“Pretty good, but could still be improved”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2013

I debated for quite some time whether a hotel could be worth the premium over the standard 5* offerings in KL. Whilst Villa Samdhi doesn’t offer all the amenities of a large hotel, it definitely makes up for with personal touches. Having only a handful of rooms, the staff were quick to get to know you, and were all very polite. You could certainly feel the difference over a large hotel.

-My room was spacious, with a comfortable bed with a nice Jacuzzi on the terrace.
-Wonderful staff, whom were quick to react and good at accommodating needs
-Free cocktail hour in the rooftop bar between 6.30-7.30. I didn’t see this advertised, so was happy to find it happening
-Brilliant and high quality breakfast by the pool
-Minibar prices were reasonable, and there was a good choice of tea and coffee, plus a generous fruit plate.
-Turndown service chocolates were tasty

-Both towels in my room were so threadbare that they had gaping holes in them. I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels around the world, and these were by far the tattiest towels I’d ever been offered. When I mentioned this to the front desk, the one I had used was replaced with a new non-holey one, but the other wasn’t checked, and was left there (I later found it also to be holey). Please, buy some proper towels!
-the pool area was nice with the loungers and rolled towels, but there were a lot of leaves in the pool, which gave it an air of unkemptness.
-the Jacuzzi in the room has unchangeable on/off times. It would be much better for the guest, and more environmentally conscious for people to choose their own times for using their private Jacuzzi, rather than having it run when it’s not wanted, and off when it is.
-there is a little minibar in the room with soft drinks and beer. The only glasses on offer were very long stemmed wine glasses (and three at that). Rather odd!
-A major bugbear of mine in hotels around the world is lighting. Sadly, I cannot rate Samadhi highly here. There were so many switches and dimmers, I couldn’t work out what was what. It was very frustrating flicking all these switches to try and work out if they worked/what they did. To confound things, some areas had a choice of 3 or 4 lighting options (e.g. the entrance portico), whilst some had none (e.g. the bar area).
-the balcony had some furniture on, but nothing comfy to relax on. There was a wooden sofa/bench thing, and a matching chair, but the table that clearly should have gone in between was missing.

Overall, I was happy with my stay. The negatives were annoying, but most can be easily fixed. I’m pretty sure I will return one day, hopefully after they’ve thrown out all their old threadbare towels.

I stayed here for a night at the end of November and what a special find. Away from the commotion of the city, Villa Samadhi provides a relaxing retreat in KL. We were given a warm welcome by Cherie and her team to include some refreshing ginger tea and cold towels. The pool which is at the heart of the hotel is surrounded by seating areas (whether on your private balcony or elsewhere) providing plenty of space to relax and enjoy the calmness. Rooms all varied and unique but very spacious. The ones with direct access to the pool are fabulous – you can climb down a little step ladder. Rooms are well-appointed with big comfy beds, luxurious toiletries, rain shower and hot tub. Food was delicious and I especially enjoyed the complimentary sunset cocktails and a refreshing G & T. The staff were very welcoming and smiley and at hand to help with any requests. Would also recommend heading to the hotel’s sister restaurant Tamarind Springs. There is a complimentary shuttle to the restaurant which is about a 20-minute drive away. The jungle like setting is idyllic and the food superb.

An amazing peaceful oasis in the middle of the city. Fantastic contemporary Asian decor. Wonderful staff. Good food. A very unique experience. If you are on vacation and want something different and memorable, definitely skip the big hotels and stay here. Lots of free extras like internet, laundry, big breakfast, cafe lattes, fresh juices, and DON'T miss the free happy hour with the most amazing fresh fruit cocktails mixed to perfection with the most unique flavors. And the lounging pool is an 'outdoor living space' paradise!!

Our last retreat was about 4 years ago, so I decided it was time to take my significant other for another special weekend, away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. After some quick research, I was convinced Villa Samadhi was the right choice, and right I was!

This little gem of a resort is hidden right off the beaten track at the heart of KL. It's hard to believe that it's not that far away from the dreaded Jalan Tun Razak (and it's epic traffic jams!). Of course, it's surrounded on all sides by embassies of a multitude of countries. If you get lost getting there, just look for the Libyan Embassy, and you're there.

Right, about our one-night stay. It was perfect in every way! The manager Cherie and her staff were courteous and went beyond their way to make our time at Villa Samadhi a truly amazing one. Of course, we have to credit Roco, the cuddly resident labrador, for stealing our hearts. He is such a sweetheart!

The room was splendid and appointed with every creature comfort imaginable. The balcony/lanai - which opens up directly to the pool - is one highlight. And so is the generous bath area which includes a jacuzzi and a magnificent rain shower.

Yes, we were won over. And yes, we are going back again!

My wife and I stayed here after spending a week in KL and then a week in Langkawi before returning for a weekend in KL prior to flying home. We were disappointed. Really disappointed. The welcome was slow and a bit weird. I'm not sure if they're aiming for quirky but they've ended up with something closer to uncomfortable. Immediately upon arrival the staff were a little too casual and familiar. Service in the pool bar was painfully slow.

The room... Ah, the room. Again, they may have been aiming for quirky but they hit weird once more. Some bizarre choices made in the layout. For example, the bathroom had an entire wall of glass and wood pillars (with no shutters or blinds) that afforded unfettered viewing upon entry through the front door of the room. The toilet, which was not enclosed, was placed perfectly so that anyone making use of said facility was presented like a prized piece of art under spotlight... Very romantic. The "hot tub" was actually a mini swimming pool and was lukewarm at best. Strangely though, this lack of toastiness in the tub didn't stop it acting as a giant heater, battling with the wimpy air conditioning to keep the room uncomfortably hot and humid. I would have remedied the situation by turning off the tub but, again for reasons I never could fathom, there were no controls. The tub was on a timer that turned on the jets twice for a couple of hours every night and that couldn't be changed. The 2nd of these two spells was particularly irritating as it ran until 11pm, meaning we had to either stay up past 11 or try to sleep next to the loud, rumbling, steam-spouting beast. The one benefit of this noisy leviathan was that it almost blocked out the noise of the gate. Our room was right next to the front gate, which was motorised and ran on rollers that sounded as if they'd never seen a spot of grease in their life. Every time someone came or went the gate squeaked its way open, then squeaked its way closed. This screaming mouse concerto went on most of the night, waking us every single time.

Restful? Not even slightly. I got more sleep on the plane.

My boyfriend and I had a fantastic weekend in KL, which was really enhanced by our stay at Villa Samadhi. Despite, *ahem* serious issues in finding the place (note: tell all taxi drivers to head to the US Embassy - most have no idea where this hotel is) we throughally enjoyed a peaceful and relaxing retreat after a day of exploring the busy and eclectic city that is KL.
The luxe crib rooms are beautiful and very romantic, perfect for a couple, and therefore you might feel a little uncomfortable as a solo traveller. Breakfast was served in the lovely setting of the restaurant and was delicious!
The main highlight is the complimentary cocktails and canapes on the roof terrace bar in the evenings - I recommend the special G&T!
It's exceptionally well hidden, but then all the more special when you find it!

Room Tip: Luxe Crib rooms have a beautiful jacuzzi and rain shower. Much more private than the standard rooms...

Well I've given a 4 for Cherie, convenient location and size of rooms. The disappointment is that everything is just a little shabby. I know it is a fine line between shabby and chic and perhaps VS is ok by KL standards.
