Toyoko Inn is a large Japanese hotel chain of basic hotels. The rooms are small but adequate, very clean and adequately equipped. Very typical of Japanese high standard of hygiene, effectively efficient and very affordably priced. They provide free wifi though the reception quality varies from poor to excellent. Basic Japanese breakfast is included with free coffee! The locations are generally central and good. I have stayed in this and in four other cities and would recommend this chain for the value conscious traveller.

Room Tip: Chose a room away from the elevator.

There are several Toyoko inns in Kyoto city, none of them is close to Kyoto station. Toyoko Inn Kyoto Shijo-Karasuma is one of our favourite Toyoko inns.
We have stayed here several times . Last month , again, we stayed here .
Toyoko inn standard is very similar across Japan : clean, compact , efficient and no nonsense business hotel. Toyoko Inn Kyoto Shijo-Karasuma is no exception. In addition, English is never a problem here.
This is one of the most popular Toyoko inn in Kyoto. Rooms are normally booked out months in advance, especially during the koyo, and hanami seasons. Be sure to reserve early if you are staying here.
I think it’s location is the drawcard of its popularity. It is located in Kyoto’s busiest shopping street, Karasuma . Daimaru is just next door, Nishiki market is just minutes walk, shops are virtually everywhere . Restaurant ? You won’t go hungry in this neighbourhood. Bus stops are just in front of ,and across the hotel ; the subway station is minutes walk . This hotel is perfect for your base if you are visiting Kyoto. If you arrive more than 2, do not bother to get subway or bus, just take a taxi, will cost you ( under 1000 yens ) the same as your public transport fares.
We always have pleasant stay in Kyoto, will surely return here when we revisit Kyoto in the future.

This hotel is located at the corner of 2 main streets in Kyoto, Shijo and Karasuma. Very convenient location. It is technically a stone's throw away from the metro/subway station. Convenience store, drug store, post office and tons of restaurants are within walking distance. I had a twin room for 2 nights. Clean and basic. Everything worked in the room. Breakfast was served in the morning with choices of small salads, miso soup, onigiri (rice balls), tea and coffee. It was high season when I went so it was not easy to secure a non-smoking twin room. Plan ahead . I would recommend staying at this hotel and I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Join Toyoko inn membership so you can start reserving a room 6 months in advance.

I agree it is clean and in excellent location (metro few meters away, bus stop in front of doors, Nishiki market very close). But still we felt being squeezed into the room. The was no space where to put our suitcase,it stood unpacked for all 4 days stay as wardbrobe is of 4 hangers size. So we did not bother to unpack. It is clearly a budget hotel with a lot of locals staying in. Breakfast is included in the price( noodles, rice, miso). Very hard beds. Next time i would definately stay at Citadines for the same price but more spacious, double of the Toyoko inn size rooms. Location priority did not paid off.

Fantastic location, in fact just minutes away from subway station, numerous bus stations just at the doorstep, and 15 minutes train ride away from the Kyoto main station. Good value for money, albeit the room size, the room is very clean, with essential amenities. Guest service is great, there are coin operated washer/dryer available, and of course variety of vending machines at the lobby.

Will definitely return to this chain of hotels for my future Japan trips.

I must say that this hotel is very clean. Even better than some 5 star hotel. Very good location too. Room is quite small but all essential amenities are provided. The shower room water pressure is very good. The hotel have laundrette and the staff is very friendly too. Good choice of hotel.

I think this group of hotels is really underrated. This one had a fantastic location. Really central. the breakfast was pretty ordinary Japanese style. If you intend on getting out and seeing a lot of Kyoto chances are you won't be in the room for long anyway. The rooms are small but fine and we thought it was great value!
