We stayed at this hotel on the 22nd of Feb for 3 nights.

We arrived and we were immediately taken up personally to the horizon club floor to check in. We sat down and I asked if it was possible that we had a view of the Petronas Towers, the helpful concierge then checked us in the told us "unfortunately" they had to upgrade us as there was horizon club rooms with a view so if it was OK they would put us in a suite on the 25th floor.

The room was lovely as you will see from the pictures and the staff could not have been more helpful.

We ordered room service on the first night as we were so tired we could not be bothered going out and it arrived as promised within 20 mins. For two main courses we were about £15 which by UK standard is very reasonable and the food was delicious.

In the morning we were served breakfast in the horizon club (free for the horizon club guests) which was lovely, although you do have the option to eat at the lemon garden which is downstairs. The selection was more than adequate for breakfast but there is more selection downstairs at the lemon garden.

Afternoon tea was served between 2 and 4 with lovely cakes, sandwiches and fruit. Almost enough for lunch!

Then in the evening free drinks are available along with a buffet from 6 until 8. The buffet is lovely and you help yourself to drinks. This saved us a lot of money as the drinks are quite expensive in the hotel, i think we were about £6 or £8 for a cocktail.

The hotel is about 10mins walk from the Petronas Towers and Suria KLCC which is the nicest shopping centre.

The second night we ate in the Starhill complex, reached by taxi in about 10mins (8 ringgit) in a Thai restaurant that the concierge recommended. Food was gorgeous and about £15 for 2 meals with starters, main courses and drinks.

The next night we ate in the Bombay Palace that the hotel recommended, which again was good but not excellent. Food again about £13 for starters, main courses and drinks. Just make sure your taxi driver knows where he is going first as ours got lost!

All in all, i would thoroughly recommend the hotel. KL is a lovely city and when we come back in the future we will definetly stay a this hotel.

We then moved on the Pelangi Beach at Langkawi and then the Shangri-La Tanjung Aru.

“If it's good enough for the Australian PM then it's good enough for us!”

Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur

What a smashing place to stay, as well located as any hotel in the city with attentive staff and very nice rooms. My wife, 4 year old daughter and I stopped off for a 3 nights enroute to Langkawi and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Get an upgrade to the Horizon Club rooms which occupy the top 5 floors; a separate check-in and very pleasant lounge area with superb views across the city. The Horizon package includes breakfast, afternoon tea and early evening drinks in the exclusive lounge area. The hotel appeared to be popular with executives but us humble tourists were made to feel very welcome. There is a pool and various restaurants which cater for most tastes though frankly the city has far more interesting places to eat, one of which is the Beach Bar, immediately opposite the hotel which, though it appeared to be a haunt for western men seeking female companionship has a separate eating area with a great of food and a reasonable price (we felt quite comfortable taking our little girl there). The Horizon Club rooms are spacious, comfortable, clean and well equipped, which are of course important factors. We stayed again on our return from Langkawi and discovered that the Australian PM, John Howard, was also staying at the hotel along with his entourage. On the morning of our departure a red carpet had been rolled out which amused us and impressed our daughter who felt sure it was for her! So if it’s good enough for the Aussie PM it’s sure good enough for us! When we return to KL again we’ll make a beeline for the Shangri-La.

We stayed at the Shangri-La Hotel for 4 nights on our way to Koh Lanta in Thailand. From the moment you walk into the hotel you are welcomed by the fantastic entrance and reception hall, which carry's on through to the bedrooms. The rooms are very clean and towels and complimentary toiletries are replaced everyday. The beds are turned down every night and flowers or chocolates are left on the beds for you. Great touch. The hotel pool is immaculate and perfect after a days sight seeing. The hotel bar has an excellent pint of Guinness and has a very friendly atmosphere. The staff are all very pleasant and helpful.
We have stayed in many hotels before and the breakfast is something my husband and I look forward to the most (best part of the day before a days sight seeing) All I can say about the breakfast at the Shangri-La is OUTSTANDING! I have never seen anything like it before there is something for every one of all tastes, there is that much choice you would think you were at an evening meal rather than breakfast. Everything is fresh and excellently presented. My daughter fell in love with the chocolate fountain and fresh fruit. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting KL and would definitely stay there again.

We stayed at the Sangri-La in LK for 4 days. The lobby area is very grand, but this does not follow through to the bed rooms - they are well past their sell by! We tried two different rooms (because the first one was so noisey from the bars outside until 3 in the morning), and both were very tired, carpets were dirty, cracks in the wash basin and dirt in the old sealant around the bath, the drab brown furnishings were marked and the wooden furniture slightly bashed. The rooms are a real let down.
However, the hotel offers a good choice of restaurants and all the food we had was excellent. The staff are pleasant and well informed. The swimming pool is nice too. It's just such a pity about the rooms.
