During our trip in Kuala Lumpur, few days had to be extended due to some work. As this was not planned in the beginning, we had no prior hotel bookings for the extended days. We decided to go for a budget hotel.
We came across the website of StayOrange Hotel, the prices were incredibly cheap and the photos of the rooms did not seem bad either. Plus the hotel was located in China Town (Petaling Street) and i wanted to check out the atmosphere there. I decided to book for a couple of days to see how it goes.
Petaling street is really crowded throughout the day and night, obviously with the small shops and number of people buying fake goods in China Town. There are lots of small restaurants and street food and at one point, i was getting disgusted with the smell of burning soy sauce.
Well, about the hotel, a small booth reception to check-in with part time teenagers, no elevator, narrow staircases, the interior of the hotel was not that great but the room was alright. The rooms were decent for the price, it was small but one could manage, there was a LCD TV, air conditioner, a private bathroom with glass doors (if you are sharing a room with somone, you better be really flexible with the other person). Overall experience was okay, keeping in mind of what we paid.
I think it's a good solution for many budget travellers but for a few extra dollars, it is possible to avoid the noise and bustle of petaling street and stay at the Tune Hotel (which i thought was really good in the budget category).
