“Great Help”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

great location, even though we got a little lost finding the place, that was our fault. clean but a little hot as the a/c was set too high. much better than the past few hostels we have stayed in. the guys who work here are really helpful. the double room is small but clean.

This place was really highly rated and I expected more. It was cheap but not that cheap, and we paid extra to get a room with air conditioning. When we got into the room (which, as others have also said, was like a barracks and not at all homely) we found that although our air conditioning WAS on, it was set at 25 degrees and there was no remote. On asking reception, we were told the whole hostel was set at 25 so we didn't need to adjust ours, and anyway if we put ours any lower the aircon would leak, and it would be our fault! Anyway, we couldn't get to sleep that night because a) it was stiflingly hot (aircon isn't aircon unless you can set it about 20 IMHO) and b) someone was skyping in the corridor until after midnight very loudly. Finally, I gave up and went to ask if we could put our aircon down: after the same dubious excusing about dripping, the staff member finally came up and set it to 23 before taking the remote away again. After a bad nights sleep we woke to find that the aircon hadn't dropped at all.

If they advertise aircon, they need to provide it. Saying it will leak turns out to have been a lie presumably to save them money, even though they charge extra for it. And if the aircon really had been leaking, then they need to FIX it or not charge for it.

Really poor, don't go.

I found IRSIA hostel actually clean, friendly with very reasonable price in heart of Kuala lumpur city center beside Times Square shopping center and very close to the klcc and pavilion. there is a warm and lovely environment which is attracted tourists from all nationalities. I strongly suggest IRSIA Hostel B&B to all the tourists who intend to stay at city center and looking for reasonable and safe place.

I booked the place from Booking.com and that was a breeze - we got a confirmed booking by providing a credit card detail.

I stayed at Irsia for 1 night in early Sep and really liked it. The first thing that strikes you is that it is right behind the Berjaya Times Square tower - a great location and just 2 mins of walking to the IMBI monorail station (that monorail connects you to the KL Sentral station which would connect you to nearly everywhere in KL, and outside using the KTM (intercity) network). And the Berjaya Times Square tower is a HUGE shopping mall with lots and lots of shops, and most won't pinch your wallet so much :-)

The second thing I was bowled over by was the fancy and quirky interiors and the great cleanliness. You are required to leave your footwear at the entrance and the entire place, including the lobby, reception, rooms is carpeted ensuring the cleanliness. The doors are all painted bright, in the flags of various countries and the other decoration would remind you of your child's nursery :-)

It took about 30 mins for our room to be ready (we were early!) but that was no problem - we enjoyed a cup of coffee (complimentary, self made and served) in the garden and chit chatted. The Wi-Fi is good in common areas but just not strong enough in the rooms. But that's ok.

The kitchen at the end of the ground floor lobby is basic and allows you to prepare coffee, tea or heat stuff in the microwave. There's a hot water dispenser that is handy when you need a hot cup of noodles. As with hostels, you clean your own dishes. The breakfast, served in the garden, is basic fare of white bread toast (you toast 'em yourself) and butter/jam and coffee/tea and some fruits. Not bad, not awesome either. Just enough to get you kick-started.

The bathrooms and toilets are again simple and clean. There are a couple at each floor so there are few chances of getting stuck.

The best part is the owner - he stays there, is a young Iranian gentleman and is most helpful when you need help with directions or with general life stories. He even helped us carry our bags from the taxi into the hostel. Neat! The philosophy is painted right behind the small reception desk - good thoughts, good words, good deeds.

Room Tip: All rooms are ok - small and clean.

I've stayed in Irsia couple of nights... The location was great right in the golden Triangle in Kuala Lumpur, very close to the Monorail station which was linked to the happening places. The staff were so nice and kind always smiling. The rooms and bathrooms were clean. We were able to sit in their beautiful garden and have a nice chat with the other guests and the staff as well. You will get more than you are paying there with perfect services. Surely I will stay there again if I wanted to visit Kuala Lumpur.

Stayed in a triple room with air con. Comfortable beds, good location just behind berjaya Times Square shopping centre, monorail station right there. Included breakfast was smile but satisfying.
Only negative was we paid reception 95RM for a taxi to the airport but the driver only got 75RM so hotel took a bug cut. Would be better to organise one yourself outside the shopping centre.

our double room was basic but clean, and shared toilet and showers were also really clean! nice quirky decor and it was so quiet at night, we barely heard a sound out of the other people staying there. the highlight is the staff who are friendly and welcoming :)
