This was our first "exotic holiday" and were slightly worried by some of the reviews that had posted negative comments, but these only lowered our expectations, which were beaten!
We loved the beaches, the setting, especially the anchorage bar, even if an orange juice did cost $8, but you dont go to these places expecting to save money.
We stayed in a Deluxe room, which is the cheapest option, but was perfectly adequate, big room, massive bed, wet room (sort of), with a shower big enough for 2!
Apart from high drink prices, my only other hang up was the lunch options, we stayed B&B, so we stuffed our faces at breakfast, as you do, but as lunch comes around, there isn't too many options, and towards the end of our stay, we started sharing meals, as one on your own was too much, the fish and chips were delicious (sounds horendous that we ate that on a tropical island, but they use reef fish, which were lovely).
Dinner....they have a handful of restaurants all with there own unique setting, the Thai, set indoors, was very nice, reccomend the Chicken red curry, yum! Sand Cafe which has a great terrace overlooking the beach, offering a mix of all sorts, reccomend the pan fried red snapper. Atoll Grill, tandorri grill, very nice, here you either sit out on a similar terrace or in little greenhouses that open up, its alot nice that I just made it sound! Or Casa Luna, which offers "Fine Dining", smart dress only.....we didn't bother with this one, sounded poncy and would probably cost a bomb!
Excursions.....If you only do one trip do the dolphin sunset cruise, as it only costs $30 each and we saw loads of dolphins jumping in and out the sea and a Manta, which is a huge sort of stin ray, you've got to be quick with the camera though!
Dont bother with the glass bottom boat, pants.
Take a Snorkel and you can even catch a look at baby sharks, yes baby sharks, swimming right past 2 feet from the beach, excellent!
We tried to upgrade our room for the last night to stay in a Water Bungalow, as they do look quite cool, not to mention the bath tub overlooking the ocean, but there weren't any available :-( Worth a go though, $150 a night upgrade fee.
oh and one last thing, one review called the pool area "manky", I'm not sure what they're used to, but manky is not how I would describe the pool area, we loved it, very clean, towles provided and a water fountain you can go and pose in if you fancy it.
