We were on a business trip and stayed in the East wing having booked through the Marriott website. Overall experience very good. However I can see where the guy who said 'tired rooms' is coming form.

My room had great view and everything worked well but the carpet had seen better days and needed replacing. The Broadband was expensive at 60RYM per day but worked well and we used 'Skype out' to have a conference call with the USA without an issue.

Hot tip: Don't plug the iron into the light socket. It fuses the room. There is a little notice above the plug but after a long flight and in a rush to iron a shirt ..........

It took a little under 10 minutes for a nice man to come and re-set the room so brownie points for the service.

Pool is great, gym excellent and well maintained with a large selection of kit.

2nd Hot tip: Avoid the bar for beers. After a very long day we stopped off at the Sports bar for a beer (the others had awful loud live singing). 3 beers was ~MYR125 which is very very expensive. In fact the single bar bill cost more than all meals and drink for the entire day!

I'd give it five stars if the carpet in the room wasn't past its sell by date.

Great location, superb view on Petronas Towers, amazing huge swimming pool on 4th floor, impressive lobby and reception area, very tasty and well prepared breakfast with huge range of dishes (malaysian, chinese, international cuisine). The disadvantages: tired rooms and old rooms and bathrooms ! In the east wing they definietly need a renovation. Overal opinion good. Friendly staff responing for your needs.

This hotel received some questionable reviews on some other travel websites I had looked at prior to my visit, so I had some reservations about staying here.

After having stayed there, I have no idea what people's complaints were. The rooms are very well kept with comfortable king beds and good AC. Ours had a view of the Patrona towers. The bathrooms were large and provided lotion, shampoo and soap. The bathroom walls were marble or similar. The TV in the room received about 10 channels incl. a movie channel.

Desk staff were very courteous and the concierge desk in particular was extremely helpful in providing feedback about the city and how to get around. We arranged for a day trip to Port Dickson with the concierge desk. The hotel tour was cheaper than privately hiring a driver for the day and our group was just my wife and myself, so we were able to visit numerous locations in PD at our leisure.

The hotel has an immense pool with a nice pool bar. During the week, the pool bar had happy hour from 6-8 PM with 2 for 1 drinks and that was much cheaper than any bar we visited while in KL. It made for relaxing moments sitting under cover at the pool bar and watching sunset over drinks to conclude the day before heading out for the evening.

I suppose the only complaint we might have is that the walls were rather thin and we could clearly hear people next door, but we've had that at many other hotels, as well.

We got this hotel for $50 US/night on Priceline, which is a very good value for the price.

After reading other reviews, we were worried about this hotel. However, in resonse to MillyHKs criticisms below I would respond:

1. Rooms in good condition and furnishings looking new
2. Huge tiled bathrooms with shower and bathtub
3. No insects at all in our room (East Wing 2007)
4. Towels fresh and changed daily
5. Face towels replaced daily.
6. Bedsheets as new
7. All bulbs working
8. Not sure about toothpaste, we bring our own
9. Complimentary water (2 bottles) daily
10. As 4
11. Agree about TV but there again, I did not travel 7,000 miles to watch TV.

This was a 4 night stop over on the way to Langkawi. Hotel is in an excellent position. Pool area and gym were very good and breakfast (at £7) were great value for money. 2 criticisms:
1. See first attached photo for view out of our room (We had requested a high floor to ensure a good view!)
2. Drink prices were extortionate. Small beer was 26MR + 15% - almost 30MR. This is the equivalent to over £4. Large beer was almost £7 !! Compare this to classy bar over the road and past the Tourist Information office. Small beer at 8MR draft Guiness for 14MR buy 2 get 1 free.
KL in general - excellent, very clean, great value for money (food, drink, taxis, sightseeing) and people VERY genuine.
For £40 per room per night, I cannot understand the criticisms on this site.

Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel

The Renaissance is a very big, impersonal hotel, but then again it would be hard to find anything else in KL. The place is really impressive though with a huge swimming pool on the 4th floor, classy restaurants and bars, and a top notch buffet breakfast. It is in a great location, only a 5 minute walk from the Petronas Towers, around the corner from the Hard Rock Cafe, and 15 minute walk to the KL Tower. The room was big and comfy, all you would expect from a high quality hotel.
