My wife and I stayed at the Westin Osaka for five nights as part of a promo package with SPG points (5th night free), so I can’t really comment on the value of the hotel – although, I believe the going rate is about $250-300 USD for the room we had (king in corner suite, 18th floor).
Check-in was a breeze and a delight. The service was spot-on the entire stay.
By Japanese standards, the room we had was huge (60sqm). And, being a corner suite relatively high up, the view was tremendous. The king-sized bed was comfortable, the shower was powerful and the room, circa late-90s w/ pink carpets and lots of bathroom chrome, was very clean. I always appreciate things like complimentary slippers and bathrobes, but was surprised there wasn’t any complimentary bottled water or internet (I was able to get a fairly strong, albeit inconsistent, wireless signal from the room though). Breakfast isn’t included either.
I shouldn’t complain about the two TVs in the room because we never watched them – in fact, I always had the curtains open to admire the view – but I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen 27-inch tube TVs! It’s clear the hotel staff go to great lengths to upkeep the rooms, but even with their good efforts it’s evident the place is dated – the pink carpets are becoming worn and the furniture is getting up there in age. Still, the room is comfortable and did I mention the view?
The location is not great, but it’s not horrible either. Just don’t expect a huge array of places to eat, shop, etc. steps away. Beyond the Umeda Sky Building, a convenient store, an internet cafe and a few restaurants there isn’t much else around. The JR Osaka train station has a ton of places to eat and shop and is about a 15-minute brisk walk away. The Westin runs a shuttle to/from the station every 15 minutes and it’s always on time.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at the Westin Osaka, especially because of the size of the rooms, excellent service and phenomenal views. But, even at the low of $250 USD/night for king corner suite, I’d recommend shopping around for a more central, better value hotel.
