“Bring the camera! Its all happening!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

Heaps of people, but thats what you expect in a major city in Japan.Countless food choices with spruikers offering deals for some of the more out of the way (upstairs) restaurants. Everything from octopus balls to fugu and okonomayaki is on offer. All safe to eat and affordable.(We didnt try the fugu).
Majority of this area is under cover so it would be a good spot during wet weather.
Glico bridge corner on the Dotonbori River is a must see at night. Lots of illuminated signage. A great place to watch some of the locals "hang out".

“Fun part of the city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

Dotonbori is the classic part of the city to visit. It is full of lights, signs, sounds and smells. There isn't a whole lot of stuff to do, apart from eat and drink and have a good time. You can eat the crab legs at the beginning of the street, have kushikatsu, takoyaki, sushi and okonomiyaki and crawl back to your hotel with a stuffed belly.

“fun and lively”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

This area of Osaka is a lively place to find a meal. Because there is no "Dotonbori" subway station, you have to find it for yourself. Look for the street running parallel to, and south of, the canal, between the Daikoku and Chisu bridges. For a fun night out, if you are staying in Namba, take the subway to Shinsaibashi, walk south through the huge covered shopping streets, eat in Dotonbori, then walk back to your hotel.

“Daisuki Dotonbori! (I love Dotonbori!)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2013

Before traveling, I checked online for places to eat and go to in Osaka. Dotonburi was what everyone was raving about and now I understand why! It literally is the Takoyaki district (shout out to all the takoyaki fans out there!) Cheap food but GREAT food! Well there are some expensive restaurants which people seem to line up for even in the COLD COLD COLD weather. (It was 40F when I went there.) It's the Vegas of Japan! (Minus the gambling.) The lights are beautiful at night.

There are so many shops! I literally thought the road of shops would never end. And take note that there are a lot of roads full of shops! I, a shopaholic, couldn't get to all the roads! It was just too much!

I do recommend the takoyaki from the street stalls. And there is this one place with a sushi belt! For Y130 a plate (usually 2 pieces/plate) it was a deal! Plus, the sushi was so fresh and so good you would think it had to be more expensive! From the same sushi belt restaurant, you can order a sushi bento box to take home! Same fresh fish and great taste in a cute wood-like box! It ranges anywhere from Y600-Y1000+. I had the Y800 bento box one night and it was so good! Usually comes with 8-10pieces of sushi.

PS, If you're in the mood there's a 24hr karaoke bar! ;)
