“Good hotel near the station”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

The Keihan is really near the Kyoto JR Station, but there're some stairs until you reach the hotel. Really a pain if you got a big baggage.

The hotel room is clean and big enough for a couple, but there's no wireless internet, just a lan cable connector. Be aware of that if are bringing just your phone or tablet.

The staff tried to help us a lot besides the language barrier.

Hotel is connected to a major train station and it was easy getting to the hotel from the station. This hotel is also linked to a shopping mall and many restaurants nearby . Getting around was really easy. There is a bus station near the train station which has many buses that take us to most major Kyoto’s attractions.

Again, we were not allowed to check-in early but allowed us to leave our luggage with them at the lobby. Check-in and check-out was also a breeze, staff were polite and all smiles.

The room was slightly bigger than standard as we booked for a twin beds to have the extra space. It does make a huge difference compared to the space we had in the previous hotels in Tokyo and Osaka. The furniture look dated and show signs of wear and tear. However, it was a pleasant stay in this hotel.

Average sums up this hotel. It was just a room to stay in with nothing to distinguish itself from many other faceless hotels around the world. We were staying here as part of a group tour so can't really say if it was good value for money or not. It was however in quite a good location and was close to the train station, meaning that we had easy access to all the places we wanted to visit.

Don't get me wrong there wasn't anything bad about the hotel, the room and rest of the hotel in general were clean and tidy, the staff were courteous, but it just didn't set itself apart.

We have 5 people and the hotel has a 3 bed room is really good for us. 3 bed room and 2 bed room is the same size, but you still have enough space. The hotel is not newly opened, so the price becomes friendly. :) You can choose western style or Japanese style complimentary breakfast. We stayed 2 nights. 3 bedroom USD 145/night, 2 bedroom 115/night. Nice location and nice price!

Double Room, 1 King Bed, Non Smoking
The price of early bird is valueable.
And non smoking room is no odor.
So you don't have to open the windows.
The bed is super big for girls.
The space is suitable for two medium luggage.
The bath room is really new and clear.
it's near Kyoto Station.
Free Wi-Fi is a little bit slow.

The Japanese breakfast of Hotel Keihan Kyoto is really good.
Just like you are living in ryokan.

Overall, it's a really good Hotel.

This hotel is very close to the JR rail station and if you know where to go through the maze of passages you can get direct to the hotel lifts in the basement level of the Avanti shopping building. Just go through the tunnel into the Avanti basement level doors and then turn to the left past the various restaurants and you'll find the lifts (they operate in the basement until 22:00).

The rooms at the Keihan were the biggest of all the hotels we used in Japan and it wasn't particularly expensive. We didn't use the restaurant in the hotel but there are several restaurants at basement level including McDonalds and Subway if you're in need of some western fast food. The bus station is just on the far side of the JR station (through the passage under the station) so it's very convenient location for trains and buses. By bus it's easy to get to some of the more remote locations where the subway lines don't reach.

I would stay here again.

Room Tip: The higher rooms on the north side of the building (closest to the station) give you a good view of...

Great location opposite the East 8 exit, just walk cross the road and you get there! Please don't need use the underpass because it takes more long way and no lift! Superior double room has huge size bed and duvet that's no touble for 2 adults sharing . The beds occupied most of the space so the room seems a little bit crowd but its ok. The staff are very friendly and willing to help. The hotel is old but doesn't matter, I stay there again next time.
