“Very nice and clean hostel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

Also the shared showers and toilets are very clean here. The stuff welcomes you with a smile and helps you with every question you ve got! The location is near chinatown and some meters away the gratis sightseeing bus of kl has a station. Enjoy wifi all over the hostel and a nice breakfast at the restaurant. Prices are very valued for this hostel!

Frankly, i just like this place for the cleanest, design and the comfort but 1 thing i cant accept is the bedbug is found in my room. I had an experience from previous place 2 years ago. It is really make me suffer. So this time i get thru it again. If not this place is just perfect.

I chose this hotel based on the good reviews i've read and its very convenient location, but it turned out to be very disappointing and somewhat frustrating, even to a backpacker who's used to budget accommodation. The hotel is divided into 'pods' which don't have walls that fully extend to the ceiling but terminate slightly above the halfway mark. This means that there is no proper soundproofing and lights that are turned on in other pods will light up yours too. The result - lack of quality sleep. The switches for the lights and fans in each pod are located outside the pod at the entrance door, so you'll have to move in and out to make adjustments, which is an inconvenience. Bunk pods which accommodate 4 'podders' have only two power points - some very bad planning and design there. The bed, pillow and bedsheets, while not dirty, did feel somewhat dusty (I was quite ok with this though and it's not a complaint, just a mere statement). There are lockers to keep your belongings but the catch is you'll need to use your own lock, which is stupid because not every traveller would bring one. Wifi is available only at the main lobby; you are cut off from connectivity jn your own pod. 'Creative' signs and posters are put all around the building in an attempt to make it lively (the toilets have guides on various types of flatulence and excretion styles), but due to me already being pissed by all of the above, I (personally) felt irritated by these posters and thought them to lame and miserable attempts at humour instead.

With all that said, PODs does have its strengths as well. The best one being its location, just a few minutes away from KL Sentral, the hub and meeting point of the many means of transport in the city. The staff were excellent too; friendly and helpful. The shower rooms were clean and the showers were functioning well with efficient heaters. Free breakfast is provided (though in my case I can't call it a strength as I didn't personally try it out).

Still, when assessed through point-by-point comparison and personal satisfaction upon checking out, its strengths are far outweighed by its weaknesses, and especially heavy weight is put on the PODs concept. Personally, I'd recommend a proper, compartmentalised, walled-up room. It's truly a pain to wake up in the middle of the night due to light, sound or whatever stimuli emanating from another pod.

I have been shuttling from Melaka to Kuala Lumpur during weekends for a course since Jan 2013, due to financial restriction, decided to stay at backpackers. I tried 3 different places and found Pods has everything I look for. It is cheap, rates from MYR 28 - MYR 65 if I not mistaken. I booked the cheapest, female dorm. The place easy to find, clean, quite and it is safe. All guests are given key card which granted access to every place inside the Pods. It is clean, I like the fact that they have rules that no foods and drinks allowed in the dorm. Plus, with such a low price, guests can have free flow filtered water, simple breakfast and drinks at the reception lobby. On my 1st visit, I decided this is the place to stay until the end of the course in May 2013.

I can imagine that people might be let down by the single pod because its not really a private room. I however, had no problem at all. The staff so nice and very helpful. Extremely easy to go any where in the city from their location. Showers are hot and the toilets are western standard. What more could you want from a Hostel? My only problem was the Air Con. I was able to turn it off my last night because I was the only one in my area of the floor.
It would be good if they figure a way to keep Air Con at 30 and just have people use fans and open windows

This place is completely overrated. It is located about 20 meters away from the red light district and it is extremely loud in the evenings.

If you're booking a private room, there is no use because though there are walls, there is no ceiling to block out the noises from the outside. I was woken up several times because there is no soundproofing in this place at all.

You have to make you own bed and the day I went they were out of towels. 10PM the street downstairs gets loud and so do the crowd. I heard Gangnam style play literally 5 times. Had to take sleeping pills to fall asleep.

Did I mention this place is in the red light district. Just walk around the street (or maybe you shouldn't) and you'll see hungry men queuing up for their lady (-ies) of the night.

The only positive thing was that the people working the reception area are nice. Other than that, this is probably the most uncomfortable experience I've ever had with a hostel.

Room Tip: No need to get a private room. It's not worth it.

We stayed here for 2 nights. It's very green! The staff are friendly, the rooms are a little small but full of character! Everything is clean. It's a great location if you need to get to or from the airport at a ridiculous hour or to the train station. The common area is great with computer, bean bags, board games, books and breakfast. The only bad thing was that our room didn't have a curtain to shield us from the enormous window overlooking the street - we ended up taping one of our blankets over it. I would stay here again.
