“Great Location When Traveling By Train Or Bus”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2013

This hotel stands right next to the train and bus stations so is the perfect stopover when traveling by public transportation. The reception staff speak good English and are friendly and helpful. Construction work is currently going on day and night at the railroad station so I recommend requesting a room away from the station, which we did, to ensure a quiet stay.

Our clean, twin-bedded room, where we spent one night, looked like it had been remodeled recently with new carpeting and wallpaper. The lighting was excellent and the beds were comfortable. We got one English-language station (CNN) on the small TV. Slippers, bathrobes and a water boiler for tea/coffee were provided. The room included a small sofa and coffee table plus a desk area. Our bathroom proved to be rather small with a very low sink/counter area, but it presented no problems for us.

Though the hotel offers wired Internet, there is no wi-fi in the rooms. The hotel also fails to offer a business center.

This is definitely not a modern hotel but it has been maintained nicely and offers extras, such as a choice of restaurants. We ate dinner in the coffee shop, experienced major communication problems and considered the food mediocre at best. Breakfast did not come with our room, so we opted to eat at a Starbucks, about a 5-minute walk away.

The hotel is located in 1 minute walking distance from the Zenkoji exit from nagano station. The double room is considered big if compared to Tokyo. Equiped with all amenities that you need to stay overnight. Very quiet despite renovation at Nagano station.

However, the pillow was extremely soft. We requested for 2 extra pillow, yet it is still too low and soft to support our neck/head. Didnt really have a good sleep for the two nights there. The room does not come with wifi, and we have to go to lobby to do some surfing. With the price I paid, I shouldn't have complaint.

As my husband need to go Shiojiri for a factory visit, the front liner staff who is fluently speak in english, assisted us to get the direction from Shiojiri station to the factory. He even printed our a map and wrote a few japanese words on the printout, and asked us to show to the taxi driver when we reach Shiojiri. With his help, we in fact manage to tell the taxi driver where we wanted to head to when we reach Shiojiri station.

The booking through agoda does not come with any breakfast package, however, the hotel is near to alot of restaurants and it is not a problem to source for dinner/breakfast.

Centrally located near the main railway station. Spacious, clean and very quiet rooms in spite of the central location. Very quiet. Perfect service and good breakfast. Do not miss to walk through the various small streets near the station when looking for a restaurant in the evening. It is full of atmosphere especially when it is dark! We enjoyed very much staying there!

The hotel is right outside the Nagano main station, so location is convenient. It is probably one of the best in town. The usual "European" classic design for interiors makes it a classic for wedding parties and big receptions. Rooms are a bit shabby, but OK at the end of a long day. Breakfast is also fine, internet is free. Not much else to say.

Right out on station square in front of Nagano station's Zenkoji exit, the hotel is located perfectly for exploring Nagano and its environs. Buses to Zenkoji leave right outside and across the road, buses to Togakushi also leave in front of the Alpico office at West Plaza. The Nagaden train to Yudanaka, Shibu Onsen is right on the same square too. So transport connections are a breeze.

The deluxe double is plush and comfortable. Softest and most comfortable beds we had this whole trip. Wired LAN connections offered in the room, Wifi only in the lobby. No breakfast but this was not a problem since McDonalds was just outside the train station.

Located a couple of minutes walk from Nagano station this is a great base for exploring the Nagano area as the bus stops for the various trips are a few minutes walk away.

Even though it was near the station the hotel was quiet the whole stay with no traffic or guest noise discernible. The rooms we large and clean. This isn't a contemporary boutique hotel and has more of the feel of a grand travellers hotel. The bathrooms and we we large and separate, and there was a large seating area in the room.

For a comfortable, quiet stay near the station it is recommended.

We traveled to Nagano and stayed at the Metropolitan Hotel for two nights. The Metropolitan is a newer hotel operated by the Japan Rail Line. Consequently the hotel is well maintained and more to the North American model for larger hotels with bigger rooms and more modern fixtures etc. Its nothing spectacular but it is super clean, well maintained and the staff is very friendly and efficient. The hotel is situated in the central downtown area of Nagano next to the train station, which makes it very convenient for connections to the JR and other railway lines. It also puts you next to one of the main hubs for local Nagano bus transportation. There are many fast food type restaurants nearby which we found served excellent food. There is a very nice restaurant right in the hotel but it’s a bit on the pricey side.
We loved Nagano. It was our favorite Japanese City. It’s very clean and easy to navigate, the people are friendly and the climate is more moderate (cooler) than Tokyo as it is at higher elevation. We loved Nagano.
