“Great budget hotel, but expect no frills”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2014

Great place to stay if you need something centrally located, close to great restaurants and very cheap. There are absolutely no frills here, but the rooms are clean, quiet, and have all basic necessities covered. The staff is friendly and the price is a real bargain. It's a newer location, so if you're going by taxi tell them you need Metro Hotel KL Sentral at Brickfields. It's on the same street with Old Town White Coffee shop on the corner. If you stay there, head around the corner and visit Jassal for some spectacular, authentic Tandoori cuisine.

The only reason I give this 4 stars instead of 5 is because of a couple hiccups in communication regarding our reservation. I had requested airport transfer and was expecting it (the airport in KL is quite far from the city). No one was waiting for us and I got a busy tone when I tried to call the hotel. I found out later that airport transfer is not provided as a service by the hotel, but by a separate company who contracts space in their lobby. Airport transfer could've been handled regardless, if communication were effective. At the very least, if it's not offered, it shouldn't be part of the reservation options so I knew what to expect.

Overall, very positive experience minus that one inconvenience.

Room Tip: I picked the cheapest room which was "Double with No View". From the position of the hote...

We arrived earlier than the time i gave the hotel so we had to wait about an hour for the room to be ready. Location is strategic. Near to KL sentral and food. Clean room. They have hair dryer too. However, there is no cupboard or railings to hang your clothes. Will recommend people to stay here.

The room we stayed in is probably not one of the best rooms in this hotel: very small and no window. Clean enough, everything is working, tea and coffee in the room, complimentary mineral water. The bed is okay, and Kuala Lumpur did tire us, making sleeping, on any suface, straight-forward.

Staff is not fantastically friendly, but also not unpleasant.

For the price of our room (RM 110), half price introductory rate, we would recommend Metro Hotel without hesitation, but we have some doubts about whether this will be value for money at the normal rate, which is double the introductory rate.

Location is great, only a few hundred meters from KL Sentral, and resonably good (Indian) vegetarian food is available only 500 metres from the hotel (exit hotel, turn left, turn right, turn left, turn right, and Radhey's Pure Vegetarian restaurant should soon appear on the left. Reasonably priced, and the food is fresh and quite tasty. The route: https://goo.gl/maps/wdmtb

The location is great if you need to be near Sentral Station and you love Indian food. The area is a bit rough but lively at night so it feels safe. My room was relatively large, with a good bathroom, very quiet all day and night, good bedding, with a room safe, and good wifi (except at night when it gets slow). Two problems: grimy washbasin and minimal cleaning, and total lack of space for hanging clothes, no closet or even a rail with a few coat hangers. OK for one night but no more.

We stayed here for 3 nights but had to change room twice because the rooms were dirty. The first room had a really bad smell and the second room had dirty sheets. The room we ended up in was really big and had a view of the street. We were on the 14th floor and the room wasn't too noisy. The staff were friendly and helpful but the rooms were never really clean which was a shame as the hotel had the perfect location.

Eventhough I got the room with no window, it was okay. The room was very clean and what I liked most was that all the empoyees are very nice and helpful at any time. Another good thing, is that it is located almost next to KL Senntral from where you get easily to any place in KL. Keep it up!

very handy for KL sentral and the monorail. (no need for the rip-off taxis of KL)
we paid the walk-in rate (still good value) - best to book online for a discount.
all clean and modern - good nights sleep - we were top floor at the side (but expect noisy at front as very busy area).
we thought the area was a bit run down and seedy but lots places to eat street food and 1 or 2 better resturants.
would we stay again - yes

Room Tip: side or back rooms
