“A hotel where the happenings are abound”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2014

Federal Hotel is "the Hotel" for me when I am down in Kuala Lumper. For less than USD100.00 it is very convenience especially if you are looking for night life. It also one of the oldest hotel in the vicinity of Bukit Bintang. Mono rail stop nearby provide easy access to the hotel from KL Sentral.

We stayed at the Federal Hotel for 3 nights in March 2014. When I booked the hotel had paid for a triple bed room with a pool view, however ended up in a double room but on a higher floor.
The location is fantastic within walking distance to the shopping centres in the centre of KL.
Not sure that I would stay here again for the price, however the staff very obliging and wanting to help.

Room Tip: Make sure that you ask for a non smoking floor or you will end up on smoking one

We looked up this hotel on agoda.com and booked a night since it was on Bukit Bintang. We only made 2 requests that the room be on a higher floor and with a view. When we checked into the room the view was that of a wall on the interior side of the hotel - I called the front desk to request for a change but they abruptly declined saying they did not have any more rooms available - well, agoda.com was telling me there were still 4 rooms available at that special price. Huh! The icing on the cake was when I requested for a late check out around 1pm - the respondent told me to check out by 12.30. Well, we quietly moved out to JWM a few blocks away. Wouldnt suggest staying at this property.

Nothing great about this hotel except its location. The room is very old and tired looking. The toilet bowl becomes clogged during our stay (i remember same thing happened the last time i stayed here).

Famous Ah Lor street food just 5 mins walk away and shopping mall like Pavilion and Fahrenheit also 100-150 meters away.

Overall, this hotel is good for those travellers with budget.

Well i have to admit when me and my friends first went in we found the receptionist not that friendly and bored out of their brains everything else was great. We were worried after reading the bad reviews beforehand but thank god we got upgraded to the newer Merdeka Deluxe Room. The room was perfect, couldn't ask for anything more. Room service was great, i found the cleaning staff and gardener more friendly then the front desk.

Internet however wasn't that fast and kept disconnecting at times and the breakfast buffet is pretty boring, the food isn't that great and there's not much variety.

But yeah overall the hotel is pretty good and the shops are pretty much all in walking distance.

Room Tip: Get a room in the Merdeka black or request for one. I think most people complained about the rooms c...

This is my first time here. And despite stumbling on many bad feedbacks, we had a great stay.
We got the twin-sharing room. The room was clean and there is a bath tub (despite the web indicated no tub). The beds are comfy and the tv have a variety of channels. The room service was fantastic. Must try the Federal Satay. eventho it is RM25 for 5 sticks, it is jumbo sticks and worth every cents. It is also near shopping malls and massage palours. Taxis are easy to get too.

The downside, we got the window room facing the BBplaza and Lot10. The sounds from the pubs at night can be heard from our room at level 11. there was even fireworks on the saturday night at 1-2am. and there is a billboard at Lot10 opposite our room and the light from it is so glaring that it light up our room when the curtains are open.
