“Beautiful Location - nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2012

Stayed here during the Lantern Festival, Kunchi Matsuri and it was handy for the festival, as well as walking up Glover Hill and enjoying the beautiful view of the port from there. The hotel served the purpose for the two nights we were there, although it seemed a bit dated. The breakfast buffet was adequate, with a nice selection. We would recommend it. It's a short public tram ride from the main area, with shopping and the main train and bus terminals.

Not the best hotel we stayed in during our trip round Japan but well situated to nearby Glover Hill. Our room suffered from the bed being 30 cms from the wall on one side which meant gymnastics to get in and out without disturbance during the night. The staff, though were brilliant and helpful when we wanted to forward our luggage on to the next but one hotel. We ate in the hotel on both evenings - the first time because the rain was so heavy getting out was not possible. The French restaurant that doubled as a breakfast room was empty but the waitress was helpful and friendly. One of us went a la carte, the other the set 5 course meal. The latter was better value. Dinner in the Chinese restaurant on the second evening was OK but not exciting: crab soup, sweet and sour pork, chicken with cashew nuts all fairly standard. Breakfasts were adequate - English and Japanese available but not exciting. The omelette maker was absent the second day but the hordes descending at the same time were well regulated by the busy staff.

We stayed in 2 rooms on the Club floor, one with two twins and one with a queen. We were very happy with the plush towels, the lovely decor, and the extremely clean rooms.

Both brunch and the evening buffet were very good meals, and they bent over backwards in service to my non-Japanese speaking parents and to serve my children's favourite foods. The waiters were excellent, and the homemade ice cream was delectable.

The location of this hotel, by the harbour, beside Glover Gardens, and steps to the tramway, cannot be beat.

Room Tip: Request a room on the Club floor

Generally the hotel is quite ok; with comfortable, very-very clean and well equipped rooms.
The size of the rooms varies according to the price; all offer high speed cable Internet and LCD TV with only BBC International in English. (The rooms on the top "club floor" have been completely and nicely renovated).
The hotel location is not very central, but it is a tranquil one with good public transport access and walking distance from some of the main Nagasaki attractions.
All the staff is very prossional and helpful. The front desk staff speaks enough English to help you out with basic issues.
The breakfast, (06:00-10:00), on the second floor restaurant is decent, it offers all you would need for a good start of the day, but it is not impressive.

Other facilities include a bar in the lobby, an hair dresser shop, conference and wedding rooms and vending machines on each floor.

The hotel is not pretentious, now and then it is showing it's age, but it's definetly ok for a couple of days. In would not recommend this structure for a long stay

Perspective of American tourists visiting Nagasaki but comfortable traveling in Japan as we live in Okinawa. We spent two days (and nights), Hotel was friendly, desk had clerks with good English skills, and we really enjoyed the neighborhood and the streets that go up to the church and gardens above the hotel. My wife liked the little shops a bit too much on the street just above the hotel, like Glass Road. Very convenient location and only a short block from the Tram stop (Route 5). Tram all-day pass for 500 Y that you can purchase at the hotel desk was good value for us, though you need four segments to break even as the tram only costs 120 Y per ride. We took taxi from and to Train Station to hotel (900Y) as it would have been a hassle lugging a lot of dive gear (returning from Palau dive trip) on and off trams (you have to transfer from line 1 to line 5), up and down stairs, etc. It would have been easy with one small suitcase. Room itself was spotless, though I only gave hotel a 4 because the hallway carpets especially near elevator had a lot of traffic pattern type dirtiness to them. Room was very spacious by Japan standards, comfortable for my wife and myself and our 11 year old son. Good businessman’s hotel or base for family focused on being out and about all day, not really a hang-out hotel for a family as there is no pool, not really any rec facilities. Price was good value for a family--total cost was $150 per night US dollars. Beds were comfortable, large twin/small double size but comfortable for two sharing a bed so this could work for a family of four, vs. having to book two rooms. There probably are better values to be had for a single or couple, but for a family of three this is definitely highly recommended. Breakfast was not included, but we like very light breakfasts and the Family Mart immediately next door had everything we needed for a nice light cheap breakfast. Tip--Train Station is a good place to eat, several nice restaurants on 5th floor of attached department store.

I stayed here on a business trip for an international conference but travelled with my wife. While I worked, she did sightseeing and checked out the shopping.

The hotel is a little dated, but eminently comfortable. The rooms are a good size, with perhaps slightly small, but western-style bathrooms. We found the beds (very hard to get a double bed) comfortable and everything was kept very clean.

There is only one English language TV channel, BBC World Service, but you need to click on the "multilingual" button on the remote to stop the Japanese overdubbing. There is no wi-fi and the internet access is by cable (see Claude-George's review), though I didn't use it.

We only ate breakfast in the hotel, which was good, with Japanese and non-Japanese options. The bar (and the staff there) is very good, but be aware that the prices are typically not cheap by European standards.

The staff in the hotel are very helpful, though their level of English is not generally very high - but much better than my Japanese!

The best way to get about the city is by tram. The green line, No. 5, stops close to the hotel. The hotel is only one stop away from the terminus, so you will want to travel in the other direction (to the left, or towards the harbour, as you approach from the hotel). Travel 3 stops to Tsuki-Machi, where you need to change to the opposite platform and take the Blue No. 1 line - which will take you to the Peace Park and Atomic Bomb Museum.

A useful tip is get on the tram at the rear/middle door and pay on exiting at the front door by the driver. The single fare is 120 yen fixed price. The hotel should be able to sell you an all day ticket (not so sure though, as our organisation arranged free passes).

There are plenty of things to see - the A bomb site and museum obviously, but Glover Gardens is well worth visiting and there are options for travelling further afield by bus, air or boat.

Travel to and from the airport is 70 minutes by bus. Take a taxi to the airport bus terminal, which will cost only 700 yen, and the bus fare is 800 yen (1200 for 2 people). Compare this to the 12,000 yen for a taxi to the airport!
