“Delucca is like a relationship with a destined partner - you slowly discover the good stuff”
Changkat Bukit Bintang – the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Never a place will I ever consider going, let alone wine and dine at nine. I was dragged by my best friend to Changkat once and that pretty much confirmed my disliking further for that area – not a fan of noisy places and rowdy surroundings. Perhaps, I’ve yet to appreciate the authenticity of KL night spots.
And one fine Friday night, I was asked to try a place downtown – Delucca. I was rather hesitant but was craving for a different kind of Friday night. I went there with my best friend, Alison. She was surprised at my suggestion. Well, thanks to my new found friend, Ben – my favorite guy in 2012. Ben’s special, thoughtful, funny, creatively workaholic and the sweetest guy I’ve ever known, really.
Turned out, Delucca is located at the quieter street of Changkat area – opposite No Black Tie. It usually takes me a few visits to get familiar with the scene but my first night at Delucca was like love at first sight. I was overwhelmed by the ambience, the people, the staff, the service and especially the owner, Firas - there's a difference when owners try to welcome newcomers for the sake of welcoming or genuinely keen to check if you're truly comfortable. Firas was the latter. And the sincerity continued time after time I frequent at Delucca.
Delucca has given me a different perspective of the Changkat scene, a different perspective of Italian cuisine. It has a unique concept, excellent food and wine variety and very unconventional choice of music. I bet some must've thought that I've probably been charmed by one of the good looking dudes at Delucca. I've been charmed by the entire place itself actually. It was later that I fell in love with the food. The chef was sweet enough to customize a pasta combo for me...to my liking. Am fussy that way, okay I confess - had a bad hair day and the chef made me happy. Delucca is like a relationship with a destined partner- you slowly discover more and more good side of the person.
Malaysians often say, "people from all walks of life". Let me spell it out. At Delucca, I walk in there like it's the Grammy's every night - red carpet treatment, people are dressed in style, well-spoken, well-cultured, well-travelled, witty, intellectual and fun. It's not just an Italian restaurant; it's also like a glamorous therapy outlet - you're bound to end your night filled with laughter and love.
As one of the significant night outs of 2012, I chose Delucca to spend New Year's Eve there with my favorite Ben and my best friend, Alison. In less than 2 months, I've frequent there almost….I-cant-even-remember times now.
In conclusion, my all-time favorite highly recommended Italian restaurant? Delucca has topped the chart.
