“Trying hard to be a great hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2010

I really liked this hotel and in most respects it was a five star experience. The ambience has much more of an authentic Malaysian feel to it than many of the other bland five star brands and it does so much so well. I found the service first class, the breakfast was wonderful and the pool area was beautiful. My room was immaculate with the exception of the shower which was blocked and had hairs backing up from the drain. Also the sink could not be plugged so you had to run water continuously to keep water in it. I have to hope this was an aberration and the high standards in the rest of the hotel applied to the other rooms. I only stayed hereon night so it's hard to know how quickly the plumbing issues might have been fixed but I'd go back for the combination of location, value and and otherwise high standards this hotel offers.

We stayed for 4 nights from 12/08 onwards. Our flight arrived quite early in the morning and we called to see if a room was available on our way from the airport. We were advised that a room would be available which it was at 8.30AM for which we were not charged any extra. We were even upgraded.

The breakfast is excellent with a massive variety of foods to suit all people.

The rooms were clean and spacious especially the bath rooms which were great.

The hotel has a number of restaurants but we found it very hard to find them due to the hotels size but also due to lack of advertisement, I don't think the hotel does enough to promote its in house dining options.

That would be my only negative feedback of my entire stay. We are in fact going back for 3 days at the end of our trip next week.

Great position close to shopping malls.
Average room with good facilities and comfy bed.
Lovely public areas and pool.
Fabulous breakfast - lovely atmosphere sitting out on the deck looking over the garden.
Great value at AUD $100 for deluxe room including breakfast
Freindly staff who gave us an early check in after an overnight flight - much appreciated :)

Loved this hotel. Beautiful building, great breakfast, the dinner international buffet while not cheap is very good value. Daud Alias at the entrance provided excellent service and entertaining, informative conversation.

Went to the Royal Chulan Hotel for 7 nights on Aug 8,and had one of the best stays in any hotel. We arrived 9.00 AM on a Sunday morning, unfortunately our rooms wasn't ready but they provided a temp room with 2 single beds for 4 hours. Our rooms were ready at 2 PM,and they looked as good as we imagined.Bathroom was huge and well appointed, bed was large and firm.Breakfast was top notch and the service was excellent. We used the basement carpark to get out of the hotel because the back and side doors where locked most of the time.Pool is large with many layback chairs, only wish the pool was a bit deeper.Airconditioning in the room was noisy but I turned it off at night to sleep.10 minute walk to the Pavillion for food and coffee,15 min walk to the corner of BB Plaza to change money.I would stay there again in a flash especially if it was $80 to $90 a night.

Booked a room here for one night as a treat at the end of a 2 week tour round Malaysia - an online deal at £50/night. Rooms are gorgeous. Service excellent. Breakfast buffet is stunning. Huge pool. It really is a 5 star hotel. Location is great for the Golden Triangle area (Petrona Towers/designer shops/plush shopping centre/food court) Heading down to Little India or the Chinese district is a bit of hassle via public transport but easy via taxi. Recommended.

From KL Central it's Monorail to Bukit Bintang or Chulan - and a 5-10 minute wallk,

we stayed at The Royala Chulan 3 nights. When we arrived we found the room not very clean but after inform the reception the room was perfectly cleaned, we found flowers, a basket of fruits and a letter of apologies from the house keeper. The rooms on the swiming pool size are noises because there is a bar where made a lot of celebration, wedding, etc. Good location, room and bath very big
