We have spent two nights in a double room.

The good
- Staff very friendly and helpful
- Room was large (compare ok with Australian hotels) and clean
- Bathroom was fine, and bigger than expected. Good water pressure
- Bed was comfy, a bit hard though
- TV en Japanese language only (so you go out)
- Free and fast Internet
- Location: very close to Gion, subway, and main train station

The bad
- Light smell of cigarette, despite booking a non smoking room. Hashtray is provided
- Location: no many restaurants around.
- No second pillow

Nothing exciting about the hotel, but it does the job.

Was in Kyoto for peak weekend of leaf change (red leaves) and was lucky to get this room. Having said that, hotel rooms small, dated, stained and stale, terrible mattress. This is mostly, i think, a hotel for Japanese businessmen. Nice location one subway stop from Kyoto station. Easy to get around. Wouldn't pick this place if rooms were easier to come by. Staff was pleasant.

Our room was small and very overpriced - even for Japan. Staff were helpful, but not particularly so - nor friendly. Public bath was nicely adorned, but twice the water was not hot. It was a good location - 20 minute walk from train station. They have helpful maps.

For westeners this would not be the best choice. The staff is sweet and helpful but the hotel is bare bones for those that need a gentle intro to Japan.

I was the only westerner in the hotel during my stay and being the I was flying solo it made it more difficult.

The staff is wonderful and tried their best to help me. I think they were too embarrassed to speak English.

I will say the breakfast is the best bargin in Kyoto hands down. Dinner selection was limited and there are not many choices nearby. ( My tip: visit the restaurants on the south side ground level of the train station. There are some excellent and tasty values there. )

Also the hotel is a short walk from the station and the subway is on the corner.

Room Tip: In a pinch for a night it would work.

My wife and I spent 7 days here in early November. The rooms are large for the price and the hotel has a nice japanese bath on the top floor. The location is sousth of mych of the action but it is within a block of the major subway and bus lines so you can get anywhere. Staff was very helpful. I can highly recommend this hotel.
