“Worst hotel so far on or trip”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2014 via mobile

Ok so the hotel is called superior on the outside but booking site says shin osaka hotel. Go figure!
A good 800m from the subway station (1 stop from shin osaka station)
Hotel is dated, built in 91.
Staff friendly but English poor, most of the markings in the hotel are in Japanese only.
Our room did have a great view of the city across the river and it's only a 5 min walk to the river bank. Great for a stroll at night.
The room itself was fairly small, worst thing was the aircon, didn't really work. We left a card (not room key) in the wall key holder to keep it on all day but housekeeping took it out and then took it away.
Spent half an our trying to communicate to staff what had happened.
Finally they tracked it down but not after they searched our room for it.
This was my Melbourne train pass that had credit on it so I wanted it back!.
I have to say the young guy on the desk did his best and should be commended.
This is a hotel for Japanese business travellers and I wouldn't recommend it for tourists.
Wifi was slow and the hotel smelled of smoke. Main lobby is the smokers hangout.

Close to cheaper beautiful hankyu kyoto line. Got to Kyoto from here for 390 yen. Car parking free. A little grubby but very cheap indeed. Little or no English. Room, roomier than my usual business hotel. Big Tv. Kind staff.

We stayed at Shin Osaka for three nights. If you are arriving at Shin Osaka train station, this hotel is just across the road from the East Gate so it is incredibly convenient. There is even a covered passageway which runs from the street to the back entrance of the hotel (very useful if it's raining). Our room was in sight of the bullet train tracks, and yet there was never a problem with noise.

The room was relatively spacious and comfortable, although there was some mould in the bathroom and stains on the duvet. The bathroom was quite small, and as the bath is quite deep it can be effort getting into the shower for shorter people. And the ceiling would be a problem for taller people.

A reasonable Japanese/Western buffet breakfast was included in the price, as was broadband internet. One rather peculiar thing was that there were brochures for Japanese porn TV, and when we flicked through the channels, at some point we got a 30 second or so "teaser" programme (with some parts pixillated out) which then disappeared from the channel selector ... until the next day. We observed at breakfast that the hotel seemed to be frequented mainly by Japanese business men and so they appear to be catering for this market. The programmes are available on a pay-for-view basis, so we are told ...

Most of all, a very convenient location if you are travelling by bullet train. Apart from the noted concerns, this is a hotel we would use again if travelling to Osaka.

Excellent location 5 min walk from Shin Osaka train station. Reasonably priced, room clean, staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was included, amazing light and fluffy sandwiches and a wide selection of food. Would recommend this hotel.

We booked into this place for 2 nights, a/c although on high wasnt cold enuf so we moved beds closer only to find a year's worth of crap and dirt under the beds, awful, bathroom and shower was a de-mountable, not so clean, small small toilet, no facilities, breakfast next morning for 800 yen was old and stale so we went to station for meals. Night staff were unhelpful when I asked about internet cafe and when I asked for english map said there were none available (husband reached over next to counter to locate an english map!).

  • Liked — Location right near Shin Osaka station - 1 min walk.
  • Disliked — Horrible, dirty, small, old, yuk, beware of stair to go up and down at East Exit esp with luggage - no lifts or escalators.
