“Regular (very good) Ritz Carlton”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

Spent a night here on business. Positives: Centrally located; plush standard Ritz Carlton interior; spacious, well-equiped rooms with great views; excellent service. Negatives: A little anonymous.. i.e could have been anywhere in the world; a little dated in parts. Overall, a good place to stay.

We stayed at the beginning of our Japan trip and will again at the end. The hotel is well located near Osaka Station (though the directions provided could be better!) and within walking distance of Nakanoshima. From welcome to departure staff were unfailingly pleasant and helpful. A good level of English is spoken. The rooms are a good size and extremely well equipped. We were upgraded and situated on the 37th floor with a magnificent view north over the railway station to the mountains. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: As high as possible

I had a brief but satisfying stay at the Ritz Osaka. I had a club floor room, which was very spacious- with a very comfortable bed , well appointed bathroom and a great view over Osaka. The club lounge had a very delicious breakfast spread, with Japanese breakfast options, great pastries and croissants, an omelette station, gourmet cheese and charcuterie, juices and espresso. The lounge also offered a nice happy hour with delicious savory and sweet snacks and drinks- enough even to forgo dinner, and a nightcap period as well with similar offerings. The large gym has a broad range of cardio and weights. The service is excellent throughout the hotel. In all, it is everything you would expect from a Ritz.

We had lovely stay in unexpectedly chilly Osaka for some late-April sakura action. The staff was courteous and earnest and went out of their way to be helpful.

The hotel is stately with heavy European influences in the rooms and lots of dark wood and chandeliers in the lobby. I fell head over heels in love with the high-tech Japanese toilet in the bathroom! That toilet seat does everything!

We enjoy walking and pack light, so the underground passageway to the JR Osaka station was enjoyable for us. By the time we'd reached the hotel, we were stuffed with Japanese snacks sourced along the 10-15 minute stroll. For those with lots of luggage, consider taking a taxi or airport limo as they can drop you closer to the hotel.

Room Tip: Even basic rooms are quite spacious for Japan!

From the moment we arrived at the Ritz in Osaka till we left, it was amazing. The staff was very attentive and service is just absolutely out of this world. Your needs were catered to in the most efficient and friendly way I have ever come across.
The hotel interior is magnificent in every way and again the staff were just absolutely marvelous.I will recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to experience the best a hotel can offer, definitely a must experience, close to some nice eateries and within a stones throw to train stations that gets you to all the major areas

This was our last night in Japan and the sheer luxury of the rooms with wonderful views ensured we ended our Japanese holiday in real style.
I don't think there was anything that could have made the rooms nicer and the service was impeccable.
I will stay here again next time

2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

My husband and I stayed in a club level superior twin for 3 nights in April, 2013. Staying in the club level of 5 star hotels for a few days has been one of the highlights of our Japan trips in the past. We love having nice cocktails and hors d'oeuvre in the afternoon. We tried the Ritz-Carlton, Osaka this year.

First of all, it's a longish walk (~10 minutes) from JR Osaka Station. If you're not familiar with the area, you'll get lost.

The lobby and public areas look nice enough, though it feels like an over decorated grandma's house. Our superior twin room was much smaller than standard "Ritz" size and the bathroom had only one sink. Room and furnitures are dated and tired and in need of renovation.

Ok, I can live with dated and tired room, but what really ticked me off was the food quality served in the club lounge. I frequent the Ritz in Tokyo where fresh top quality sea food (maguro, tai, shrimp, abalone, uni, etc) is regularly served in the club lounge. So I was expecting a somewhat similar affair in Osaka. I was shocked to see quiche, dim sum, soup, salad, cheese plates and cakes at their cocktail hour. I was expecting the "real foods" to show up, but none came.

To make matters worth, they served exactly the same things (except soup) the next day. We didn't even bother on the third day. They don't even have dessert wine at nightcap! Breakfast was decent, however.

The Osaka chefs need to go to Tokyo Ritz and study what they serve at their lounge.

All staff I encountered were pleasant enough, I don't have any complaints regarding service, except that they forgot to put my Ritz points in my account.

In summery: Location is so-so, hotel itself is getting tired and in need of renovation. Food in club lounge: Cocktail Hour and afternoon Tea are not good; breakfast is OK. Service is good.

Overall, I was very disappointed. We will never return. Good thing we only paid 40,000yen per night.

Oh, one more thing. They charged 600yen+/each for local phone calls. I've never paid more than ~100yen/call at any Japanese hotels, ever, and I've stayed in more than 100 hotels. This is the only hotel that ever ripped me off with the phone charge.
