“Local Market but International option”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2014

Maldives has been top destination spot for tourists from west. This place very highly priced and shop selling goods are all marked up imported stuff (international standard).

I went in looking for locally produced/manufactured souvenirs, but disappointed.

“Small Island, Small Market!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2014

Male is a tiny island and so this market is small. It is right across the wet fish market and consists of a corrugated iron roofed building with short stretches of stalls and multiple entrances.

Here you will find the famous dried Maldive Fish and the delicious smoked tuna. The vendors are happy to offer free samples!.
There are other sellers selling fish paste (Riyahakuruu), and other local produce. In fact this market seems to sell only local produce.
Look out for the exotic and huge Pine Fruit (Pandanus fruit).
Worth a quick visit and it is totally hassle-free!

“Nothing special”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2013

I thought it will be more exotic. in general rather disappointing. Dark barracks, if you don't go, you will not miss a lot.

“Visit and experience this”

Get a feel of what the locals live with. This is where they shop for their fresh produce of fruit and vegetables. Oh and you get to try the coconut juice cut fresh for you for about $2.

“Truly Maldivian way!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013 via mobile

While many visits the Maldives for it's finest beaches, the local market is a must. Many resorts and hotels have their Maldivian Night theme during events nights however mixed with modern styles. The local market will open your eyes further. You will see how a real local dress up, how they see you as a normal and local like person like them. Some are unfortunately unable to speak English but you can surely understand through their body language. Very genuine friendliness! They have variety of fresh island fruits which some are common but tastes differently. Check their mangoes too, very tiny ones but real sweet and pulpy! Of course, all kinds of fresh and live fishes to see, and their unique island chips comes in different shapes and styles and taste. Go see yourself!!
