back he said he has had to get a tooth sorted out on Male. Fair enough, and we felt quite sorry for him. He got a couple of further tips and then, 5 days before we left, we went on the trip to Male. We noticed that our waiter was on the boat - and that was the last we saw of him! It turns out he had 10 days holiday. This meant that we had various waiters after that, and on our last night, when others got tables decorated with flowers, we got nothing!

Moaning apart, however, it was a fanatic holiday. You know you are not going to five star luxury so don't expect it,and if you don't want to see islands with buildings on, don't look in that direction!!!

we visited club faru in july for two weeks(12th-26th)was met at male airport by gerard our rep who was fantastic.check in very quickly and was taken to our rooms on the quieter side of the island which was very hot so be warned.the food is brill plenty to suit the most pickiest of eaters the choice foe all meal times was amazing and well presented.whilst we were there we met some really fab people(nicky/jay and matt /lesann)the boat trips(dolphins)is well worth the money,we cant comment on the others as we did not bother but many people said they had mixed feelings.there are no real negatives about this island we wont comment about the rooms as its all been said before.its a pity first choice are not doing it after october for reasons we dont know but if your lucky enough to go between now and october you will definetly enjoy it.everybody on the club faru staff could not do enough for everyone with or without a tip.unfortunatly there is a lot of chinese and malaysians and keep themselvels to themselves during the day but wait till meal times they are like sharks in a feeding frenzy.its an experience to watch and funny but make sure you stand your ground with them as they will walk all over you.me personaly would like to say a big thank you to the dive team who put me through my paces with the result of passing my PADI open water you know who you are(julien/mirage) and also the old chap on the boat who found my singing in the open sea rather amusing.overall we had a great time what you see is what you get but is fabulous.make sure you take plenty of high factor sun creams as the onsite shop is over priced

Room Tip: try to stay on the quieter side of the island as its less windy and no noise from anyone except the...

Just got back after spending a week in July. Review as follows:

Accomodation - Room 109 - large, clean, great view, nearest one to the Thundi bar. No problems
Food - can't fault it, great choice and selection, fresh and appealing on the eye
Service - outstanding. Our waiter Zameel was efficient, polite and friendly
First Choice rep - Gerard - can't be faulted, will go out of his way to help (first hand experience of this) very polite and friendly. First Choice if you read this please look after him he is a credit to your organisation
Environment - excellent, lovely pool, great beaches. Watch out for the Fruit Bats (like small dogs with wings!)
Overall - for the price paid this was by far the best holiday I have ever had - thank you Club Faru. we will be back

Finally big thank you to our restaurant partners Mike and Rhoda (hopefully spelt that correctly!) who added that final touch to our holiday. Missing you and looking forward to seeing you again.

Room Tip: Rooms on East side of island hotter climate. West side more of a breeze. Club Faru will accomodate y...

As long as you are not looking for luxury Club Faru is a very relaxing resort, which is small enough to get to know the staff and they genuinely take an interest in their guest, food fine, accom, not bad but great views. The place to go just to sit down and relax

We came here on our honeymoon in July 2012. We were nervous as we wanted an amazing experience and had seen some bad reviews of Club Faru. Luckily someone we knew had visited and so we went and we were so glad we listened to them.

Basically, it is a 3* resort, so dont expect 5* rooms. they are very spacious and have good air con. They are cleaned daily and fresh towels for both the pool/snorkeling and showering as needed. The paintwork is dodgy, but there is a safe and everything works well. It looks shabby, but who wants to go to the Maldives and spend all their time in their rooms??

The food is AMAZING. Over 2 weeks we didnt have 1 bad meal. Every day was different and a huge choice including veggie options, gluten free etc etc. Pancakes or waffles every morning with fresh fruit and treacle was my breakfast of choice, although the fish curry was there every day too! Freshly cooked omlettes, cheeses, pastries, chicken sausages, beef bacon (worth a try) eggs, toast.... And that was just breakfast. In between meals there are also 'snacks' available of tuna or cheese and tomato sarnies and tea. You will not go hungry! The drinks as part of all inclusive were standard - Vodka, Gin, Rum etc, wine and beer. Other drinks available, but for a small price. Fruit juice and water free all day which is really important in that heat. Lots of resorts will charge you for water, but they encourage you to take a bottle here for free which is good.

If you are going you have to snorkel in my opinion. There isnt a reef as such, although some snorkeling off the island is good. 2 free daily boat trips were awesome, but make sure you put your name down the day before or they may not run if noone has booked. These go to different places depending on the weather/tides and we saw some amazing wildlife here including dolphins, stingray, sharks, turtles and soooo many fish!! The paid for trips are good, although some better than others. Worth going on the dolphin sunset cruise for sure - stunning. Also Fish Point was the best snorkeling we went on by far - we saw loads of turtles, sharks, seahorses and an octopus which was incredible! Coral point wasnt great, but we got caught in a storm so it may be unfair, and we didn't see manta on the manta trip, but they told us before we went it was a 50/50 chance and they took us to see shark point to make up for it which was good. The turtle nursery was closed when we went, but given time we would have gone there too.

The guys in the watersports centre were amazing - patient and helped us to see everything we wanted to. There are floats available if you need them on all trips and you can hire everything out there. An idea of cost for this - it was $40 to hire 2 sets of flippers only for 2 weeks. Not bad, but probably worth buying before you go.

I cant speak highly enough about the staff - they are brilliant. So friendly at every turn. Akram and Hannan the pool guys were stars and Hassan our waiter was quality. And Gerrard our rep was very helpful and we couldnt ask for anyone better.

Any bad things? Well, to be very picky, it is close to Male, so about 4 planes go over a day. Didnt bother us in the slightest mind you. There is some construction on the next island over, but we didn't find it bad at all (its still a distance away). Some people that had been to other islands found it not what they expected of the maldives as it wasnt totally desserted. We hadnt been before, but it was no problems for us as there were plenty of spots you could find around the island where you could be alone if you wanted to, and the next island with construction was only visable from 1 side of the island so hardly a problem. We didnt hear anything from it either, so hardly a deal breaker for us.

For the money it cost we had the best value we could hope for. Amazing staff, clean rooms, excellent food, and unbelievable wildlife on the snorkel trips. If you dont have money to spend £4000 each on a luxury water villa in the maldives but love food and snorkeling, dont hesitate to book here. You will not regret it as it is just amazing. Just dont expect 5* rooms as you will be disappointed. Expect a 3* resort and you will be very pleasantly surprised. I think the bad reviews are because people have forgotten that it is 3* because elements of it really are 5*.

Take dollars as they do expect tipping which we were unprepared for!

my partner and I stayed at club faru for 2 weeks (we got back 2 days ago) we were welcomed by a really nice barman who gave us a drink and a damp flannel (for the shock of the heat!) as soon as we got off the boat. all baggage was taken to our rooms. we then had a brief meeting with the First Choice rep (Gerard) who is absolutely lovely and will do anything to help you! really really nice guy! the rooms are basic and the beds are a bit on the hard side but we slept well for the entire holiday so they can't be that bad. we had an upstairs room with a balcony overlooking the diving jetty which was beautiful to look at first thing in the morning. Breakfast is served 7.30-9.30 the chef's made fresh pancakes, fresh waffles, (no pork at all due to religion) but still a very wide variety of fruits, cereals eggs etc. Everyone is allocated the same seat throughout the holiday unless you ask to be seated alone. we were on the same table as a lovely Lithuanian couple who we are still in contact with, it's a great idea to make everyone socialise. lunch is 12.30-2.30 again LOTS of choice always something different. It is not England so don't expect anything to taste like home. There's always something for everyone though, lot's of fish, pasta, rice, vegetables, fresh salads. Tea time is 7.30 - 9.30 (basically the same as lunch) We had the same waiter, Nishaan, who was really lovely and treated us very well. there are 2 bars on the island, both really nice, the Thundi bar has Karaoke nights, live music and disco nights , the all inclusive drinks are: the local beer, vodka, gin, rum, whisky, and all juices/coke lemonade etc. anything like Dissaronno...malibu are not included. Twice a day they offer free snorkelling trips to different places you can rent flippers and snorkels from the watersports centre but we took our own. ALI is BRILLIANT we loved him (watersports manager) like all the staff he will help anyway he can, he also has a parrot flying around but it'll bite! The island itself is really small, you can walk around it in 10 minutes but it's so beautiful. Crabs, hermits, fruit bats all over the island as well as baby sharks all kinds of fish, turtles, rays. Male the capital is a free trip, completely different to Club Faru. busy, noisy and you're lucky to cross the road without getting knocked down by a moped! but definitely worth a visit. Dolphin trips are offered at sunset for $40 per person which was amazing. I could go on and on (more than I already have) but I cannot stress enough how brilliant this place is. We were also told that Club Faru is the only island in the Maldives that is an All Inclusive Island. everyone is all inc. so no itchy wristbands or anything. It is not luxury, don't expect luxury! but the service cannot be faulted and everyone we met was very happy! take bug spray! we got eaten by sandflies in the second week but no mosquito bites :) we would go back tomorrow! Thank you to everyone who made our stay perfect!

Room Tip: we stayed in a block of 8 rooms, room 38. we had the side of the island with the 'rough' sea...

It's a 3 Star resort. The rooms are basic, yes, but the views are amazing and the fact you can walk 5 metres to the ocean from your door step is wonderful. I'm sure if you've experienced 5star Maldives then yeah, this place may be somewhat of a contrast but for us, a young couple just married we LOVED it! Why did we love it? Here goes:

- the cocktails are not included but they are not that expensive, your average cocktail price. But they do non alcoholic ones such as the Monkey banana one which was yummy. Nothing nicer than sat on a sun longer sipping your Monkey Doo drink in the sun!

- the food was VERY varied. Something different every night. We stayed for two weeks and we tried something new every day. The Maldivian fish curry was funny, it's always there haha! Try it!

- the dive centre. Oh this guys are amazing. I was new at scuba diving and I did my first open water dive in the Maldives!!! Saw a black tip shark!!! My other half saw a manta ray, huge excitement! These guys are patient, kind and fabulous.

- the rooms. Well, they are basic but I have to say the air con was amaaaaazing! I've stayed in places where it's just too hot to sleep. Not the case here. It isn't bloody noisy either which usually grinds me about air con but this was super! The shower can be a bit cold but that's a blessing when you're sweating!

- The Health Spa. I miss these ladies so so much. The health spa is right in the middle of the island in little huts. There's a jacuzzi and a booklet of amazing treatments. I'm a but funny about people touching and seeing me etc but what an amazing experience it was! Aww I miss it so much :( we booked for $300 5 hours of treatment. Had a facial on my last day, smooth as a baby's bottom haha! Yeah, amazing!

- the gift shop was alright, some cheap bits but generally okay.

- water sports we great. Jet Ski was expensive but worth it!

-the staff were lovely! There was a family staying on the island who seem to have been coming to the island for a number of years and sometimes we felt they gained a lot of attention and we would be left queuing a long time because this family were being dealt with. We understood as they're children were deaf and needed a lot more care but our patience ran thin when we had to wait at the water sports centre for 15 minutes before we were seen to as these children were being played with etc... But hey we weren't going any where :-)

- free trip to Male. Was interesting to see the Island but watch out for the shop owners! They we so annoying! The tour guide seemed to take us to the shops where he knew the owners. They are very pushy and if you don't buy anything they get stroppy!

So yes. Go go go! It's stunning, so wonderful. The snorkelling is outstanding and it's out of this world! We love you Club Faru! Your coffee is stunning (not the all inclusive one, I'm talking about the $5 one haha beautiful) One tip though Club Faru- change your snacks! I can never eat cheese and tomato or Tuna sandwiches again hahahaha! Who cares, it was great!

Love you!
