Male fish market is a simple open air wet market, with loads of fishes lying on the ground for viewing. After spending 1 week scuba diving onboard a live-on-board (LOB), I finally understood why the menu has tuna for every meal. The tunas caught were amazingly huge! Some can be as long as ¾ my height and I’m easily 163 cm tall!
Though small, the expert scaling and washing of fish by the fishmongers made the place interesting. Basically, you pick and choose the fish from the ground (specific viewing area for different fishes), point, and the locals will get one of the many fishmongers to scale it. You can even pack fresh tuna and bring it home on the plane! The locals take on average less than 3 minutes to remove skin, remove inner organs, remove bone, and cut the fish up. If not for anything, it’s an eye opener!
PS: take note of the overfriendly locals trying to lead you the way. They meant no harm, their intentions were just to bring you to their souvenir shop. Can be annoying after a while tho!
