“Perfect for the budget traveller”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

Four of us stayed in one of the Annex buildings. The rooms were clean and spacious by Japanese standards. (I have stayed in a lot of Japanese accomodation.) The location is easy to access on the tram network and in a pretty, quiet backstreet next to a small shrine. The owners lovely and very helpful. I gave it five stars, not for the facilities which were standard for the price range (albiet lovingly presented), but because the value was exceptional.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013 via mobile

The place is well accessed through the tram lines or as they call then in Japan 'street cars'. The attractions, such as the ropeway to the million dollar view, a-bomb museum, gardens etc are easily accessed through the same streetcars. The directions on their website are perfect to arrive to the place. The owners are great people, very friendly and respectful. They were also made sure to keep me company during when I was alone. The place has an authentic Japan feel. Cannot complain on anything, staying here was one of the nice memories of Japan that I will cherish when get back home. Thank you!

Went to Nagasaki by rental car.
Stayed in a HANARE room with a group of friends.
The place was very big and clean. We really had a great stay.
The staffs were very helpful and friendly.
Will definitely recommend friends there.

This is the best hostel I've stayed at in Japan so far! The staff were so lovely, and let us check in 3 hours early after catching a night bus from Hiroshima so we were able to catch up on some sleep.
The hostel was a beautiful, traditional Japanese house style and the facilties were great. Very clean too.
On our last night there, the lady dressed us up in kimono from her vast collection, it was so kind of her. Such a lovely, kind couple that run the hostel. Highly recommended!

A friendly couple run this little accommodation business in a Nagasaki suburb. All the facilities are clean and neat, and it’s a pleasant place to stay. The house has a comfortable communal room but there isn’t a kitchen; just a sink and hot water but no microwave or other cooking facilities, nor any plates or cutlery. But it does have laundry facilities. The full kimono experience is available as an extra attraction.

The hostel might look remote on the map but it’s just a five-minute walk from the end of a tram line, and with a day tram pass it’s a very convenient base for exploring the city. There is some traffic noise from a nearby busy road.

My friend and i took the japanese floor room for couple of days. We enjoyed so much with kind hosts who make their place clean and organized. It was comfortable as an old shoes.
There was shampoo, after shampoo, hair-dryer.

I strongly recomended this guest house for many many reasons.

Try antique Kimono(if you're lucky, or the owner is not busy you can put on beatiful japanese traditional cloth)

It cost you to take a cap 1,000yen from the nagasaki station or main bus terminal.

Take a breath, and stay in nagasaki kagamiya! You will see more than that what you expect!

I actually submitted to add this place to TripAdvisor when I was staying there in June as the very friendly couple that run this place did not know about it. I was looking for somewhere better than hostel Akari, and I found this place on Hostelworld so I used my daily tram pass to check it out. It is about a 5 minute walk from the end of the tram line in a quiet suburban area. The map on the website is much better now so no problem finding it if you use that.

The place really has a bit of a Minshuku feel except with western beds and low prices. They have fast wifi internet as well. During my stay I had the dorm room to myself as I think it was low season and they had only recently opened. There is no TV in the common area but any women would love it because you can rent Kimonos. There is a computer, much local info and maps and tea and coffee. There are restaurants open all night near the tram stop.

As I mentioned, the couple that run Kagamiya and very friendly, and when I left my universal power travel adapter attached to the wall after checking out, they mailed it to me at their own expense to my hostel in Fukuoka. I really cannot thank them enough for doing that. Nagasaki is a wonderful place, and I would not hesitate to stay at Kagamiya again, especially if I was a couple looking for an affordable and peaceful experience.
