The Cross hotel is a great place to stay in Osaka. It is only about a block from the Namba Station( 3 minute walk, exit 14, excellent directions from the staff by email), and is right in the midst of busy Dotonbori. I was surprised that they confirmed my reservations without asking for my credit card to hold the room, and they charged my card after we checked out.
My requirements and reviews of the hotels focus only on the rooms and location, I do not use any other facilities like fitness center or swimming pools etc since the main purpose of travel to Japan is sightseeing.
We booked 2 rooms since we are a family of 4 traveling around Japan, and the rooms are good sized, with complete toiletries ( Occitane shampoo, lotion, soap, as well as a Shiseido facial soap by the vanity). Japanese hotels include, razors, combs toothbrush, cotton pads and swabs etc as part of their toiletries. They also include bottled water in the room( a convenience especially after a long day of walking). We had a double bed ( ample space for 2) in the room, with bathrobe and slippers provided(another extra that is typical in a Japanese hotel). Free wifi included in room rate. We booked nonsmoking rooms and I emailed them ahead of time to make sure, as well as requested for adjoining rooms. We're in the comfort floor(nonsmoking floor). They had everything ready for us as requested.also had an air purifier in the room( not sure if this is part of the room or if they included this since I had emailed them regarding our aversion and adverse reaction to smoke). Not all the staff at reception speak fluent English ,but there was no problem with communication.
I booked directly from their website and their rate was reasonable compared to similar type hotels( especially on a Saturday night when most hotels are at full price). We just walked the area around the hotel and found a reasonably priced delicious Okonomiyaki place frequented by local Japanese close by called Izkaya ( this is just along the same street as the place with the big crab, located in the basement, and is right before a place selling Takoyaki on the street front).
The hotel location cannot be beat. On the other end is Shinsaibashi, which has all the high end shops, and right behind the hotel is a covered shopping arcade, with some food stands. We also tried a special cheesecake at a place called Pablos located a block behind the hotel, that sells rare( gooey soft cheesecake) and medium( softish center) cheescake that is absolutely delicious. There was a long line.
Despite being in the center of all activities, the rooms were quiet and we had a very restful night's sleep. This is the hotel to be if one likes the convenience of being at the center of action and night life.
