5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

We visited Malaysia for 3 days from the 22nd nov. Overall our experience was excelent. The Hotel stay at Furama Bukit Bintang was wonderful and the friendly staff made a big difference. We arrived in the morning to the Hotel and they had a room ready for us thanks to Mr D'cruz. This made a great difference to us especially after working till the 9th hour and catching a late night flight. The deluxe room was spacious and very comfortable and it was a surprise to find our own lounge and office area. The wi-fi was very fast and was complimentary with the deluxe room.

The breakfast Buffet was excellent but it did not help our waistline. Anwar in charge of the concierge was very helpful and extremely efficient. Gave us a lot of tips on shopping and tours and organised all the taxis for us.

We found that the hotel was quite strategically located, with walking distance to Times square and Low Yat shopping mall where we got quite good bargains. Also a tip for vegetarians (like me) there is a exclusive vegetarian restaurant in the Low Yat food court with a 4 page menu of vege dishes! The other malls including the petronas towers were just 15-20min taxi ride from hotel. However make sure you avoid rush hour as the traffic can be horrendous!

Given the limited time we had we only managed to squeeze in a few tours. One was Malaysia by night. I honestly feel that the real value of the package was the cultural show and dinner buffet. We paid 180RM for the tour but if you are on a budget you can buy tickets for that for around 70RM at Restaron Seri Melayu.

Overall our experience in Malaysia was wonderful, the people were very friendly, food was amazing and our Hotel stay at Furama Bukit bintang was very enjoyable and we highly recommend it.

I stayed at the Furama Bukit Bintang between 20-22nd November for a conference, which was also in the same hotel. I had booked an Executive Suite and stayed in 2505. I had arrived early at around 1000 hrs and could check in immediately, even though the check in time was 1400 hrs.

About the room: The room was spacious, with living room, a small work desk and a minibar. The bedroom was also good. There was nothing much in the minibar, but was not a problem as at there was access to the Lounge for all day snacks and juices.

Bathroom: The bathroom was a let down. The shower area was too small, the shower was partly clogged and therefore the water low was not uniform. The area near the drain and between the tiles, were not cleaned properly and there was mold growth at several places. The bathroom amenities were upmarket.

The view: The room had a poor view. The room was not the ones facing the Twin Towers and there was nothing much to see from the room.

Food: I had breakfast at the Executive lounge itself. Breakfast for me was just normal continental stuff, as I am a vegetarian. But it was not crowded and I could have a nice view of the Twin Towers during breakfast.

For dinner, I went to the Spices restaurant. There were about 4 items for vegetarians and were ok. My major problem on the first day of visit to the restaurant was that the water they served looked very risky. It was cloudy with faintly visible things floating in. I had to then order bottled water which was quite expensive. The food was quite alright.

Staff: The hotel staff were courteous and helpful. The concierge staff at the entry of the hotel who get taxis for guests seem to have some arrangement with the taxi drivers. Though the taxis are supposed to be operated by meter, the ones from the hotel are sort of fixed rate and priced much higher than the usual meter rate. But getting taxis otherwise from near the hotel is difficult given its location.

Overall: The hotel is new, but looks a bit run down. The hotel management needs to pull up on the maintenance of the property. Scratches and patches on doors, walls and the lifts are very much visible.

Room Tip: Look for rooms with view of the Twin Towers, the ones on the other side have nothing to be viewed.

Dear Mr Pradeep,

Thank you for your constructive feedback with regards to your recent stay at Furama Bukit Bintang.

The shortcomings you experienced will provide us a great opportunity to further strengthen our service standards and close the loopholes. We have started our maintenance preventive scoop to give our rooms a fresher feeling.

Besides that, I'm glad that you've enjoyed your stay with us & we certainly are looking forward in welcoming you back should your future visits brings you back to Kuala Lumpur.

Kind regards.

Right across from Times Square and about 10 min walk to Bukit Bintang Walking Street or 5 min walk to Imbi Monorail. I stayed in Junior Suite which was very nice and comfortable. Includes all typical amenities such as robes and slippers. Rooms boasts satellite/cable tv and fridge. Pool area is very nice with plenty of sunshine. The gym is extremely well appointed for a 4 star hotel (I was very impressed). No free wifi (not even in lobby). 30$ gets you 24 hours of internet from time of first login. Staff was professional but unfriendly. I had "breakfast included" which was convenient but also crazy busy every morning, extremely loud and food quite mediocre. Hotel seemed to have elevators issues as when it gets busy the 4 lifts don't work logically. Many occasions I had to wait at least 10 minutes to get a ride down. Also no ice machines on floors (a bit inconvenient... especially in a 4 star hotel) so have to call room service for a bucket.

We stayed at the Furama recently. The room has everything you need and it is a nonsmoking hotel. The rooms are a little tired for a fairly new hotel, but not dirty: more just needing wallpaper and some tiling redone. They are clean and serviced every day. Front desk staff are really helpful and the buffet breakfast was well set out. I would happily stay here again as it was very well priced. The gym was pretty much empty every day I used it.

Location is great as you can easily walk to Imbi where the Berjaya times square mall is and ofcourse the monorail station.

As for the hotel, the staff are not particularly eager to help. Dont bother with the concierge who seemed clueless when it came to restaurants and tried to sell us a day trip to the FRIM for 250R per person when one can make it there and back using train and taxi for less that 15R each!

Rooms and breakfast are okay.

Dear Mambofiti,

Thank you for taking the time to post this review following your stay at Furama Bukit Bintang

We are glad to heart that you're pleased with the hotel location which is close by major shopping malls and easy access to the monorail public service.

I apologise for any disconcerted feelings caused regarding the tour booking to FRIM with our concierge. I have took the liberty to check on this matter personally as our prices are competitive with the other 4 star hotels in Kuala Lumpur and it’s important to us that our guests feel that they receive value for money.

FRIM is a very nice reserved forest in Malaysia and the hotel does arrange a full day tour amounts to RM270 per person. This includes a proper trained guide, two ways transfers and entrance fee of RM80 per person. This is a full day (8 hours) that allows one to really enjoy the flora & fauna in nature.

The charges for metered taxi's are between RM35-RM40 per way as it takes approximately 30-45 minutes drive from the hotel which I'm very surprised that you manage to obtain a price of RM15.

We certainly value your feedback. It would be our pleasure to welcome you once again to Furama Bukit Bintang and be given the opportunity to restore your faith in us.

Sincerely,

Gerry D'Cruz

Really great hotel! When we arrived, they updated us for free to a room on the 17th floor. The breakfast was great (lots of different fruits, warm food, salads, cakes...). The room was very clean and the stuff was so friendly. I also liked the place. You can take the Monorail or walk into the city (it's not far but there are many cars and so it's not so nice).
We would definately come back!
