Stayed at the Maya twice in Nov./Dec. 2008. Stayed in a junior suite, and received impeccable service during both stays. Staff recognized you upon return (a week later), and remembered where you'd gone to and enquired how it'd been. Room was very nice, with a massive tub and a lovely shower. A little wear, but nothing of significance.

Breakfast was amazing! Also tried their excellent room service, as well as all three restaurants in the hotel. The Japanese style one (Still Waters) had GREAT food, and the others were definitely comparable. Ramah Tamah makes awesome sandwiches. Highly recommend the hotel's squeezed apple juice - I couldn't get enough of it! Fresh, sliced fruit in room in the afternoons was a lovely treat.

Laundry and dry cleaning service was excellent. Never got a chance to try the spa, fitness center or the pool, we were out and about most of the time and were headed to a resort later on in our trip. Did hear it was really nice though.

Internet access is available.

The execution of our friends' wedding dinner was superb.

Fantastic location as well. Recommend using their limousine service to/from the airport - nicer than regular taxi.

This is truly a five star hotel, and one of a few I measure all others against. We'll be back.

Very impressive, if slightly dated at times

We greatly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Maya. We arrived a day early, after abandoning a small leg of our trip. Our 2 night stay was very pleasant, made even more so by our free upgrade to a deluxe suite (right place at the right time I guess). The room was very large, with a great view of the KL Tower (but not the Petronas Towers), on the 19th floor. It was basically a studio apartment, minus kitchenette, with desk, lounge, bed, a sitting area with more chairs, large wardrobe and dressing area, and well appointed bathroom with large bath and shower. The room was starting to look a little dated, but it was obviously very innovative in its time.

The location is generally excellent. Quite close to both a monorail and LRT station, so handy in that respect. Also very close to both Petronas Towers, and Menara KL Tower and the Bukit Nanas forest reserve. The proximity to the Petronas Towers is appreciated best from the Sky Bar. The view from the bar on the 12th floor is staggering, and it was great to sit outside on the deck, sipping cocktails, and nibbling at an assortment of cheese and antipasto, watching the buildings light up at night. The only thing that is very trivial, but that we noticed, is it's not near any convenience stores or any local amenities, which is something I like to have close by, but that probably won't matter to most (and is not a big deal). I succumbed to the always-expensive mini bar.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. We tried the included breakfast buffet one morning, which was a very nice spread of western/European breakfast foods and fruit. The restaurants looked very nice, and the building still looks very modern in most cases. It was very attractive.

We ordered room service one night, which was nice enough. Could've been better, but good. By world standards, it was relatively cheap, and we didn't have the energy to find something cheaper (although it's right near Suria KLCC, under the Petronas Towers, which has a reasonable food court that's open evenings).

A tip for those weary of the local taxi drivers. We took a chauffer car from the front desk to get to Sentral, at a cost of only RM30. Not bad considering the premium taxi from Novotel was RM40 (although traffic wasn't as heavy this time). They offered to take us all the way to the airport for RM150, but as with most things, haggling is possible, because after we said we already had pre-payed bus tickets, the price dropped to RM110 (and maybe it would be possible to go lower in off-peak times). I'd recommend this over getting the KLIA-Ekspress if there are 2 or more people, because the train tickets are RM35 each, and you still have to get to Sentral.

No complaints about the room, the staff or the food. Room service great and lots of little extras in the room. Great view of Petronas Towers and less than 5 minute walk to the Towers.
My only complaint -I always book a hotel with a pool, my one criteria with children however was unable to use the pool as it was for children over 8 years of age. This had not been mentioned in any of my readings on the hotel.
The staff however were very child friendly and there was lots to do in KL so our 5 year old found lots of other things to work off his energy.

I'm not one who normally writes reviews, but I felt a few things needed to be said about this hotel. The first thing that really lets this hotel down is the rudeness of the front desk, when I checked in for a group of us they were rude and abrupt - no smiles here.. move along. I'm not one that's usually bothered about the niceties, but these guys just barked the normal check in questions at me, and when I went to hand them more then one passport I got barked at "ONE AT A TIME"! Not good for first impressions.. Another issue we had was getting a taxi back to the airport from the hotel, We paid 140R (£28) from the airport, however when we tried to book a return taxi at the front desk they tried to charge us 250R (£50) for the same journey using there own service.. needless to say I wasn't happy and made the point that I wanted them to call another taxi company.. they didn't, however after they lowered the price to 150R (£30), an unnecessary argument that just ended up annoying the customer...

The pool/spa area was nice - and the rooms had modern decor although they were a little shabby on closer inspection, there was also a moldy smell in the room. The lobby area outside the rooms isn't air conditioned as its completely open to the outside so as soon as you step outside your room the heat hits you.. also the rooms on the lower floor suffer from noise from the ground floor bar/restaurant area as the noise reverberated up through the lobby.

Breakfast was good and so was the location - 5 mins from the Patroneas towers. There was also a nice Sky Bar that offered free nibbles and non-alcholic drinks in the evening.

I also stayed at the Traders hotel while in KL, it cost about the same price but I have to say was miles ahead in all areas. Traders was amazing in comparison..

Although there was nothing terrible about Maya - it could be so much better, If only they would try a little harder..

I recently had a great 4 night stay with the Maya Hotel, KL. My first impression was that it seemed more like a luxury condo than a hotel. The pool was small, the bar/restaurants uninspiring - but the room was fantastic. It was very well thought out - I loved all the little things and the room service was excellent. The small pool was a hydrotherapy pool and a very relaxing experience. The breakfast buffet was excellent, especially the dishes cooked to order. The sky lounge is an excellent idea but could do with some funky lounge music. The best thing of all was the staff; a very warm Malaysian feeling from all, thank you so much. I've read one or two mixed reviews about this place and the staff and, as a long time south east asian expat, I can only say that this hotel compares very favourably to others in the region/price range - try to smile at staff as much as possible, even when you're having a problem, and it's suprising how much they'll try to help you. I'll be back to KL just to have another stay at this hotel.
