“have to be the best in kyoto”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2008

We booked 2 rooms at a really good price. Even if it's not the price, the hotel is fantastic. I would gladly pay more for it ;-).

First the room, stylish decor and nice bathroom. Not too big but size is alright, considering this is Japan, it's more than fine.

The location is perfect. It's not at the subway station but with bus stops of the major routes to visit the most popular temples. It's much easier to visit kyoto with buses as they stop closer to the temples than the trains. So, it's better to be close to the bus stops than to be at the train stations.

Service is of course impeccable. But we have experienced impeccable service for all the other hotels of this trip.

A must visit is the italian restaurant. The food was fantastic and real authentic. I don't see any japanese influence, other than the really good japanese beef! ^_^ They served bread with really fine olive oil and I requested for pesto sauce for my bread and they made it right the way for me without charging anything. The cheese was also great. And the dessert.

When the bill came, I couldn't believe my eyes. The total bill for 4 people and a kid is cheaper than what we pay in Hong Kong for 1!!! I really feel like going back to Kyoto just for this italian restaurant!!

We spent 2 days in Kyoto which were absolutely spectacular - the city itself is a gem, and we felt really privileged to get to see so much splendor.

The hotel did contribute to the perfection of our trip. It is an absolute ravishment for the eyes (the rooms have a wonderful Japanese/Scandinavian atmosphere, and really create inner peace ;- ), the staff and service was unparalleled and the food exceptional.

For particular reasons, we could not stay in a ryokkan (typical Japanese guest houses that are a must in Kyoto) but we were thrilled by this alternative.

The Hyatt is also very well located for visiting the city and some of its most spectacular temples on foot.

Probably the best hotel I've ever stayed at!

We stayed 5 nights at the Park Hyatt and we had conflicting feelings about this hotel compared to most of the other reviews. I would recommend this hotel but it's just very expensive compared to what you get.

Rooms
The rooms are rather small but I suppose big in terms of Japanese size. We booked a corner deluxe room which was long and narrow. We then requested to move to a bigger room but only stayed there for one night because the blinds don't block out all the light from outside, the room faced 2 busy roads and was really noisy and we were woken up at 6am by the bell in the temple nearby. We were then moved back to our original room but one floor down. This room was located on the 2nd
floor, right above the lobby, so from the bedroom you can hear footsteps on both the stairs and the lobby. Ironically, the first room
that we were given turned out to be the best. However, it would have been nice had staff informed us that the rooms facing the road on the 5th floor were more noisy.

Bed looked very nice and big but woke up with a backache every morning. Definitely not like the beds you would find iin a Hyatt n the
US.

Room Serivce
First, just it's a Hyatt in name but service and management is very Japanese. For example, room service is vastly different from that of a Hyatt in the US. The room service menu is very limited and if you request any food that is from their restaurant menu, they will charge you 20% on top for delivering to your room.

Dining
Some mornings at breakfast tin the Grill, they would charge our small children for breakfast and some mornings not. The only comment about the breakfast was it was identical every morning and it got very boring after 5 days. We dined mostly at the Trattoria Sette which was very good.

Cleanliness
I have to say, the Japanese are very very clean. The rooms were spotless.

Spa
We had 2 treatments at the Spa. It was average and the spa is in the basement and feels like it too.

Service
Typical Japanese no fault and efficient service.

Location
It's located right in front of the bus stop. Buses are incredibly efficient in Kyoto. Get a map and bus pass from the hotel concierge.

This hotel gets 20 stars on a scale of 1 - 5. The beds were so comfortable, the bathrooms will be my inspiration if we ever remodel, the staff went above and beyond, the concierge mailed our heavy purchases home for us, the food was great, they give you a laptop to use in the lobby (when you are the only one in your group awake at 5 am lol). It is an elegant hotel, great setting, great location, right across from the museum. Definitely prepay for the western breakfast and get your fuel for the day. I can't say enough about how wonderful this hotel was.

This is one of the nicest hotels I have been to. The staff was unbelievably friendly, the hotel was in a great location and the room was HUGE.

The hotel is in a great area right near many major temples and a ton of great food options. There is shopping, eating and sightseeing all within walking distance of this hotel.

The rooms were very large, I was shocked. The bath/shower is basically its own enclosed room that was amazingly large, The room was so nice I didn't want to leave. The room was all top notch beddings and furnishings and made the stay here great.

Staff was super professional and helped with any requests.

TIP

There is a place directly south of the Hyatt called "Manzu Hearts" it is an awesome, affordable and authentic restaurant. It is located about 4 shops before you cross a bridge to the other 'side' of Kyoto. Ask the concierge's about it and they will give you directions. Its a very small place with great priced beer and food. This restaraunt was affordable for the area and had that 'old japan' feel to it. It was a great place for a dinner for couples or a family.

We just returned from a two night stay. The hotel is beautifully designed - it looked as if it had just opened. There are beautiful small Japanese gardens in the outdoor spaces. The hotel is right next store the to the terrific Sanjusangendo temple and well situated for the excellent Kyoto bus system, which takes you to all the major sightseeing sites.

We booked a regular king room guestroom. You can see the decor from the photo. The bathroom was spacious and well thought out. The only complaint about the room was that it was rather darkly lit.

We had breakfast and dinner at the Grill and both meals were very good. We could not get into the Japanese bar Touzan on Saturday night, which was a bit aggravating since there seemed to be no other nice lounge area for a cocktail.

We would highly recommend this hotel to couples, singles visiting Kyoto. Families would be comfortable, but there are no special attractions for kids.
