We stayed at the Equatorial Hotel (KL) enroute to Bali in July this year. We stayed for two nights (3 days) and found this hotel to be very quiet, although the soft furnishings in the room were a bit ‘jaded’ especially the carpet and curtains. The room size was quite large, bathroom was very spacious, very clean and as mentioned earlier (especially when you need to catch up on your sleep after a long journey) the hotel was very quiet.

I must say that the hotel did offer us a fantastic service. Our flight arrived in from the UK early on Saturday morning, and even though check-in was mid afternoon, we emailed ahead and asked if we could have a room on arrival. They advised that the hotel was full and may not be able to accommodate our request. But … when we arrived at about 8.30am, sure enough after a speedy check-in we were advised that they had managed to have a room prepared for us, and in fact house-keeping were just finalising the preparation of it for us.

We did not eat in the hotel so we cannot provide any feedback on that, but they had a lovely piano bar on the way out of reception (right hand side) called ‘Flo’, and it was very relaxing and the staff were more than happy to rustle up whatever cocktail you fancied, and were even happy to recommend some. My husband had the most amazing Singapore Sling there, the best I have ever tasted. The Mojitos were also fantastic.

The location of the hotel was very good and central. KLCC was just about a 5 minute walk around the corner, and once you step out of the hotel and take a few steps you have a fantastic view of the Petronas Towers. It is worth noting that you must go to the Traders Hotel and take the lift to their ‘Sky Bar’ where you have the most amazing view of the Towers lit up at night. The seating areas surround a swimming pool and if you are lucky enough to get a window seat, they are very plush and luxurious with big leather cushions.

KLCC was an amazing shopping experience, never ending designer stores, lots of places to eat and all in all a great Mall (one of many).

You must also try to visit Putrajaya - the new city with its Palace and Massive new Mosque, very clean and impressive.

“Club room well worth extra $$”

Just back from a three night stopover followed by further one night stopover at Equatorial on way to and from Phuket.
Have to say we loved staying at the Equatorial, we paid the extra for use of club facilities were very happy that we did so.
Our room was clean and spacious, flat screen tv on wall, a dvd player and a desk. Comfy chair and footstool. The bed was very comfortable not like the usual hard as a rock beds I have experienced in Asia. Bathroom a little dissapointing due to shower over bath and no ventilation so it got steamed up, but not really a problem as we usually left our room soon after showering.
The best part was having access to breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails and snacks in the club lounge . It was so relaxing to go to club lounge and be waited on at breakfast , they had selection of juices and cereals, selection of tropical fruits, three different hot dishes along with an omelete station to make eggs however you wanted.
A good selection of pastries and toasts, spreads etc.
An expressso machine that made delicious fresh coffee all day up till 11pm at night. Anytime we wanted a coffee or soft drink we just popped into the club lounge.
The afternoon snacks were generous and delicious, little sandwiches, tiny filled rolls, a selection of cakes etc. Missed a couple of afternoon teas as we were out shopping but the days we were there for afternoon tea we were mostly the only ones there.
Between 6pm and 8pm they lay out all sorts of snacks such as sushi, spring rolls, tropical fruits, cakes, tiny little trifles etc and you are allowed to help yourself to beers, Red and white wines or spirits.
The club lounge has a good selection of magazines, newpapers and plasma tvs on walls if you want to watch news. You can borrow from a large selection of dvds if you want to take one back to your room to watch.
The internet access was very good the club room has about 4-6 computers with internet access that you can use (free) at anytime the club lounge is open. We never had a problem grabbing a computer each so it was easy to keep up with whats going on at home.
The young ladies working on reception at club floor were very helpful and eager to help with getting us an adaptor or coffee whatever we asked for was delivered with a smile.
The swimming pool whilst nothing flash was very clean and in good sun with comfortable sun loungers.
Location was excellent and an easy walk to the towers, and only a couple of minutes walk to monorail.
I would be very happy to return to the Equatorial.

This hotel is the worst in Kuala Lumpur I have tried and I have already been to 33 different hotels in the USD 100 (MYR 300)/night range.
Only hotel in KL which charges guests to use its own car park at full rate.
The room deco (even on club floor) is plain ugly. looks like it has not been changed since 1970's. not sure it has been cleaned either actually. The shower head should be given to the History Museum.
The internet access rates are outrageous, considering that it is free in most hotels in KL.
There is currently (July 2008) a major construction site right behind Equatorial hotel, so the view is the ugliest in town.

“What a terrible hotel”

Hotel Equatorial Kuala Lumpur

Aug 8, 2008

The rooms smelt, the wallpaper was mouldy and the toilet was blocked. We had asked for connecting rooms as we were travelling with children. We had to argue just to get rooms on the same floor next to each other. We were told that the room type we had booked did not have connecting rooms however the one my husband was given had a connecting door but not to my room. When I complained that we had asked for connecting rooms when we had made our booking we were told "it's only a request". Totally unhelpful.
Great location, but the same can be said of much better hotels. The carpet in the reception area and the lifts are filthy and this gives a very bad impression of the hotel. In my case they lived upto my fears. We moved onto the Crowne Plaza hotel- a few meters walk away and a totally different story.
