The Shangri La Hotel is one of the many tower hotels in Malaysia's capitol. It works very well, efficient, friendly and comfortable. During our stay there was some repair work going on outside, but they have to do it sometime and it didn't worry us.
The decoration is 'Sainsbury's Pharonic', soaring ceilings, marble and alabaster, dark wood.
We were greeted, checked in and installed in our room (also upgraded) quickly, and had a choice of five restaurants for dining.
Rooms are modern and cosy with tubs AND showers. Views differ, as you might expect with 700 rooms, and you can walk to the Petronas Towers in about 15 minutes, although the hotel taxi rank is a cooler option.
Our first stay was for 6 nights, and then another 3 nights later on, both very enjoyable.

The hotel itself was excellent and the service was first-class. The check-in was smooth and quick.

The room was spatious, clean and with a nice view. Bathroom was also quite nice and with everything we needed.

The brekafast was really great wit lots of choices and variety. Everything felt fresh and the healthy choices were also tasty (which is not always the case).

Despite my travel agent informing me that exterior renovation would be completed on the 17th December, on arrival I discovered that this was far from the truth. There was scaffolding erected around the hotel with some external areas inaccessible due to work areas being cordoned off. (I have to state that the scaffolding and site safety would not satisfy UK safety legislation.) In addition, to relax around the pool during the day was impossible due to the construction and the pneumatic picks that were being used. I was also concerned that people working above the pool areas in gondolas and tower scaffolding presented a hazard to the people around the pool as anything dropped would inevitably cause serious injury to the people below, and despite the working areas around the pool being cordoned off, this did not offer complete protection to the people below. Now for the positives. I found this hotel extremely well run and the interior was well presented in all aspects. The staff were extremely friendly and our room was spotless and well maintained. The location of the hotel is ideal with monorail and shopping areas easily accessible. The Petronas Towers and KL tower are only a short walk away. The rate I paid was reasonable and included breakfast, however, seeing kids gorging themselves at the chocolate fountain at 8am in the morning was a little offputting! One particular aspect of the decor of the hotel was the fantastic pictures located throughout the hotel and the room. I fully understand that to keep high standards that maintenance and upgrading is inevitable and we unfortunately were at the hotel at the wrong time, however, this hotel is top notch and I hope that this review will not dissuade visitors fro staying at the Shangri-La in the future. I would have no hesitation in returning at a later date. I have rated my stay as above average, however, without the construction, it would have been full marks.

We stayed at The Shangri-La jAN 08 and found it there was a lot of work being carried out to the exterior of the building, cladding work drilling with hoists going up and down outside your hotel room window. This was not mentioned when we booked.
The pool was surrounded by scaffolding not what we expected.
Inside however the service was as you would expect to perfection and all served up with a smiling face.
Just be aware if you detest building work as this is likely to go on for a few months!
