“Not the best place to stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2007

Me, my bestfriend and fiance stayed at Midah Hotel, KL, Malaysia for 4 days and 3 nights. The service was okay but the room was dirty. When we entered it, the first thing that we observed was the awful smell of the room, it was quite pungent like the carpet not being cleaned for many months. We had twin beds with an extra bed (which by the way, was not a roll- away bed but was a bed cushion)both had the smell of urine, the other one near the window had a stain on it! I could not even fathom what it was. The carpet was obviously not cleaned because there were dark marks on it.
The bathroom was more or less average, good thing the hot and cold water were both working.

For the breakfast, it was fine. The hotel had an array of different cuisines and we all liked the taste of the food (it was quite cold though).

I will not recommend this place to my colleagues.

Pronounced MEE-DAH. Definitely a budget hotel - but a good one I'd gladly visit again, even with my children in tow.

QUALITY, AMMENITIES, LOCATION
The Quality of the basic hotel features is fair to good. As a small footprint hotel, the ground floor lobby is much wider than it is long, with about 6 steps from the front door to the elevators and the front desk off to the far right and a small cafe/bar on the far left. It was nice of them to show the World Cup on the LCD Projector from 9pm onwards.
Beware the far left elevator, it only services the restaurant, Spa floor and function rooms. I couldn't get used to the elevator call buttons in the planter box, I kept looking on the wall for them. The elevator smelled of cigarettes, probably bcs some guests keep right on puffing while riding - the smell went away sometimes.
Our room was very spacious (king bed) with lots of space for an extra bed, shopping or ... horseplay. Ref was hidden in the cabinet under the TV but was not stocked. You do get complimentary bottles of water, and a hotpot, cups and some basic tea. I'd suggest you stock it yourself anyway. No room safe though.
The bathroom was spacious with a tub, toilet w/ handheld bidet and sink. Be careful getting out of the high-mounted tub, I'm 6 feet, and it was a stretch. As a word to management, change all the grout, shower curtain and maybe invest in "warmer" toilet seats.
The view on our side (elevator side) overlooked the nearby stadium and park.
The cleanliness in rooms is good and far better than in public areas. On our floor, there were some cigarette burns in the carpet as well as one huge one that looked suspiciously like an iron.

We didn't try the restaurant. We got a bit of a shock when we stepped out of the elevator and we were practically in the buffet line so turned around even before the doors closed. Also, we didn't avail of the Spa - we were intimidated with the arrangement - no front desk, no price list, dark surroundings and the rather brusk manner of the men "around the corner". I thought we stumbled upon the hideout of the Crazy 88's from Kill Bill. The price was quite high too, about 300 ringgit for a 45 minute massage. They didn't seem to want our business. In short, don't go to the Midah for the food or the spa.

The hotel's location is fairly good, in an area that at first seems intimidating but is actually just quiet and quite safe. About a 2 minute walk to the monorail station or a 10 minute walk to the LRT station at Pasar Seni and the nearest 7-11. The same 10 minutes gets you to Petaling Street or about 12 minutes to the Central Market. These are both great places to shop, but try to get to Petaling in the early evening since they close around 10pm and by midnight, the stragglers are a less inviting sight. Have no fear walking home late at night from Pasar Seni to the Midah - the headquarters of the traffic patrol is along the way (call it 4 minutes from the hotel - hence the safety) and even the dimly lit underpass nearby felt safe for the proximity of all those cops.

Shamelessly plugging our favorite eats, try Ristoran Hameed's, across from and along the way to the Pasar Seni station. We ate there 3 times and were sad our flight left too early for a 4th. It's better than the 2 places just 20 meters from the hotel and the exercise will do you good.

In terms of value, Miday is great and a better alternative than the other hotels which are closer to Petaling Street (perhaps a little too close).

This is a very pleasant hotel with large room and good view of the city. Even though I paid the lowest rate (RM99/nite)I got a king size bed on the 15th storey, cable TV and coffee/tea making facilities. The room also contains an armchair with footstool, hairdryer, dressing table, etc...But nothing in the fridge, you've got to buy your own beer somewhere else.

There are 3 eateries just 20-30 metres away selling local fare, cheap and nice.

The monorail station is just a very short walk away which I took to KL Sentral(2 stops). From there, you can connect to practically anywhere in KL, including the KTM train to Singapore. Upmarket Bangsar is also nearby.

Yes, I would definitely stay here again.

Coming towards the end of a 5 month trip I was on a pretty tight budget for the 4 days I was in Kuala Lumpur so wasn't expecting too much from Hotel Midah. I was however very impressed. The room was very large and had a king size bed. Good TV, fridge, kettle facilities and nice spacious bathroom. Room could have done with a lick of paint, but was clean and comfortable. Only bad thing was the cigarette smoke coming through the air conditioning vents, but the room more than made up for this. A newspaper was delivered every morning and you got two free bottles of mineral water everyday. There was a lack of usable plug sockets though! The rest of the hotel was very nice, good restaurant on the 6th floor, and cafe in the lobby. Staff all pleasant and helpful. Good location near Chinatown, and close to the metro, however, had to either cross a very busy 6 lane road to get to either of these, or take the road bridge, so wouldn't recommend to anyone not able to either run fast or climb stairs!! Would definetly stay here next time I visit KL. Excellent value for money.
