“ok hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2013

I had my doubts after reading a number of reviews but my travel agent assured me that it was a good hotel with a great location so we took their word as this was our first time to KL.

The positives are the location and that we found all the staff very friendly and helpful. Being attached to the shopping mall and by a metro stop is another plus.

As for the bedroom..... its huge. A kitchen area with fridge and tea/coffee facilities. A separate toilet, a shower and bathroom. A lounge area and bed area. I agree with so many that the rooms are stuck in a time warp. The sofa, chair lampshades were very stained.

We too had to change rooms but that was because the toilet didn't work in the first room.

Breakfast was ok. Could always get a seat and plenty food but just ok.

Wouldn't return, shame as the staff are lovely but hotel needs a refurb.

This is by far the best breakfast that a hotel can offer. The variety, the quality, even the unique healthy juice in test tubes are such a wonderful experience of grastonomy you can ever have. The staffs of the restaurant are wonderful but not the front office. Not smiling, not friendly at all. Love the room in the tower that faced the old Pudu Jail but really hate the room on the other opposite end because of the ridiculous way to enter the tower after certain hour.

Initially, my sister and I were quite reluctant to choose this hotel as we read several negative reviews. However, we wanted a hotel which is situated in a good location for us chill at night as we were celebrating my birthday that very night. So we decided to give it a try as this hotel is definitely the best choice if you're looking for a strategic location. As soon as we arrived, we were very impressed with the service of the bellman. They were very friendly to assist us all the way. *Another point to add, (which might or might not be helpful), the lobby was nicely set-up, the lighting was bright enough as some hotels' lobby lighting is a little dim and air-con is not cold enough, but for this hotel's lobby, everything was just nice. Imagine the moment you stepped into a hotel lobby and with all these nice atmosphere, it somehow lifts your mood. Also, the check-in was also speedily done and one of the front office staff realized it was my birthday and greeted me! We stayed in a very spacious Premier Superior Room and everything was proper in the room.

My sister and I really enjoyed the stay although we only spent a night there. It was indeed the BEST birthday stay ever. No regrets that we chose to take the risk to stay here despite reading some negative reviews.
Fantastic Hotel.

Out of a three week trip around Malaysia this hotel has been the worst stop yet!

1) We changed rooms after checking in as the furniture was putrid (stained, dilapidated and falling apart). This was on their top floor...

2) After speaking with three different people we were moved to another room 20 floors down which had the exact same problems.

3) The walls are paper thin and you are able to hear other guests both beside and above you as they use their bathrooms and showers.

4) Overall quality of the hotel is beyond poor. In the 1990's this would have been great, although since then the decor and furniture has aged without any attempt to service or upgrade it, however I have heard they have re done some rooms but charge an upgraded premium fee. When complaining about our room the service staff member pointed out that we had in fact been upgraded as it's our honeymoon and we had a LCD TV instead of a CRT (the LCD is a Singer television in an old cabinet that provides a terrible viewing angle whilst laying on the concrete mattress or sitting on the sunken couch). We will be talking to our travel agent who recommended this hotel, perhaps she stayed here in 1992...

5) When you are hungry in the morning recommend you walk 50 metres to the Berjaya Times Sqaure food court. The quality of the food is upsetting here at the hotel. To think they could take perfectly good ingredients and then turn them into dishes which guests were leaving untouched on their plates is something I hadn't seen before until dining here. The staff clearly do not want to be there, do not understand etiquette such as asking you for coffee or asking why they are clearing full plates of food from you're table. We made the decision not to eat there again during our stay and instead pay for a breakfast worth eating.

6) At any stage if you would like to order room service or speak to an operator be prepared to dial more than once. It wasn't common for the phone to ring out after hitting 'zero' to speak to reception.

My husband and I share some of the blame as we took what our travel agent said at face value without researching for ourselves. At the end of the day for the hotels we were looking for (4 star and up) this hotel SHOULD NOT appear on those lists.

You may also find a response from the GM or MGT team member below. Please read through other reviews which call out the same issues from months ago. The MGT team has said they are addressing those issues, however we can assure those of you reading this that it is not the case. An example of this is the fire alarm on our floor which has a letter above it saying it is out of order and being fixed, dated six months ago. God help us all...

Looking forward to not coming back.

Room Tip: Choose a room down the road at the Westin or any other well known brand.

My first stay and use of the ball room for a big event. It was indeed an excellent experience for a hotel with high traffic where the staff members provided high than expected quality service delivery. A warm and friendly culture obvious is what runs this hotel and it's team. Well organised and location is strategic. Breakfast is great, nice choice of variety and good service / clean and presentable. Very professional service.

Room Tip: Higher floors give a good view of KL city centre.

You can just complete your shopping in the Mega Mall connected to the Hotel. We have some issues, but the staff were helpful and friendly. Service recovery is great.

Thanks to Patricia who took good care of us during our stay making sure our issues are resolved.

I am greatly impressed by Sree at the concierge desk, he displayed going the extra mile to assist his guests.

This is our second stay here. It was excellent from all the staff in the hotel especially to the DM Fairos with great smiling. The location is convenient nearby to nearby shopping centres by taking monorail, taxi or walking. Thumps up for the great service by DM Fairos who helped us throughout our stay in the hotel.
