“FULL MOON RESORT - THE PERFECT HONYMOON”

I have just had the most amazing trip to the Full Moon Resort in the Maldives. I travelled there on August the 9th for my honeymoon a present from my sister and it was a piece of paradise. We stayed in a water bungalow and it was the most magical place ever and every penny well spent. The magic of having the ocean right outside your bedroom door is a sight everyone needs to see at least once in their life and the bath overlooking the sea is the most amazing experience. We were booked full board, which I recommend to anyone who is planning to go here. The food is 5 stars and above and I especially recommend the pastries. As you are on a island there are restaurants that are available, but from the prices on the menu it could work out to be very expensive if you are not full board.

The staff on the resort could not do more for you, they are all very friendly and are always willing to help…..especially when my husband was missing playing cricket and the catering staff asked him to join them playing cricket in there living area……what more can I say!!!

I recommend that if you are going to the Full Moon, then you should do some of the island excursions as it gives you the opportunity to see other islands. The dolphin curse, the full day island hoping and the trip to male are ones I highly recommend. A small tip if you plan to go to Male go there once and have a guide, but do most of your present shopping when you go to the full day island hopping as the things are cheaper as long as you barter with them!!!! If you don’t find anything then go the Male again cost around £12 per person, but do not take a guide. Male is so small so you will not get lost!!!!

The only thing that may disappoint you is that there is no night entertainment at the resort so it is either go to the bar/restaurant or go to your room. As much as that sounds tempting some night you really want to sit back and watch something or do something!!

The weather was wonderful even though it was suppose to be rainy season and every time I checked the weather report before leaving it was always cloudy, but I can assure you it was lovely – sunny and hot all week.

One last downfall, which had nothing to do with the Maldives or the full moon, was the flight. We went on Monarch airlines and the first disappointment was at Gatwick, where we were told that there were no seats together and as a newly married couple a 12 hour flight sitting behind your husband is not a nice experience. The staffs were very rude and informed us that Monarch believes that sitting together is sitting across an isle or behind each other!!! The other downfall with the flight is that a 12 hour flight with very basic equipments and a charge to drink or eats snakes is a little strange……. So in the long run try not to flight with them as you will be very disappointed – thankfully the actual resort made up for it all.

So overall if you are going to the Full Moon I recommend it as it is an experience of a life time.

Just got back from Full Moon...stayed there Aug 15-21...water bungalow. Arrived at Male airport and was at Full Moon counter 5pm...meet by "Shades of Maldives" representative...though i booked through Reddottours.com....turns out....red dot is just a middle man who booked through "shades of maldives". I waited at the airport until 630pm and could go to resort because Full moon wanted to wait for other passengers on other flights to arrive to maximize the speed boat. Finally got to the resort at 7pm...dark and couldn't the resort. Check in was fast....greated with drink and cold towel and was taken to my water bungalow. Rooms were nice....big bathrooms, nice size sleep area and the deck was big and private. It was everything we expected it to be. A/C didn't work too well. Bring your own amenities...i was provided with shampoo/bath gel all in one bottle and lotion....THATs IT.... Structurally, Full Moon is very good...rooms, facilities, and the island....but to tell you the truth...most resorts are structurally good.....because its in the Maldives!!! The thing i didn't like about Full Moon is the service, management style, and policies. I'm not gonna talk about excursions and food and so on cause they are already mentioned in the previous reviews. The 'guest service' department should change their name to "sorry we can't help you" department cause they aren't willing to help. The day after..my wife wanted to stay an extra 2 days so i went to the Guest Services...the answer? "Can't help you, we are full"....i called Shades of Maldives and got the extension for 475US Dollar a night. Check out is at 12 sharp....late checkout will cost you 100 US dollar from 12pm to 5 pm...and you cannot catch an earlier speed boat out to the airport cause they want you to stay on their resort and spend money. My flight was at 830 pm...i checked out at 12pm, and they put me on the 530pm speed boat....i asked for an earlier one...so i can maybe go out to male to check out the city....nope...cannot...will cost me extra 90US dollar per person to leave early. Their response? Why don't you book a spa reservation or go on an excursion. STUPID or Greedy?

Some tips....buy your water at the anchorage bar during happy hour...20% off...If you are asian...like me...don't bother tipping cause the staff think asians don't tip so they didn't give me good service intially....too bad cause i tip well if the service is good. Have one meal at casa luna. If you want to get drunk....drink wine...bottle of Bushman's Gully Shiraz for 30 USD....bar drinks are approx 10USD a glass...do the math. Lock your stuff up in the safe...i didn't really trust the room attendant. Learn to speak Maldivian cause the staff can't speak english worth a lick. Book through Shades of Maldives or other agent....NOT Red Dot Tours....Red Dot screwed up my arrival date in Sri Lanka on top of charging me more for my room in the maldives. Bring Lots of sunblock.....you don't want to pay for 30US Dollar a bottle sun block in the full moon gift shop. Bring your own Snorkel Gear. If you want true beach front rooms....The beach cottage has only 4-5 units that are truly beach front...the rest is laid out in a reversed U shaped formation. Go with the water bungalow...only 150 USD more a night.

ITs unfortunate that the Full Moon has such good infastructure but not the service, management policy and staff to complement it....the resort is listed as 4 star "delux"....i think the infrastructure is about 4 stars...very good...but could be better if they want the "deluxe" added to it.....but the management, staff and service is truly 2 1/2 to 3 star....seriously...i stayed at the Galle Face Regency Wing in Colombo...which is listed at 3 stars....can't even compare their service with Full Moon.....For these reasons i have to give Full Moon at 3 1/2 star rating at BEST. I can go to just about any island in the Maldives experience beautiful water and surrounding....

“Beautiful Resort, appalling management and staff”

Full Moon Maldives

I stayed at the Full Moon Resort for my honeymoon. On the second to last night, at approximately 4:00am, I woke to visit the bathroom when I discovered a member of hotel staff (still wearing their uniform) prowling around inside our room. He quickly fled, leaving both myself and my wife terrified and in a state of shock. We called hotel security immediately, and the guest services manager arrived 15 minutes later to assure us that the prowler had long since gone.

The following morning we complained to the hotel manager, who assured us that this had never happened before, and that he was deeply sorry. We were given a fruit basket (containing some grapes and a single banana) by way of compensation - no offer of a change of room to a more secure location. Further correspondance with the hotel now shows they have "no record of any complaint being made".

Whilst the tropical environment of this resort is quite amazing (as I'm sure all resorts in the Maldives are), the staff appeared to do as little as possible in order to ensure the hotel kept running. Combine that with the chance that staff members are breaking into hotel rooms looking for items to steal (there are no safes in the rooms), and that hotel management seem to ignore any complaints made, I simply cannot recommend the Full Mooon.Resort.

“Great beaches, terrific rooms but WALK WITH YOUR BANK!”

Full Moon Maldives

Jun 29, 2008

We (family with 2 young kids) spent a few days in June 2008 at this resort. We stayed at a beachfront deluxe room. Our first impression of the room was that it was immaculately designed and maintained. A lot of effort has clearly gone into maintaining the property and completing the finishing of the room and bathroom (which was equally well done). The best part of the resort was the beach itself, which had truly white sandy beaches (not rocky as some others - one could walk into the ocean for quite a distance without any problem because of the calmness). Our young son (almost 3 years) loved the beach.

There was a well appointed bar (small) situated on the far side of the island on the beach near many of the rooms that made it very convenient and they were serving tourists right on the beach! That way, we did not have to walk to the main bar all the time.

Particular mention should be made of the fish feeding at 6.00 p.m. daily, right outside the main bar. We saw one of the employees hand feeding sting rays, eels and baby sharks, among others.

Restaurants - there are 4 in total (main offering buffet; a thai restaurant; a cafe and a sea-food restaurant). Here is the negative part - all food (except breakfast) is extra and is UNUSUALLY EXCESSIVELY PRICED! Full moon is located just 10 minutes from Male and so, as the resort has to lug all materials only a very short distance, unlike other resorts that are much farther away. It would seem that the resort has truly adopted the practice of "whatever we charge, tourists will pay" motto!

The excessively high prices was reflected in all other items including bottled water, drinks etc. No free water of any sort is provided at any restaurant. All bills automatically add a 10% service charge and had an optio for a tip. When we enquired about the reason for a tip, despite having a service charge, we were informed by one of the waiters that the service charge was actualy consumed by the management and hence, the tip was extra. We felt that such excessive charges were unnecessary. There is a sushi bar in the evenings, but again, enormously and unjustifiably expensive.

Quality of food was very good overall. The thai food was specially notable and we went there twice. The buffet at the main restaurant (lunch and dinner) was passable at best (price - around $ 45 per person for just around 6 - 8 dishes for lunch).

The spa was located exclusively on a smaller island connected by a bridge. It was nice, well maintained and clean.

Employees were friendly and helpful. Overall, a very good experience except for the unusually excess charges. We would go back again, but only on a super-good deal!

“Amazing Place!!”

Full Moon Maldives

What a wonderful place! We stayed in a water bungalow and loved the accomodation and the whole place!!!
Bit expensive, but we expected that, the only inconvenience was that there was no-where to get just a snack for lunch it was full meals everywhere so we ate loads for breakfast and then just waitied til tea time other wise the cost would have been out of control and we weren't really hungry because of the heat anyway.
We were staying at this hotel following a week travelling round Sri Lanka and changed to 5 nights instead of 7 in case we were 'bored' with not much to do but now which we had stayed for longer as the place is so relaxing and beautiful.
Would love to go back one day!!!
