“A Beautiful view from the hotel room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2011

We stayed there on 1st Sep which it was holiday day in KL, so there were many people around China town where the hotel located. The hotel was located in a good position in china town and can walk around 10 minutes to monorail. We stayed on 13th floor which can see KL tower, Twin tower and China town; also there was very wonderful view from towers lights at the night.

The room was good, clean, very comfortable, with flat TV in room, and free internet Wifi.

The restaurant for breakfast should be more lighten as it was gloomy and felt tight.

There is one thing I was wondering for taxi there, we asked at the reception guy to call us a taxi meter to Subang Airport. But he said the taxi will not go by meter if we are tourist, and the price almost 60RM. So we decide to go by bus (U81) which just 2.5RM per person, we took the bus from station which nearby monorail station at china town. The bus was new and clean takes time around 30 mins to the airport.

Room Tip: Choose a top floor on the left side of the hotel, you can see beautiful view from KL tower and Twin...

The hotel is in a really good spot right by Chinatown. It's easy to get to without using taxis (as are all Chinatown hotels) by taking the train from the airport (shuttle bus first from LCCT) to Central, 1 stop on the LRT (to Pasar Seni) and then a 5 min walk along Jalan Sultan which leads straight from the LRT before bending left to the hotel.
The hotel reception is clean and modern looking, which gives a slightly false representation of the rest of the hotel. The staff were friendly and efficient. In particular the hotel porter who gave us some very useful inside tips on getting around and shopping. Saved us quite a lot!
We had a high room (12th floor) which was surprisingly spacious as well as being clean with a good size walk-in shower. The only issue was the aircon low and mid buttons weren't working. Despite the high floor it was still a little noisy - the rooms are not double glazed - but nothing to interrupt sleep. The room furniture and decor is all basic and a bit faded.
The breakfast was very limited and not great.
Overall if all you need is a place to sleep then this hotel is perfectly decent, well located and ok value of what you get.

I had the good fortune to find the 5 Elements hotel purely by chance as I was looking for a tour to go to Taman Negara park and the Han Tours leave from the 5 Elements. This is a quality reasonably priced hotel in the middle of the very vibrant Chinatown/Petaling street area of KL. For walkers it is perfectly situated to access all of Kls areas either via Bus, Light Rail, or Monorail. I stayed at the hotel on three separate occasions during my stay and used it as a base to explore various areas of Malaysia. The front office staff and especially the GM Mr. Michael Leong made me feel at home at the 5 Elements and I am convinced they do this for all their guests. Some comments in other reviews talk about plumbing difficulties and the quality of the breakfast, but all this is overshadowed by the kindness and attitude of the GM and his staff. I certainly will make the 5 Elements my home away from home. I was traveling solo and can't wait to bring my wife with me on the next trip. See next year!

Good basic hotel with spacious rooms. The bathrooms has some plumbing issues. Breakfast was very sad.

The same menu on all the days we stayed there. In the heart of China Town which is known for its night shopping.

This hotel is great. It's right across the road from Chinatown which is brilliant.

The hotel does not have a pool but the rooms are big and clean and the location is superb.

One receptionist that we met was extremely helpful and informative. He acted almost as a tour guide to the city for us.

Overall the hotel is great. It made for a lovely stay in this fantastic city.

This was my third stay at the 5 Elements hotel and probably not my last. The hotel is in good condition and clean, the staff helpful and friendly. There are plenty of places to eat and the hotel is just outside the Petaling st night market.

I liked my stay at this hotel despite the fact that I thought it was too expensive. It can't be faulted for location, in the midst of Chinatown, close to markets, great food, nightlife and also within easy access to all parts of KL. The room was comfortable and quite roomy, clean, and with everything you would need supplied, although it was not luxurious.

It is probably not the place to stay if you want somewhere very quiet, however there are great views from most rooms, both of the KL skyline and whatever is happening in Chinatown.

The staff on the desk we found to be exceptionally helpful, everything was ready when we arrived to check in to our pre-booked room, it is possible to leave luggage there, and they will arrange taxis at very reasonable prices. There was no hard sell or attempts to talk us into tours or extra sightseeing etc.

The main downside was the breakfast - very poor selection of food, nothing much for vegetarians or for people who did not want a western breakfast. Mostly the food was not kept very warm and there were very few condiments available, for example one of the dishes was congee but no chilli or even soy sauce to give it any flavour. They offered tomato sauce only. After the first morning we ate outside the hotel, as there are plenty of places nearby.
All in all, however, the Five Elements is a good hotel and we would stay there again. Hopefully they will improve the breakfast in the future.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the street arcan be quite noisy
