We spent 9 nights at the Seri Pacific at the beginning of February. We booked a superior room with b/fast through Agoda and got a good price with an early bird promotion.
Following the advice of a reviewer we decided to try the Star shuttle bus from KLIA (into which we were flying) which drops off at the S.P(18 MR per person)However this involved quite a hike to find the bus station in the basement of the airport. We had to load our suitcases ourselves onto the bus, and were taken to the centre of KL where we had to disembark and crowd onto a minibus, unloading and re-loading our cases again and we were the fourth and last drop off at the hotel;total transfer time 2 hours. Not worth the hassle!Get the express train and then a taxi coupon from the desk at Sentral. It costs a bit more, but is faster and more comfortable.
Normally we stay in the Golden Triangle area and this hotel seemed very far out from our usual haunts, but due to the close proximity of the PWTC station which was a 5 minute walk on a covered overhead walkway, and the machines in the station which allow you to book a one- token ride on different transport systems we were able to reach the heart of Bukit Bintang in 15 minutes.(one stop to Tittiwangsa, change to Skytrain to go to Bukit Bintang)
Taxis are also available, but we try to avoid these due to a reluctance of some of the drivers to put on the meter, plus the traffic problem in KL itself.
On arrival, our cases were unloaded and taken inside and we were told they would be taken up to our room, there are several porters, doorman and helpful staff as you arrive.
We then went up the escalator to check in at Reception. This was promptly accomplished and we were given a room on a non smoking floor(when are ALL hotels going to be NON SMOKING??) with a view of the Petronas towers, on the 12th floor.Room 1208.We went up in the main lifts and met the porter with our cases outside the room.
The room corresponded to the hotel's website pictures,so we were quite happy with it.
The website mentions a balcony, but I would like to mention this is purely ornamental and very sensibly the picture window is sealed shut. The bed linen was fresh and changed regularly,A sheet-blanket-sheet-sandwich was on top of the bed.Mattresses were very comfortable. There was a cupboard with iron and ironing board and space for our 2 big cases during our stay.
A second large cupboard contained a small empty fridge and coffee and tea making facilities and kettle. We are very happy with an empty fridge which leaves us to stock it how we like and also put food in it which is essential for my diabetic husband. It also saves having nasty surprises on bills at the end of the holiday.
Flat screen TV with Discovery and 2 English language news channels(as well as other language channels of course)Good water pressure in the showers.Separate shower room with 'rain forest' ceiling shower,as well as a second separate bathroom with bath and wall fixed shower and toilet(with interesting incorporated device in the toilet to wash your behind!)Hand basin with large space for toiletries.Gels, shampoo, moisturiser, toothbrush etc.provided daily. The only problem bathroom-wise was that 5 days out of the 9 we didn't have hand towels. After phoning housekeeping they would usually arrive.Once more flannels came instead and another time the person answering the housekeeping phone didn't seem to know what hand towels were(are these the long ones?she asked me)There is also a desk with chair and various types of plugs on the desk for re-charging appliances. There is a safe in the wardrobe and we received extra pillows and extra hangers promptly when we requested them.
2 complimentary bottles of water provided daily.
Air conditioning was fine.View from the window stunning.
There is a smallish swimming pool as well as various restaurants+ spa(none of which we used)
The BAR had a great Filippino girl group singing in the evening(it was their first week while we were there)Polished routines and good atmosphere. They greeted the guests in between sets which I thought was nice.Unfortunately the bar is a smoking area and as we don't like to be wreathed in smoke,so we only took advantage of the entertainment during one evening.
Twice during our stay we heard a PIANO PLAYER in the reception/hall.Nice touch.
The CONCIERGE desk was well manned and provide a local daily newspaper on request.,as well as answers to information enquiries.
When my lock wouldn't open on my case,a wonderful team of McGuivers (concierge, porter, maintenance) did their best to release it and in the end kindly cut the lock off.Very helpful.Thank you.
All staff were friendly and helpful.
Don't ever think of booking this hotel without breakfast!!!!!It was the highlight of my day!
Super display of food, fruits, juices, cakes, pastries, cooked dishes, salads,Malay dishes,Chinese dishes, fresh omelettes done to order, sausages, beans, etc etc etc;The roti canai was so fluffy it was like flaky pastry (irresistible!!).There was no pork/bacon(owner is Muslim) but very thin slices of fried beef acted as an alternative. My husband and I are vegetarian and even we had a super choice of alternatives to drool over. They also had the best bread pudding I have ever tasted(since school days),not something you expect for breakfast....but great!!
Coffees or teas served at the tables.
We didn't use the hotel restaurants or room service so cannot comment.
One of our main concern when booking a hotel is finding vegetarian food locally in the evening. At the worst we knew we could get to Paragon(Food Republic lower ground floor) by public transport. However Sunway Mall opposite had a very good supermarket(Cold Storage) on the lower ground floor which provided some evening snacks and fruit. There are also some fast food outlets in the building(but mainly meat orientated)
On the 4th floor of SUNWAY there is the remains of a food court, rather sad and seen better days, however there was one stand which had a great array of tasty foods including several vegetarian dished. As they focus on lunch time clients it is best to eat in the evening about 6p;m;They close at 7.30P.M. although while we were there the Mall had extended its hours to close at 10.30(near Chinese new year)
Rice + 2 or 3 veg dishes(self service) cost about 5 MR. Fab value, but surroundings drear.
Next door to the SP,on the left there is also a food court called Medan Selera Putra Laut. This closes at 15.00 but is fine for lunch.Look for the parasols and wicker furniture.Again we were able to eat tasty local veg dishes for less that 6MR.
We were unable to access wifi either in the room or in the reception.(Apparently a new system is now being installed, starting at the top floors of the building),However Miss MELINDA,the Front Office Manager whom I was fortunate enough to meet by chance in reception, organised the answer to my query concerning the Airasia flight departure, which was concerning me.While with her,she graciously listened to several points which I felt could help other clients in the future.
One of the points was the fact that despite contacting the hotel 3 times during a 3 month period prior to our arrival by email requesting single beds, non smoking room, high floor if at all possible & a view of the Petronas towers, the reservations dept who answered insisted that requests would only be considered on arrival. This is the first time that ANY hotel I have contacted have not replied in the positive concerning special requests,or at least saying they would do their best.Although we received on arrival what we asked for,it was 3 stressful months wondering if we would be put on a smoking room(which we definitely would not accept)Hopefully these sorts of enquiries could be dealt with more sympathetically in the future.
I also commented that Tripadvisor reviews were not being answered on line, and misinformation not corrected.I see that replies by the owner are now being posted.
Not only was Ms Melinda gracious enough to hear me out,I was totally bowled over to find when we got to our room,a gorgeous chocolate cake!Totally unexpected!Thank you.
The staff of the hotel were super and helpful, and we were happy to have chosen the Seri Pacific. I would fully recommend it to anyone going to KL for a short or long stay.
We hope to go back there next time we are in this super city.A big thank you to all.
High floors get the better view;Request a non smoking floor if you need it.
