“Nice hotel but badly handled transfer and room arrangements”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2011

Wanted a change from our normal overnight stay at the Hulhule before heading out for our holiday at the Conrad, so decide to stay at the Traders.

With Hulhule you are at hotel in 5 mins, rooms are ok but overpriced. We arrived on SQ night flight and had been assured we would be transferred immediately by boat to the hotel. Had requested one extra bed. Transfer took for ever and then no extra bed which we had to chase up 3 times. Took 1.5 hours to sort all out. Oh you have to walk from the jetty to the hotel - its only a couple of hundred yards though ...

Check out was a shambles. We were meant to be transferred at 6.45am (originally 6.15am) for 7.15am seaplane. Sounds short but all doable - we've done it before, it is 10 mins to the seaport. Waited and waited for someone to take our bags to the jetty, we ended up doing it ourselves. Got to seaport late and ended up on a 8.15am flight.

Nice rooms, good bathrooms (much better than Hulhule), noisier than Hulhule as in Male. You save about US$100 per night, if you have time (and not tired young children) worth doing, if not choose Hulhule

Stopped off at the Traders for a day while waiting for our flight in the evening.

Had coffees, Sushi, spritzers at the roof top cafe called Azur. Amazing view of Male and the surrounding islands. A little warm but thank god for the refreshing dip in the lap pool.

The pool side bill took forever to arrive... We were one of the only tables filled. In the meantime we were sweating from the heat... Air conditioning in the restaurant might help.

22nd March 2011
The Hotel was booked by our travel Desk, usually picks good hotels. The traders however was really good for various reasons - the ambiance, of course because of the City it is situated in, the staff are not just courteous but helpful too. Another great thing is the free Wi fi available all over the Hotel, even in rooms.
The only problem I faced was as a vegetarian, the choice for lunch/ dinner was extremely limited.

They took our luggage by the vans, and we need to walk to reach the hotel. which is look so stupid. The reception was rude and wasnt helpful when I asked for information about my flight, he keep on saying "dont worry we will take care of it" but learning from my lesson we need to know our own flight ticket thats on their hand.

breakfast was little not much, room was ok, looks like fresh hotel in greece. nothing special. its just average, but ok. need to imrpove on service. they choose to accompany the westerners than asian. I need to remind them, not every asian is stingy for tips.

Our 4th visit to Maldives stayed here for 5 nights and it was just perfect, room was very clean, staff very helpful, everytime you walked in and out door was opened for you by friendly staff, breakfast was excellent and there was something for everyone to choose from.
Roof top pool was beautiful and you could sit and relax with friends at night.
We had a great ocean view from our balcony, the air condition was great and we could regulate the temperature, lots of goodies in the bathroom to use.
I have stayed at the Airport Hotel and this is the best.
Would come back and stay for sure.

This hotel is very clean and modern, with very spacious rooms that are very relaxing and well laid out.
They have good amenities including toothbrushes and paste, cotton buds, body lotion, shampoo and conditioner, shower gel, kettle with tea and coffee, plug socket to accept all plug styles, other sockets in the room are Uk style, tv with a good choice of channels,iPod alarm dock.
The shower has 2 heads- one regular style and a lovely rain shower.

The beds are very comfortable with a choice of soft and firm pillows.
The reason we didn't score sleep quality the highest is because the local mosque calls to prayer at regular intervals throughout the day and night, also there is a bit of building work going on nearby which they did at night and could hear a bit of noise from that as well so advisable to wear earplugs if you are a light sleeper!

We did a fabulous snorkelling trip organized through the hotel (could also do diving on same trip) which cost about $45 each, would definitely recommend doing this-take an underwater camera!

We had a problem when the safe in our room broke, they can and spent 10 minutes trying to fix it but when that didn't work they offered to change our room. We accepted and they were very apologetic and helpful, offering to help us pack our stuff to move. It did not take long and they helped move bags to the room and were again very genuinely sorry for the problem.

We stayed one night in the Traders. Good location, very modern and contemporary rooms with comfy bed and fab shower. The hotel also gas a nice rooftop bar, with open air pool and gym all on the top floor. The hotel is also walking distance of a very authentic Thai (Solas Thai) which was also excellent. We didn't breakfast in the hotel and as a little pricey, used the cafe (Shell Beans) on the harbour front, great Lattes!
