“Lovely in November”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2013

The fall colors are lovely in the park surrounding the castle grounds (which you cross a moat to visit). Obviously, the exhibits inside of the castle will be more interesting to you if you know something of Japanese history - notably that of Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu (but of course this isn't necessary).

“Better than Tokyo's Imperial Palace”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2013

We can't help but to compare both visits. While Tokyo Imperial Palace was actually a huge garden with beautiful autumn leaves and visitors had no access to the anything resembling the palace, the Osaka Castle was magnificient. It was majestic from the outer boundary to the inner courtyards and when we paid JPY600 each to enter the 7 storey reconstructed castle, it was worth it. You get to learn from the exhibits and paintings the true story of the different era of Japanese history from there. My kids were most impressed with the usage of audio visual story telling when you move from one screen to another in sequence. There were like 30 screens I think. When you leave the castle, you can't help feeling why the Japanese have true fighting spirit and even a desire for world domination.

“Beautiful Scenary”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2013

If you are accessing Osaka Castle via the train station, be prepared to walk a bit. You will arrive at a park, before you reach the Castle. The scenary with the autumn leaves is beautiful. You can also pay a nominal fee of JPY 600 to enter the castle. there are 8 levels and you can choose to walk up the stairs or queue for the lift. Thereis an observation deck right at the top which provides a landscape of the city. There are also many artifects, some tapes that were screen to explain the hierachy and the history of the Osaka castle.

Most of the information were in Japanese, so we were not able to understand some of the information. Be prepared to spend the morning there, including a scenic garden walk back to the train station.

“Magnicifent castle”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2013

A very magestic castle although not as huge in comparison to other castles. It has a few moats and is flanked by the Osaka castle park.

Good way to enjoy the scenery. Castle itself is beautiful from afar, and good chances for photography at the grounds outside the castle.

However it is not wise to pay the admission fee to go inside. A tourist trap whole and whole.

4 stars for the sights and environment

“Beautiful surrounding”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2013

Came on a Sunday around 3pm.

People taking leisurely walks ,some with their dogs ,one with his eagle.

You read right-eagle.my son had a photo taken with them (the man and his eagle).

There was a school band competition going on that day and we see lots of different costumed bands practicing around the park.saw a few standing in front of solitary trees playing their trumpets ,trombone etc.i mean one to one,as if they are serenading them.

Break dancers, line dancers even a rock band were practicing on this day.

There is one particular street act that stood out.The juggling ,balancing act by this one guy.Amazing.

All that and we haven't got to the castle yet.

Small compared to the other castles such as Himeji but of no less significance.

Look at the history behind the castle, the way it was built and marvel at the ingenuity of the placement of passageway to the castle .you won't be disappointed.

The castle itself though rebuild with modern structures and amenities still look splendid.views from the top is another draw.covering north ,east .south .west sides.catch the sunset.

Half a day from 3 to 7pm we'll spent .
