The locale of New Hankyu is probably its main selling point. It's right next to the drop-off point for the airport limo bus from either Kansai (1 hour) or Itami (30mins). Plus there are many cheap and good eateries around the area. Large shopping malls like Hankyu, Lucua, Hep 5, Grand Front Osaka and Daimaru are just within 5-10mins walk. At the basement of the hotel is a linkway directly into Umeda Station where you can take the Midosuji subway line to Namba and Shinsaibashi. Osaka Station where you can take the railway to Kyoto or Nara for day trips is just across the road.

The hotel itself is adequate enough, the lobby is well-kept, the rooms a bit dated. I found the staff nice and attentive. I booked a standard twin room and yes, it is very small. There have been several feedback on the stuffiness of the rooms but as long you don't turn on the heater, it's alright. There is an air-con button located on the control panel at the bedside which I have no idea if it works although I just set it to high every night! But it's spring so the room even got a bit chilly in the wee hours of the morning.

I had to take a smoking room as all non-smoking rooms were sold out but other than an initial faint cigarette smell in the hallway when I first checked in, I couldn't really detect any strong smells inside the room itself.

I requested for a high floor room facing the street (facing Yodabashi Camera or Grand Front Osaka) and I didn't find it noisy at all and I got a view at least! The hotel isn't very tall, the highest being 10th or 11th. Several of the rooms were blocked by an office building right smack in the middle of the hotel. It's a little hard to describe but ask for a room facing the street if you prefer not to see the back of an office building outside of your window.

The breakfast buffet has a decent spread of western and Japanese items and the restaurant is big so you won't have a problem finding a seat. The staff are a little slow in clearing the used dishes of previous patrons though.

Just another tip, if you have signed up day tours with either Sunrise JTB or Club Yokoso, New Hankyu is within convenient walking distance to the two meeting points. Sunrise JTB tours leave from Hotel Granvia Osaka, about 7mins walk from Hankyu, and Club Yokoso tours meet at a carpark opposite Hankyu International hotel, about 8-10mins walk away.

We stayed 4 nights on our Honeymoon. After a rough start ( misplaced booking) we had to settle for a smoking room. The hotel had an air purifier and fabric spray sent right up to accommodate us. Quite a small room but very neat and very quiet. The Express Airport transfer is directly next door so easy Airport Transfer and located next to Umeda Train Station and subway/ metro access right next door. a convenience store right outside. Pleasant stay and convenient for transport.

It is strategically located and easily accessible to major transportation's in Osaka, especially if you came from the Kansai International Airport. The hotel staffs are nice, courteous, accommodating and friendly.

This hotel is centrally located in Osaka. Easy to get to anywhere you want to go in Osaka or to Kyoto. The rooms maybe fairly small but for the price of $140 a night well worth the slightly tight quarters. The hotel is located next to many department store and restaurants and bars. Yodobashi Umeda my most favorite department store is right across the street. Loft, Hanshin, and Hankyu Department stores all in walking distance. Also the airport bus is located right outside the lobby. The windows in the rooms may be unlocked to let in fresh air, just ask housekeeping. I recommend this hotel while on Osaka.

Stayed here for one night before catching a flight the next morning. Got a single room - okay size. Room was good and clean. Great location, in the centre of city and surrounded by so many restaurants and near the airport bus stop. Receptionist was a bit unfriendly when we checked in.

The hotel had a very long history so you can expect the room is not that modern and some area inside the room is a bit old. However, overall is clean, tidy and comfortable, so I don't have any complain about that.

I had stayed in semi-double room, the room size can fit two full size luggage open wide without any problem( you need to think creative to move their chairs around). However, if you are a "big" person, I think you better choice double room or other bigger option since the bed size is around 4 1/2 '. I had ordered a non smoking room and I don't recognise any unpleasant smell in and outside the room.

Location is prefect! The airport bus just stop at the entrance, very convenience! You are in the middle of the shopping area, all big department stores around you. GREAT! The hotel connected to the railway and subway station, so convenience that you cannot imagine.

The only thing need to concern is the wifi is very unstable. Sometimes you cannot connect to it. Even I am using their fix line, the problem still exist. Luckily I have a portable wifi machine so I don't relay on their wifi. However, this is something that they really need to look at.

Room Tip: Order a bigger room if you want more space.

First time visiting Japan and Osaka; stayed 3 nights at this hotel. the location next to Osaka main line station and the subway, and a direct bus from the airport are its real saving graces.
The hotel itself does have the feel of a business hotel, and is definitely short on amenities. there is also a pervading smell of cigarettes throughout this and many other Japanese hotels, but the no smoking rooms were okay. (It takes some getting used to that people can still light up in bars and restaurants etc).
The rooms are compact. I got the impression that if you were a business man looking for somewhere to crash then this would be great. But with a lack of space to move around, you can actually feel a little claustrophobic in a room this size if staying for extended periods. A small fridge is very handy for bringing own beverages in, and vending machines are everywhere.
The bathroom is small, but the shower was powerful. AND if its your first time in Japan get ready for the most sophisticated toilet seats you've ever sat on!
it doesn't help that in this hotel, as with many other Japanese hotels, every channel is in Japanese . Even BBC World New is dubbed!
We never used the bar or restaurant: no need with so many other good places on the doorstep. you can change money in the lobby using the automated machines - so that's convenient.
the rooms were also warm - AC was set to heat I think or nothing at all.
For food, recommend you go across the road to the electronics shopping plaza and eat on the 6th floor (I think). Definitely one of the things about the area that would bring me back.
and to go full circle, with the Japan Railways (JR) office across the road, this really helped for booked travel on the express and bullet trains.

Room Tip: Hard to say!
