Before going to KL for second time read lots of reviews on the hotels in this area. Decided here because of location and facilities for our 2 year old. Must say hotel was very good with us and must mention their hotel airport manager who was more than helpful when our transfer from another company didnt turn up at the airport. Thanks again. The hotel took care of all our requirements late check out, room with view, away from elevators. I found the food in room pricey. Bottle of bud also pricy RM34 in hotel.

The Crown plaza was in a great location, right outside the monorail station which is 1 station from the main shopping area. In the other direction it is a short walk to all the nightclubs and bars.
All the staff were fantastic - especially the concierges.
The breakfast was probably the best I have ever had.
Could not fault the hotel.

My partner and I checked in late at the Crowne.

I had spoken to the front desk officer the previous day to find out rates for taxis from the airport. The answer was: we have a limo service for MYR 150. I said it wasn't necessary, that a taxi would do fine. They said it should cost MYR 120. We got to the airport taxi booth (the red cabs) and paid a fixed charge of MYR 61.
Upon check-out, they refused to call a regular cab for us, stating we would be better off taking their cab service.

I had asked for a room with a view onto the towers - they could not guarantee one over the phone but said it shouldn't be a problem. On arrival, there were none available. "We'll transfer you to a room with a view tomorrow"

On the first night, our toilet flush wasn't working. The room clearly hadn't been prepared - there was no shampoo, no soap, no bin lining...We went to reception in the morning to get transferred to our room with a view (and a working toilet) They said they were very busy and we should do it later.

We came back in the afternoon to transfer - what was going to be a "15 minute" job, turned into over an hour.

"We're busy checking in our new guests. We'll change your room asap". Our room had been done up, so we sat patiently on the sofa in our room. 15 minutes turned into one hour. I tried calling reception repeatedly. I was either greeted by a rude front desk officer, or put on hold until the call dropped...We were finally transferred.

On our last morning at the Crowne, I called reception to ask what the latest time for check-out was. They said 1:00 pm. I confirmed we would be leaving at 12:30 pm. "No problem"

We left our room and returned just after 12:00 pm - they had locked us out. We had to spend another half hour in the lobby getting our room unlocked and rushing around to get to the airport on time!

I spoke to Christina, the Guest Relations Manager and told her what had happened. She asked me if we would be coming back to KL and if we would stay at the Crowne. She asked if there was anything she do to make us change our mind.
I answered that we would be coming back but not staying at the Crowne.
She asked for my e-mail address, saying she would contact me.
One month on - no e-mail from Christina.

We decided not to give Crowne another shot and stayed next door at the Istana, where we were looked after very nicely by genuine staff.

Great location of the hotel, nice and clean room, superb bathroom, very tasty breakfast- all in all- very good value for money.
The only problem I have with this place is- and this is where I agree with the previous review- is the concierge service- overpriced taxi service- we were quoted exactly the same amount as in the previous review. It was a big shock to me, as we were travelling all around Malaysia and it was the only place where they are adding their charge on top of what taxi charges. My advice- just go outside of the hotel and catch the taxi on the street- you wouldn't have to wait long or even better- take a train. We were also trying to get some information on how to get to the attractions outside of KL and instead of giving us info which we needed concierge was more concerned with selling us one of their obviously overpriced hotel tours so in the end we received no info on travelling at all. If you want to use internet in the evening they also might send you on the trip to almost all the hotel floors, as they do not seem to know what time the facilities are available to the guest and where.
All in all, I would stay in this hotel again, but probably on the club floor- the ladies working at the Club Lounge provide very personalized service and will look after you like in the best hotels in the world, Sharifa is the best asset to this hotel when it comes to the guests service!!! I just wish the concierge was more concerned with looking after the guests, listening to their needs, rather than being concerned with 'how to squeeze money out of tourists', as this leaves quite sour taste of this otherwise a very nice hotel indeed.
