One of the Mole' previously favorite haunts, when the Lady said 'Japanese' there was no further thought required. Sugimoto here we come. One had not visited for some time but thought no more about it. Should have been alerted by the booking process, handled by a young lady with almost no English and even less Oriental Charm. But, on arrival got the decent window side banquette and a small smile. Downhill from there on in. The sashimi platter was 'ok' but Friday is fresh fish day and this certainly wasn't! The tepanyaki beef took forever to come and was utterly inedible - tough, stringy meat with gristle and fat smothered in a VERY odd gravy. Asked for his to be replaced with salmon which, again, took an age to come and arrived after last orders had been called - at 9.40for a 10.00 kitchen close. The salmon scraped a 5 out of 10 but the veggies were mainly cabbage and totally unappetizing. Very young staff bored and disinterested and no sign of any management whatsoever.. When One wandered over to ask about progress on food, it was made clear that I was interrupting a private conversation and how dare I?? Regular readers of my drivel will know that Mole goes out of his way to be even handed and fair. In this case, the evening had ABSOLUTELY NO SAVING GRACES WHATSOEVER and failed every test one can think of for style, hospitality, quality and value for money. Off the list, now and forever. Sorry.
