My husband and I stayed at Centara from Sept 17- 20, to celebrate our 1yr wedding anniversary and my birthday. We flew in to Male Airport on 16 Sept, and stayed overnight at Fauna Inn. The staff at Centara was informed of this, and they were efficient in making arrangements with the staff at Fauna Inn, to ensure we had a smooth transition.
The next morning, we did have to wait for the other travellers before we could get onto the speedboat transfer. It didnt really bother us a bit, since we could only check into the rooms in the afternoon, and they were trying to be cost-efficient, i guess. Although it started having a heavy thunderstorm and we still had to wait for the wind to die down. In the meantime, the staff at the Centara counter had started tagging our lugguage. We were supposed to be staying at room 305, which was the water villa that we initially booked. My husband checked out the resort map and realised that 305 was quite nearer to the beach, so he requested for a further water villa. In the end, the staff gave us 2 water villas for my husband to choose, and we ended up with room 337 (if i'm not wrong).
We waited for quite a long time as the weather showed no signs of improving, and since the ride was 20 min away, the staff proceeded to let us board the speedboat and gave us lifevests to wear. It was a bumpy ride in that kind of weather, but it was an assurance to know that our safety wasnt compromised when the crew turned back their heads every few minutes, just to ask if everyone was okay.
By the time we reached the resort, the weather turned into a drizzle. Another staff started processing our check-ins and we were served welcome drinks and wet towels. However since we arrived at the resort quite early, we couldnt check into the rooms immediately and had to wait until 12pm. We took the time to explore the small island, and had our mocktails at the lobby bar.
As we booked the all-inclusive plan, we decided to have our buffet lunch 1st before checking into our room. For the 4 days we were at the resort, breakfast and lunch was practically served the same, with little variety at the main Ocean restaurant. Dinner buffet was slightly different, as every night, they have a different theme. But you can expect the same salad ingredients, the same bread counter, and the same dessert bar for all 3 sessions.
The water villa room was big and comfy. The only downside to it is that they dont provide toothbrush and toothpaste. From the steps to the sea, especially during low tide periods, we get to see different types of fishes. We even spotted a ray swimming near our villa, and a crab on our steps. It was so cool... We have spotted at least 10 different fish during our stay, even without having to snorkel.
Under the all-inclusive plan, we had our dinner at the Thai restaurant on 18 Sept. The food was delicious. I loved the green curry vegetables and the stir-fried meat with cashew nuts. Even the tom yum soup was just right. The taste was really authentic.
We did wanted to have our lunch at the Italian restaurant on 19 Sept. My husband had called to book the day before, since the seats were limited. But strangely enough, our names were not there. I asked my husband if he had made a mistake, but he said no. We double confirmed with the staff, and finally one of the staff said she could squeeze us in but we would have to wait until 1.30pm. My husband gave her our names, and we decided to walk to the Ocean restaurant to check out the lunch buffet. While reaching there, I changed my mind and decided to have lunch there instead of having to wait 1.5hr for the Italian food, since I was pregnant anyway.
The dolphin cruise did brighten up my day. We finally saw dolphins jumping out of the seas after cruising for 30min or more... Thanks to the crew's patience and their oh-so-sharp eyes.
Night time was amazing as my husband had prepared a surprise for me. He even requested for a birthday cake beforehand from the staff. The chocolate cake was delicious. I would have eaten more if I had not been so full.
It was only on Fri morning did the waves calm down, and only was playing non-motorised water sports possible. Unfortunately, we had to check out. Despite the not-so-calm weather, we didnt feel bored since we could borrow DVDs at the lobby. My greatest mistake? To go to e-zone and ended up playing playstation before dinner. I nearly couldnt drag my husband away.
Overall, I was glad I chose Centara, and that being the 1st time at Maldives. It was a relaxing experience that even my husband couldnt disagree..
