“Not so good...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2007

We had two rooms when we stayed here, one for my mom and dad, and one for my sister and I. When we booked, the travel agent specified for the rooms to be next to each other, yet when we got there we were told that this wasn't available, but luckily we were still on the same floor.

The location of the hotel is great, two major shopping centres can be access just by crossing the street. There is also wonderful views out the windows.

The staff here were not friendly at all. We stayed here after staying 10 nights in the Shangri La Tanjung Aru Resort in Kota Kinabalu, and the service here was nothing compared to there. At the Shangri La, whenever you walked past a staff member they would smile and greet you, whereas at the Park Royal, the only person who greeted anyone was the housekeeper on the floor we were staying at (#17).

The bathroom was by far one of the worst parts of the hotel. The shower is in the bath, and it is not even a bath that is designed for being a shower as well. It is a hassle to turn on as you have to pull this little thing up so it doesn't just come out the bath tap, and a few times the thing would just not work. Also, EVERY time someone has a shower, the bath leaks and you end up having to use one of the towels they provide to mop it up.

The breakfasts at the hotel were all right, but nothing too special. There is a section where you can get omlettes/eggs cooked, however the person cooking seems incapable to be able to cook past a certain time, which is good if you like raw eggs, but if you want your eggs cooked you have to ask a few times for them to cook it longer.

This hotel is in a wonderful location, and should improve themselves dramatically.

Stayed for a few nights for a city stopover in June 2007. I'll be brief:

- Location great - can't beat it cental to seveal major KL shopping centres (Lot 10, Sungei Wang, Star Hill, Time Square, IMBI Plaza (IT stuff), monorail just outside, eateries and lively Bukit Bintang area around the corner.
- Hotel recently renovated thus rooms modern and clean, good pool,
- Excellent b/fast

Service was average at best - front desk was simply not interested and unfriendly -for a international hotel, management needs to take note and action.

Stayed at the Westin previously, no comparison, particularly on the service front.

  • Liked — Great location
  • Disliked — Service was lacking - in particular Front Desk reception

Ok, so I have been to this hotel 5 times over the last few years and each time it gets slightly worse, What is has going for it is it's location, right across the road from the BEST shopping centre, it is called Sungai Wang plaza and really is fantastic , dvd's etc - around the corner is Times Square - has a rollercoaster park inside it again fantastic , walking distance starhill gallery and several clubs,

What is lacks is something.... it is hard to actually pin point perhaps becasue it is heavily booked by the package aussie/kiwi/uk tourists I don't know it just lacks style, the breakfast is fine, standard asian fare, the rooms are good the beds are HUGE bigger then king beds here in Aus - the pool area lacks something as well - until recently it had a massage parlour attached to it and I was advised by another guest that they offered more then a massage, but this has now gone as it should

I don't think it is 5 star in fact places like Mandarin or the Ritz or Hilton are five star this is a 3-4 star hotel in a 5 star location and whilst you should not be unhappy with your stay as it will provided all your needs don't go expecting the Ritz ( ha that is around the corner) In saying all of this I will continue to use this as my base for stop overs I would like a cocktail by the pool and better pool side service I would like better lounge facilities, but to be honest the Parkroyal has never done wrong by me and should service you well -

  • Liked — Location to other things
  • Disliked — Pool, lounge bar, Gun totting security from the jade shop out the front of the hotel
