“Reasonable and convenient!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2012

I stayed there for two nights and I really relaxed. Their shared bath room reminds me a public bath where I used to go when I was a kid.

A room I stayed was very tiny but if you would like a budgeted accomodation, this is the one I can recommend. There are a table, a small fridge and an aircondition in a room.

The hotel is very close to a tube station and a convenience store. If you get a stamp on a receipt from the convenience store, you will get a 10% refund at the reception in the hotel.
There are many local casual restaurants as well and they are very reasonable.

The ladies floor will give a woman feeling of safety. Kichen includes a cooker and many different pans and bawls & plates. So, you can enjoy simple cooking if you can be bothered to do so with local ingredient.

Every night I enjoyed having bath in the big shared bath and sauna next to it. I will definitely stay there again if I go to Osaka.

Only down side is that toilet is very old fashion, therefore, some people might be put off.

I've stayed in Hotel Raizan South on both of my trips to Osaka with a friend (2007 and 2008). Its cheap, decent, near the trains, and we've also ridden our bikes from Shin-Imamiya into Shinsaibashi.
Loved that you can choose between western or japanese room layouts, the staff are friendly, theres PCs/internet, only one private shower but we always managed to use it when we needed to. no curfew either. I'd stay here again. People say the area isn't that good but I never felt unsafe!

I stayed here for about 1.5 weeks in May 2011 and thoroughly enjoyed it. The rooms are basic and clean with shared toilets on each floor and private showers & Japanese bath's on the ground floor. The manager is a great guy and very generous. Free wifi on each floor and in the foyer/lounge area. Also there were four (slowish) PC's in the lounge We met a number of random people while staying and had a good time hanging out with them.

The Shin-Imamiya JR station is 5 mins walk away. Shin-Sekai tower is about 15, Tennoji zoo about 10, and you definitely have to go for a walk down the Dobutsuenmai mall which is around 2 mins away. Request a Japanese style room as in most of Japan the futons are softer than the western beds and you can roll it up when you are done sleeping and get some space back.

I'm travelling back to Osaka in May this year and will only be staying here.

As a side note the best local place to eat is Okonomiyaki from Hideki at Chi-Tose restaurant, it's not far away but can be a little tricky to find the right alley. Hopefully a sign we left on the notice board in the lounge is still there or ask the manager for directions.

Room Tip: Request a Japanese room!

We went stay there in February 2011 for 7 nights. I must say for a very affordable rate, we enjoyed our stay there. We have free wifi, free use of their computer, free coffee. There is available microwave in every floor. There is no private bathroom and toilet for every room. But it is ok considering what we paid for. I am guessing that having hot water and heating toilet bowl must be expensive to be installed in every room. I really recommend this place. Just a corner for the convenience store, subway and train stations, walking distance to some tourist attraction. We seldom need to wait to use the toilet room and the shower room. The receptionist can speak English. We can have 1 bed or 2 beds per room. Rate is per head. I love this place, considering the weather that time is the beginning of spring. If you are on a tight budget, this is the good place to stay in Osaka.

Raizan South (not North - it has a different manager) is not at all posh but it's clean, the staff are helpful and friendly and thee are lots of freebies - wireless internet plus 4 of their own PCs for use; mens' and womens' sentos (japanese communal showers with hot bath/pool) with sauna; not always on, but the sento is open mornings and evenings. Free coffee in the morning. It's in not the most salubrious part of Osaka but pretty convenient for most parts of the City. If you want to lay your head down in security, no frils but nice atmos, this is fine. I just stayed 10 nights and it's my 3rd time at the Hotel. No en-suites is a bit of a pain but, for the money, it's great value.
There are japanese and western style rooms - small but manageable.

If you're looking for somekind of a safe down-and-out-experience in Japan you might want to stay at Raizan Minamikan. Otherwise it's a sound idea to throw in some 500 more yens a night and you'll get a lot nicer place to stay in. The rooms are small and reek like a mouldy asthray. In fact the whole building reeks; from the rooms to the unclean public bath.
The area itself is some kilometers south of the city's famed nightlife area, Dotombori and the access to transportation is very convenient. This, however, doesn't offset all the inconveniences caused by the general dingyness of the place.
Yes, the place is cheap and if you've done a lot of travelling in poor countries or just gone on a shoestring budget this place is a breeze. Otherwise It might be recommendable to throw some more yens into your accommodation budget on pamper yourself a bit.

Raizan south was decently clean, quiet and good location (2 min walk from the nearest subway).
Downside - Only one shower, but it has it's own communal bathhouse which was very good.. The hot baths in winter was very welcome!
The hotel is a bit old and dingy but not off-putting. Free Internet good for travellers.
Would recommend it as it's value for money.
