“beautiful hotel in a beautiful place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013

Absolutely loved it. Great hotel, tastefully decorated rooms, great view of the garden from the restaurant. Wifi relatively cheap and very fast. Concierge was very helpful. Super comfy beds. The only points to note is breakfast - tried the buffet, tried the a la carte breakfast, and they were equally bad (but if you get a window table, the view at sunrise is amazing). Also, the staff could smile a bit more. But overall, a terrific property.

Room Tip: Cheaper rooms have better view than more expensive deluxe rooms.

Wifi is free for guests who book via the Hyatt website. They guarantee that they have the best rate so why use any other booking site?
This is a solid hotel with great service, lots of bowing and plenty of smiles. The rooms are very tastefully decorated too.
One thing I would recommend to the hotel is to charge guests who smoke in non-smoking rooms. At many hotels it is made clear that if ANY evidence of smoking is discovered in non-smoking rooms, a significant cleaning charge is made to the credit-card number in the room folio. The prospect of a $150 fine for smoking in the room is a disincentive to all but the rich or totally desperate. I am currently sitting in a non-smoker that smells of smoke. Gross. Housekeeping does its best to cleanse the room but tobacco smoke is so disgustingly pervasive that the room still reeks under the cleaning solution smells. A curse on the inconsiderate moron who was stupid enough to poison their body and rude enough to do it in a non-smoking room.

Anyway, if you're in Kyoto you should seriously consider the Hyatt. It's not in the middle of the central business district but it's an easy walk to many temples, and unless you have all day to waste taking buses you'll be getting cabs in Kyoto anyway. The breakfast buffet etc isn't cheap but this ain't the LaCucuracha Motor Inn in Newark, right?

This hotel is situated somewhat at the outskirts of Kyoto, but has plenty to offer. The hotel offers a free taxi from Kyoto Shinkansen station.
The lobby is large, bright, modern and luxurious. Staff at reception very professional and efficient
We took a garden room which was on the ground floor and looked out into the garden. Room was very spacious, modern, well equiped, very nice bathroom, spacious shower, very clean.
Excellent bed and very quiet room !
The breakast is taken in "the grill", being part of the immense lobby. Very friendly and professional staff. Breakfast more than excellent: complete and very good.
We also had a meal in the Italian restaurant on the first floor: excellent (real) Italian food at a reasonable price.
One minor point: lack of TV channels with english language, oldfashioned DVD system where you have to go and get your DVD at the reception desk; Not really a Hyatt system, we should think.
Although the hotel is not really in the center of the city, certainly to be recommended !

Room Tip: also eat at the hotel restaurants !

To be very brief, this hotel is simply a great choice when staying in Kyoto. Everything from the early check in (we arrived at 9h30) until the check out two days later went as you would expect from a Hyatt hotel.

The only thing that bothered us a bit is that you need to pay for wi-fi access in the room. Be it only a small amount but in a hotel like this one you would expect wi-fi to be complimentary.

After an tiring walk throughout Kyoto we booked for a (hot stone) massage at the Spa. A heavenly treat.

We arrived early and had lunch in the grill whilst waiting for our rooms. Pleasant lunch of burgers with a glass of red, just the thing to get ready for our afternoon adventures. Rooms were excellent and beds supremely comfortable. Bathrooms were great with a glassed wetroom. Lobby was lovely with all the fretted timberwork.
A little way out of town but just a short cab ride which was OK. Lovely bamboo gardens at the front of the hotel which was a nice touch.

We enjoyed our three nights at the Hyatt Regency very much. We also loved Kyoto! The decor was unusual but very striking, especially in the bedrooms. The hotel was comfortable and the staff polite and helpful, as of course they are throughout Japan. The hotel was a longish walk from the Gion area, and the centre of town, but it was an enjoyable walk along the river and only a short taxi ride. Of course it was the middle of the cherry blossom season so the whole of Kyoto was busy.
Our only gripe about the hotel is that we had to queue for breakfast. The Japanese breakfast restaurant downstairs (which ONLY offered a set Japanese menu) was almost empty, but there was a queue for the western one. It was a shame they couldn't compromise a bit. And the service at breakfast was slow. We also didn't particularly like the downstairs bar, again the service was quite slow and there was the ever present cigarette smoke! We never could quite come to terms with the fact that the fastidiously clean Japanese put up with smoking in bars and restaurants. All in all a good stay though.

Stayed here at the end of our holiday in Japan. This is a beautifully designed and practical hotel. Really comfortable bed with more than enough room for 2 people. Our standard room was spacious and came with a well-equipped bathroom with the separate shower/bath combination found in the better Japanese hotels. Service staff were excellent throughout. 5 minutes or less in a taxi and you are at the train station, shopping streets and many of the major temples and gardens. Would definitely stay here again.
